Rosalind Eleazar captures the grief hidden beneath MI5 outcast Louisa Guy’s steely exterior with a subtle and restrained touch that reveals Louisa's grief in flickers. Her performance isn't overplayed; it's deeply felt, letting quiet glances and restrained gestures speak volumes about her character's inner turmoil in the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ spy thriller Slow Horses.
"She is one of the more grounded characters, but I do think her internal life is incredibly chaotic. She's a hard shell and it takes time for us to see glimpses of her," Eleazar tells Gold Derby. "I've had fun teasing her out over the seasons, and we get to know her better, more and more, but I think she's a loner. I don't think she has many friends. I think she has shut herself off to the potential of love or happiness in some way. Sometimes I think her groundedness is actually her protecting herself,...

Gary Oldman is clearly having a ball playing the gruff, ill-mannered and often underestimated Jackson Lamb in the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ spy thriller Slow Horses.
"We often laugh actually, while we're doing it. We crack up and then and do retakes," he tells Gold Derby. "It's been an extraordinary show to work on, not only because the material is very good and obviously the character is just a dream. But it's been really made all the more special because of the people working on the show. And that is really across the board from makeup, costume, Dp, camera operator, clapper loader, although they're not really clapper loaders anymore," he says. "I love regrouping after a break and then getting back and seeing everyone. The set is very easy to work on in that respect. Just an incredible bunch of people and that really has made it, I think, one of the highlights of my career.

One of the best movies in the repertoire of Jason Statham is all set to hit free streaming. The action star continues to fight the good fight for no-nonsense thrills, but 2021’s Wrath of Man is a little more complex than The Stath’s usual fare. The actor has become well-known for his particular set of skills, expertly throwing his fists, feet and bullets at anyone who dares cross his path, but his movies are often divisive among critics and audiences. Well, this action thriller finds the two groups in agreement: it’s great.
Directed by Guy Ritchie in his fourth collaboration with Jason Statham, and co-written by Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, and Marn Davies, Wrath of Man boasts an impressive supporting cast that includes Holt McCallany, Jeffrey Donovan, Chris Reilly, Josh Hartnett, Laz Alonso, Raúl Castillo, DeObia Oparei, Eddie Marsan, and Scott Eastwood. Back in 2019, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley circled back around to Generation Z. The show started airing on Channel 4 last October… and now, it has been confirmed that it will not get a second season.

Slow Horses season 6 gets a new update from Gary Oldman ahead of the release of season 5. Based on the books by Mick Herron, the hit Apple TV+ show premiered in 2022, quickly becoming one of the most acclaimed original titles from the streamer. Season 4 debuted in September of last year, following Oldman's Jackson Lamb, Jack Lowden's River Cartwright, and the rest of Slough House as they work to take down Hugo Weaving's Frank Harkness, and Slow Horses season 5 is expected to release this year, with season 6 also confirmed.
During a recent interview with Extra TV at the 2025 Golden Globes, Oldman reveals that filming on Slow Horses season 6 is already underway. “This is Adam Randall who directed season 4 and is directing season 6, which we're all going back to tomorrow," the actor said. Who doesn't enjoy watching a good actor absolutely chew through the scenery as a big baddie? That's at least part of the appeal of Hugo Weaving's diabolically evil character in Slow Horses. The acclaimed Australian actor first showed up in the Apple TV+ series in season four and changed the game for the at-times dysfunctional MI5 agents and it looks like his character, Frank Harkness, is going to return in the already-confirmed fifth season of the Gary Oldman-starring series.
While speaking at the International Film Festival of India in Goa, according to Variety, Weaving confirmed that Harkness will be back, explaining that he will head to London in January for a two and a half month shoot. Whether that includes an appearance in the also-confirmed sixth season remains to be seen.

