On Thursday Don’t Look Up filmmaker Adam McKay appeared at the virtual town hall of a grassroots group attempting to help organize a general strike, encouraging participants to “shut down this broken, befouled economy.”
McKay joined a town hall for the “General Strike 4 Resignations” group alongside Chris Smalls, the co-founder and former president of the Amazon Labor Union and one of the subjects of the 2024 documentary Union, which McKay executive produced.
The idea of a general strike — however realistic or unrealistic — has gained momentum in select activist and labor circles in the last few years as a means of changing the status quo in the U.S. The general idea is that if enough working people, unionized or not, withhold their labor across the country, they can establish enough leverage to change policy.

The Eye of the World is a near-perfect beginning to The Wheel of Time series. The second book in author Robert Jordan's series, The Great Hunt, isn't as fast-paced as its predecessor, but it still moves well, especially the last 100 pages.
The Great Hunt begins to flesh out important characters merely introduced in the first book. This includes Elayne, a princess trainging to be an Aes Sedai; and Min, a mysterious young woman who sees flashes of people's futures. Both become main characters throughout the series, and it feels like it starts here.
Readers also meet more Aes Sedai sorceresses and get our first look into the White Tower, where they are trained. In The Eye of the World, the only Aes Sedai present are Moiraine and (very briefly) Elaida. Right away in the second book, the leader of the Aes Sedai, the Amyrlin Seat, makes an unexpected visit...

The Democratic National Convention kicked off with a heavy dose of star power on Monday, with everyone from Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr to former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaking in support of Vice President Kamala Harris. But no one worked the crowd into more of a frenzy than Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-n.Y.).
“I’m here tonight because America has before us a rare and precious opportunity,” she said. “In Kamala Harris, we have a chance to elect a president who is for the middle class because she is from the middle class.

The Teamsters have yet to endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, but the powerful union’s president sent a strong message by delivering a speech at the Republican National Convention on Monday. Sean O’Brien delivered an impassioned address about how big business and corporate lobbying groups are “waging a war against American workers” to a room full of people who worship Donald Trump — who wants to lower the corporate tax rate to 15 percent.
O’Brien’s turn at the RNC was not appreciated by everyone at the Teamsters. The...

Padan Fain may replace a key book villain, setting up a darker, more twisted path in Wheel of Time season 3. Perrin's arc in season 3 risks villain overload with Fain, Slayer, and Bornhald, potentially overcrowding the storyline. Fain's possible transformation into the Slayer could intensify his rivalry with Perrin, creating a formidable enemy dynamic.
A theory on The Wheel of Time season 3's story postulates that Padan Fain will take the place of a major book villain. While there are some noteworthy differences, Johann Myers' take on the evil Darkfriend is quite similar to his book counterpart, especially when it comes to his loyalties and sinister nature. However, there's a chance the character's path is about to deviate from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books in a significant way.

The White House has released some early excerpt of President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address tonight, in which he says that he will restore “Roe v. Wade as the law of the land again.”
“In its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade the Supreme Court majority wrote ‘Women are not without electoral or political power,'” Biden plans to say, according to prepared remarks. “No kidding. Clearly those bragging about overturning Roe v. Wade have no clue about the power of women in America. But they found out when reproductive freedom was on the ballot and won in 2022, 2023, and they will find out again in 2024. If Americans send me a Congress that supports the right to choose I promise you: I will restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land again.”
The president also plans to remind viewers oand listeners where the country was when he entered the White House.

