12 Years Later and We Still Miss These 10 Things About ’30 Rock’
Image
30 Rock remains a masterpiece in workplace comedies, and Tina Fey isn’t often appreciated enough for creating the show. The former head writer of NBC’s SNL brought her real-life experiences to the show, where her character Liz Lemon is the head writer of the series Tgs with Tracy Jordan. It was a fun-filled take on the corporate structure of NBC.

While it did not enjoy the ratings success of other similar workplace sitcoms like The Office or Parks and Recreation, it was nominated for a total of 103 Emmys. Fey used her signature surreal humor to bring to life the world of television that she knew and prospered in.

She has to put up with Alec Baldwin’s network boss Jack Donaghy, Tracy Morgan’s unpredictable actor Tracy Jordan, and Jane Krakowski’s narcissistic actress Jenna Maroney. The show ran from 2006 to 2013, and the cast came together for a...

12 Times Actors Appeared On A Show Despite Being Established In-Universe
Image
Celebrity paradoxes in TV shows can be distracting and break the fabric of the show's universe, potentially creating plot holes and inconsistencies. Even the greatest TV shows are not exempt from this phenomenon, as established celebrities are often unrecognized when they later appear as a separate character. Examples of celebrity paradoxes include Carrie Fisher in 30 Rock, P Diddy in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Bruce Willis in Friends, where their previous works and references to them were made, but they were not recognized within the show.

There are countless examples of actors being established as existing within a TV show's narrative, only for the stars to later join the series' cast as a separate character. Television shows have indulged in this type of celebrity paradox for decades, with examples continuing to grow as a celebrity's presence becomes narratively illogical. Not only do the appearances of established celebrities as...

Eve Brandstein
Solaris Entertainment is developing a documentary about groundbreaking comedy writer Anne Beatts, her former business partner Eve Brandstein and Solaris managing partner Michael Bloom announced exclusively to TheWrap on Friday.

Beatts, who died in 2021, was the first woman to write for “Saturday Night Live” and helped pave the way for more women to enter the comedy field, Brandstein, who co-directed and produced the 2022 John Lennon documentary “The Lost Weekend: A Love Story,” said.

Brandstein and Beatts first worked together on the beloved 1982 series “Square Pegs” starring Sarah Jessica Parker. “[Anne] came from New York and the whole ‘SNL’ scene. I was a little in awe of her comedy credentials at that point,” Brandstein said. She teamed again with Beatts on “Just Say Julie,” starring “Earth Girls Are Easy” writer Julie Brown.

You can’t outrun the past, especially if it’s dead-set on infiltrating your present.

‘Resurrection’ Trailer: Rebecca Hall Freaks Out in the Wild Thriller That Shook Sundance
Image
This year’s Sundance Film Festival was heavy on genre fare, with plenty of horror flicks and thrillers dominating the lineup and winning some of its biggest awards. A common theme was bold filmmakers elevating once-pulpy genres into high art, and Andrew Semans is no exception. His latest film, “Resurrection,” earned strong reviews for taking a premise that has been explored in countless generic thrillers and turning it into something truly unique.

“Resurrection” tells the story of a woman (played by Rebecca Hall) who finds her normal existence disrupted when a man from her past suddenly reemerges in her life. As the dark details of their past relationship begin to emerge, her life starts to unravel in ways she never could have expected.

While that description could apply to any number of basic cable thrillers, the film won critics over by gradually devolving into something much more unhinged that needs...

11 Non-‘Star Wars’ Roles You Probably Didn’t Know Carrie Fisher Played (Photos)
Kevin Dillon, Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Connolly, and Jerry Ferrara in Entourage (2004)
“Entourage”

Carrie Fisher had a role as Anna Fowler on “Entourage” in 2010 on the episode titled “Tequila and Coke.”

“Family Guy”

Fisher voiced the character of Mon Mothma on a “Family Guy” Star Wars parody special in 2010.

“Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle”

Fisher wasn’t just a badass on “Star Wars,” she played one on “Charlie’s Angels” too–kind of. She played the role of Mother Superior, a nun at a monastery.

“Scream 3”

Carrie Fisher‘s versatility knows no bounds. She played the role of Bianca in the horror film “Scream 3” in 2000.

“Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”

We might be seeing a pattern with the whole nun thing. Fisher played one in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” in 2001.

“30 Rock”

Fisher also made a cameo on “30 Rock” as Rosemary Howard in the episode titled “Rosemary’s Baby” in 2007. She played a writer who was Pete’s idol.

Olivia DeJonge and Geetanjali Thapa in Stray Dolls (2019)
Geetanjali Thapa & Olivia DeJonge in Crime Film 'Stray Dolls' Trailer
Olivia DeJonge and Geetanjali Thapa in Stray Dolls (2019)
"If we're doing this, we have to do it right." Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted a trailer for a crime thriller titled Stray Dolls, the feature directorial debut of Indian-American filmmaker Sonejuhi Sinha. This first premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year (also called Love Comes Later) and it played at the Seattle, Montana, and San Diego Asian Film Festivals. Leaving India behind to break with a life of petty crime, Riz arrives stateside and gets a housekeeping job at a motel. There she meets Dallas, her new roommate. At first antagonistic, the girls soon realize their opposite personalities complement each other in this film where "one petty crime spirals into the next." Starring Geetanjali Thapa & Olivia DeJonge as Riz and Dallas, the "stray dolls", plus Cynthia Nixon, Robert Aramayo, Samrat Chakrabarti, Rosemary Howard. Maybe there's some good performances, but the rest of the film looks pretty rough. Not much to see in here.

Tina Fey Remembers Carrie Fisher's "Honest Writing" and "Razor-Sharp Wit"
Tina Fey
Meeting your childhood idol can sometimes be a disappointment. But when Tina Fey met Carrie Fisher, it was a dream come true. Ironically, Fisher played Rosemary Howard, Liz Lemon's wacky childhood idol in the second season of NBC's 30 Rock. And while she didn't help Liz get her movie screenwriting career off the ground, she did help her realize her full potential as head writer of the sketch variety series Tgs with Tracy Jordan. Critics and viewers lauded Fisher's guest-starring role in Season 2. The actress received her first-ever Emmy nomination for the appearance, but lost to Desperate Housewives' Kathryn Joosten. One year after Fisher's guest appearance on 30 Rock, Fey made a...

Tina Fey Remembers Carrie Fisher's Honesty and 'Razor-Sharp Wit' in Heartfelt Statement
Carrie Fisher
Following Carrie Fisher's death on Tuesday, many of her famous friends and former co-stars have paid tribute to the iconic Star Wars actress, including comedian Tina Fey, who said that Fisher played a big role in her life.

"Carrie Fisher meant a lot to me," Fey said in a statement to Time Magazine. "Like many women my age, Princess Leia occupies about sixty percent of my brain at any given time. But Carrie’s honest writing and her razor-sharp wit were an even greater gift."

Fey acted alongside Fisher on the second season of 30 Rock, in the episode "Rosemary's Baby," in which Fey's character, Liz Lemon, meets her childhood hero, TV writer Rosemary Howard, played brilliantly by Fisher. Her hero worship sours, however, when Rosemary turns out to be somewhat bonkers.

The beloved episode earned Fisher her very first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress...