Over the past few years, Apple TV+ has been attracting a host of A-list actors to their original shows, many of whom rarely work in TV. Apple TV+ has never had as many subscribers as other big streaming platforms, but it's consistently delivering some of the most entertaining shows on TV. One of its main strengths is that it consistently attaches big names to its shows, and these actors have elevated their shows.
Actors like Gary Oldman, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett are bona fide movie stars, but they have all starred in their own Apple TV+ shows. While this isn't exactly unheard of, it's remarkable that there are so many Apple TV+ shows with A-list stars. This is one way that the streaming platform has managed to differentiate itself from the competition, and it has produced some unforgettable performances.

The following contains major spoilers for Inspector Ellis Season 1, Episode 1, "Hanmore," now streaming on Acorn TV. It also contains discussion of violence and sexual assault.
Acorn TV's Inspector Ellis is the latest entry in British television's long list of crime dramas, and it will immediately grab viewers' attention because of who's in the title role. Sharon D Clarke is a powerhouse, with three Olivier Awards and a Tony Award nomination under her belt, to name just a small cross-section of her acclaim. It's kind of surprising that no one has cast her as the lead of a series like this yet, but her performance as Detective Chief Inspector Ellis is everything viewers could possibly ask for.
The rest of Inspector Ellis, though, doesn't rise up to Clarke's level. Series creators Paul Logue and Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre have crafted a show that is completely outshined by its lead actor. Season 1, Episode 1, "Hanmore,...

Step into the shoes of Dci Sharon D. Clarke as she takes on her newest role, Inspector Ellis. This police procedural drama follows Ellis, a detective chief inspector who lends her expertise to cases small-town police can’t crack. As an outside investigator parachuted in to assess troublesome situations, Ellis ruffles feathers. But her skills can’t be denied.
Bringing a quiet, focused intensity to each investigation, Ellis navigates not just mysteries but also the prejudices that come with being a black female officer. When prejudice shuts some doors, her perspicacity opens others. Through it all, Ellis’ allegiance remains firmly with justice.
In the opening episodes, Ellis finds herself assisting officers in a rural district where a swimming champion’s death and his girlfriend’s disappearance plunge a community into unease. As Ellis quietly yet doggedly examines this tangled case, she also probes the biases within the force she’s joined.

Acorn TV is about to welcome a new super sleuth to its roster of detectives - Inspector Ellis. Played by Broadway and West End legend and Doctor Who alum Sharon D Clarke, the tenacious cop is often tasked with coming onto flailing investigations across northern England and finding the answers her colleagues can't seem to crack. Accompanied throughout the three-part series by her right-hand man, Detective Sergeant Chet Harper (Andrew Gower), she's forced to overcome bias against her as a Black woman and ingratiate herself with local police departments to immerse herself in the complex murder and missing person cases she's assigned to solve. Yet, it's not always easy for her to make friends with her fellow detectives. Collider can exclusively share a sneak peek at the series that sees Clarke tangling with Slow Horses antagonist Chris Reilly.

When it first hit FX, practically everyone was under the impression that The Old Man was going to be a one-and-done prestige limited series. By the end of those first seven episodes, however, it had become clear that The Old Man was packing enough espionage chills and thrills to sustain at least one more season, if not a number of them. Whether it will eventually live up to the sterling reputation of some of the best CIA and spy-based television series remains to be seen.
Over the past few years, the espionage genre has seen an influx of memorable series, all of which deal with the CIA, FBI, MI5, assassins, terrorists, double-crosses, triple-crosses, and everything else in between in some combination or form. There are plenty of great series to watch next once fans finish Season 2 of The Old Man.

Per Apple TV+, Slow Horses has officially been renewed for Season 6. The sixth season will be based on Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh novels from Mick Herron's Slough Horse novel series that inspired the show. The renewal comes days after Season 4 wrapped up earlier this month, and it's very early, as Season 5 is not expected to arrive until sometime in 2025. But that information somewhat clashed with a scene of Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), the Slough House boss, who seemed indifferent to the news. It turns out that is because Lamb quickly suspects that River Cartwright faked his own death.
In an interview with Radio Times Maganize, Lowden opens up about River's fate inSlow Horses season 4 which is based on the Mick Herron novels. The actor, nominated for an Emmy for his role in the Apple TV+ spy dramedy, praises the storyline and indicates his own surprise at River's potential death.