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain and former President Donald Trump have gone to war with each other.
Fain stated in an interview he gave on Face the Nation explaining why the union endorsed Joe Biden over Trump.
“Look, when you look at these two candidates, you know, Joe Biden has a history of serving others, and serving the working class, and fighting for the working class, standing with the working class,” the Uaw president stated. “Donald Trump has a history of serving himself and standing for the billionaire class. Ingtar's death in the show suggests that he may have been a secret Darkfriend, which aligns with his character arc in the books. The exclusion of Ingtar's betrayal in the TV adaptation removes a key element of his heroic sacrifice. Ingtar's potential redemption and desire to die a hero align with his personal journey in The Wheel of Time books.
Ingtar's death in The Wheel of Time was a departure from the books, but a key scene from earlier in the scene indicates it may be more accurate than it initially appeared. In Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time books, Lord Ingtar Shinowa sacrificed himself in an act of redemption. His TV counterpart also met his end saving his friends, but the meaning of this decision was changed considerably - or at least, that was the impression given by The Wheel of Time season 2 finale.

The Wheel of Time season 2 has excluded seven book characters from appearing in future seasons, indicating that they are unlikely to be part of the show's continuity. Characters such as Hurin, Aginor, Balthamel, Ragan, Basel Gill, Someshta, and Dena are among those unlikely to make a debut in the TV series based on the expected story of season 3 and the events of season 2. The show has made changes and adaptations to the source material, opting to remove certain characters and storylines to focus on the main plot and major characters from the books.

A supporter at Donald Trump’s rally in Michigan wildly waved his sign “auto workers for Trump” last month.
But the supporter raised questions when he later told the Detroit News that he was not, in fact, an auto worker.
The former president delivered a speech at Drake Enterprises, a parts supplier in Clinton Township, Detroit, in which he spoke about the concerns over electric vehicles.
Trump’s attendance came in response to the United Auto Workers’ continued strike against Ford, General Motors and Stellantis.
Trump told the rally attendees: “You can be loyal to American labor or you can be loyal to the environmental lunatics.”
A journalist from the Detroit News asked another of the crowd members with a “Union Workers for Trump” placard about his involvement in the rally.

The second season finale of The Wheel of Time achieved a lot with the plot, and it proved to be very exciting!
The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 8 finally saw all of our main characters make it to Falme and also fight their way through the town.
Also, an unexpected ally launched a full-out assault on the Seanchan.
The White Cloaks have always been a strange, menacing force in the series since we first got introduced to them on The Wheel of Time Season 1 Episode 2.
We don't know much about them other than that they hate anyone who channels the One Power (part of the reason for their attack on the Seanchan).
Even though our heroes are not fans of the White Cloaks (and neither are we), their attack against the Seanchan managed to help in some cases.

Appearing in Michigan at a non-union auto parts manufacturer, former President Donald Trump blasted what he called “blood sucking globalists” attempting to “assassinate” the auto industry, and compared Joe Biden to a “wretched old vulture trying to finish off his prey.”
Backed by four American flags, Trump spoke to the factory crowd in a bar-room bluster. He hectored Uaw strikers, insisting, “I don’t think you’re picketing for the right thing.” And he argued that the Uaw should “endorse Trump” because, “if they don’t all they’re doing is committing suicide.

Ingtar's defense of Padan Fain suggests that he may have hidden motivations or guilt for his actions, similar to the book version where he betrayed the group but later tried to atone. While Ingtar's fate is uncertain, the show has previously deviated from the books, so there is a possibility that he may survive and have a longer redemption arc.

Rand’s ending in The Wheel of Time season 1 finale sets up five more changes to his original story. So far, Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s books has taken a number of twists and turns that separate it from the source material. Arguably one of its most consequential deviations from Jordan’s novels is how it ended things with Rand.
In The Eye of the World, Rand discovered his ability to channel the One Power and succeeded in defeating Ishamael. His journey resumed in the second book, which picked off where The Eye of the World left off with the characters in Fal Dara. The TV version of the story, on the other hand, saw Rand convince Moiraine to allow the others to think he’s dead while he goes off alone. By taking such a surprising direction with Rand, the series has effectively set up even more changes occurring when season 2 begins.

The TV version of the story, on the other hand, saw Rand convince Moiraine to allow the others to think he’s dead while he goes off alone. By taking such a surprising direction with Rand, the series has effectively set up even more changes occurring when season 2 begins.
