Silviu Prigoana started investing massively in mass media in 2001, when he founded Realitatea TV. In 2003, it launched TV Sport, followed by Etno TV and Taraf TV.

Throughout his life, Silviu Prigoana experienced several tragic events that affected his health. One of the most important accidents was the one in 1984, when, at only 22 years old, while working as a refrigeration technician in a factory in Gherla, he suffered a serious accident that severed his leg . After three surgeries, doctors had to amputate him because of the gangrene that had set in.