Everyone knows Apple TV+ for Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, and Severance. There have been a few other popular TV shows sprinkled in over the last few years. Presumed Innocent starring Jake Gyllenhaal had some good buzz recently. Despite Apple TV+’s substantial investment into the TV business, it’s still looking for mainstream hits.
And, let me be clear. I am a fan of Apple TV+. I appreciate how many TV shows with huge stars the streamer is cranking out these days, but it’s just so odd that almost no one is talking about these great shows!
I put together a list of the four most underrated shows on Apple TV+ that you need to watch right now!

“We were actually filming Season 5 of ‘Slow Horses,’ so we were actually on set,” says director Saul Metzstein about the day that he and the cast and crew found out about the show’s nine Emmy nominations. For our recent webchat he adds, “News came in of various nominations and it was actually quite fun and it was very disruptive with exec producers wanting to call me and things like that and I’m like, ‘I’ve got one more shot to get!’ So there was some poetry involved in the fact that it was exactly at the same time as we were filming more of it.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

In “Hard Lessons”: River (Lowden) races to the Barbican Bridge and meets James “Spider” Webb (Freddie Fox), acting on behalf of the kidnappers who have threatened his family. Webb instructs River to steal the Prime Minister’s vetting file from MI5 headquarters before midday or Standish (Saskia Reeves) will be killed. At the Park, River evades Nick Duffy (Chris Reilly), the head of the Dogs, and gradually works his way into the records department after stealing a security pass from another Dog, Hobbs (Chris Coghill). “It’s the best of both worlds,” declares “Slow Horses” star Jack Lowden. For our recent webchat he adds, “It has this super intrigue and sexiness of the world of espionage that’s never boring to look at, but it also has the workplace element, with a dreadful boss and a terrible working environment that I imagine most people around the world can relate to at some point in their lives. It’s that mashup that’s so fantastic, and that’s actually what Mick Herron, the author of the novel said that he wanted to do a workplace drama thriller,” he explains, adding with a grin that “he chose espionage because nobody knows anything about espionage, so nobody can tell him if he just makes stuff up.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“We had a lot of fun in Istanbul because it was the opening of the season” declares Oscar-nominated cinematographer Danny Cohen (“The King’s Speech”) about the acclaimed third season of the Apple TV+ spy drama “Slow Horses.” It opens in the Turkish city, but then soon finds itself back in the decidedly unglamorous Slough House, the MI5 office reserved for the outcasts and misfits of the British intelligence agency. For our recent webchat he adds with a smile, “you instantly have the idea to sell the audience a complete red herring that they’re going on some sort of ‘James Bond’ travelogue. See the world, travel the globe, beaches, interesting cities, and then to use that as a hook to then drag everybody back to the well-worn interiors of Slough House.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Jericho Ridge
A dark, freezing night. A lonely sheriff’s station. Incidents elsewhere taking the other officers way, and just one woman, nursing a broken leg, left to hold the fort. Unfortunately for her, there’s something inside the station that some very bad people want to get their hands on, and she’s in the way. Survival thriller Jericho Ridge is opening in UK cinemas on Thursday, and it’s going to deliver some serious action.
In March, when it screened at the Glasgow Film Festival, I met up with director Will Gilbey and star Chris Reilly to discuss it, but we all knew from the start that it would be a challenging interview. There’s very little we could actually say about the story without giving things away. It was a few dramatic twists and turns, but there’s very little embellishment. It is, I suggest, a simple story,...

"Backups on the way, we just have to hold out 'till they arrive! Okay?" The Movie Partnership in the UK has debuted an official UK trailer for an indie thriller titled Jericho Ridge, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker / editor Will Gilbey. This first premiered at the 2023 Galway Film Fleadh in Ireland last year, and opens in UK cinemas this April, with no US date confirmed just yet. Trapped and without backup, a small town cop fights for her life when her remote Sheriff's Office is targeted by a group of murderous attackers. Isolated and outgunned, mother and son will have to do whatever it takes to survive. The director explains how intense this survival thriller is aiming to be: "I want the audience to feel wrung out when they leave the cinema, as if it's only safe to take a breath when the closing credits start rolling." Maybe we should all aspire to be as calm as Ingrid (Sophie Okonedo) is in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the Slow Horses Season 3 finale, dropping on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, December 27. The First Desk (the Director-General of MI5) was the one to issue the kill order for anyone who knew about that file that could presumably prove that Sean Donovan (Sope Dirisu) was right that MI5 killed someone he loved for leaking classified intel, and now, Diana (Kristin Scott Thomas) can’t help but remark about the fact that she hasn’t heard from Duffy (Chris Reilly). “He’ll call when he’s contained the situation,” Ingrid says, but Diana corrects that with exactly what she’s set in motion: “You mean when he’s murdered fellow agents at your bidding.” Since they’re talking about Slow Horses, to Ingrid, they’re “mercy killings, putting ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Slow Horses Season 3 Episode 4 “Uninvited Guest.”] River (Jack Lowden) is about to regret saying yes to Ingrid (Sophie Okonedo) on Slow Horses. The First Desk (the Director-General of MI5) enlists him to take Sean Donovan (Sope Dirisu) to a facility to see files he’s so sure will prove that MI5 killed someone he loved for leaking classified intel in exchange for handing over Standish (Saskia Reeves), whom he and his team kidnapped. But then Ingrid tells Duffy (Chris Reilly) that anyone who went inside cannot make it out, given what Sean is really there to see. That means River and Louisa (Rosalind Eleazar). TV Insider spoke with Lowden about River’s Season 3 so far, including that one-man heist he tried to pull off, what’s going on with his grandfather (Jonathan Pryce), and what’s next. Let’s start with River’s attempt to pull off that heist at...

Slow Horses is finally back with a whole new season filled with espionage, institutional failure, corruption, dark jokes, and deadly farts. The Apple TV+ series recently came out with its much anticipated third season and once again it revolves around the MI5 failures who are occupying Slough House. In the new season, we see a member of the Slow Horses getting kidnapped and how the rest of the team fights with everything they have to get them back.
As always Slow Horses isn’t your typical spy thriller because its characters and stories are as far from James Bond as they could be, and in my opinion, that’s what made Slow Horses one of the best espionage thriller ever made.

It was previously revealed that new episodes would air beginning December 1, 2023, so we're getting them two days earlier.
Apple TV+ has been experimenting with rolling out shows earlier in the week, and it worked very well for Ted Lasso Season 3, so we're inclined to believe this will be a good thing for this hit drama series.
We also got our first look at Slow Horses Season 3 today, with Apple TV+ sharing the official trailer.

When Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves) is kidnapped by rogue MI5 agents, it’s up to her fellow Slow Horse agents to save her in the first trailer for Season 3 of “Slow Horses.”
Apple TV+ released the preview on Tuesday for the British spy show, which returns with the first two episodes of Season 3 on Nov. 29. A new episode premieres every Wednesday through Dec. 27.
“I need a team of good agents, but I just have the Slow Horses,” laments slovenly senior agent Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), who never misses a chance to crack wise, even when lives are on the line.
Later in the clip, River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) calls from a besieged warehouse to tell Lamb, “There are men outside with guns. Some backup might be handy.”
Lamb’s nonchalant reply, “Well, I’m busy.”
Responds a frustrated Cartwright, “Ok, thanks, I’m sure the situation will resolve itself.”

Four years ago, it was announced that Ben Wheatley would be writing, directing, and executive producing Generation Z, a “hilarious, frightening, and political” series that would consist of six hour-long episodes that would “mix flesh-eating zombies into a story that satirizes how Brexit has divided the UK.” That project didn’t make it into production when it was originally supposed to because of the pandemic shutdown… but after making his latest film Meg 2: The Trench (you can read our review at This Link and check out our interview with the filmmaker Here), Wheatley has circled back around to Generation Z and is now knee-deep into filming it! To celebrate the fact that Generation Z is finally being made, Channel 4 has unveiled a batch of first look images, and you can check those out at the bottom of this article.
