Dominique Dawson
San Francisco native, Dominique Dawson is a multidisciplinary creative. She began her journey in the theatre, where she honed her storytelling abilities. For her undergraduate, Dominique attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Directing Program. Her bold creative voice and fearlessness have always attracted her to daring scripts that tackle more progressive themes. While at NYU Dominique Directed plays such as Madheart by Amiri Baraka, The Conduct of Life by Maria Irene Fornes, and J.E. Franklin's Black Girl. Upon graduation in 2006 she went on to Direct the play Blurring Shine by New Dramatist fellow Zakiyyah Alexander in the NYC Fringe Festival. As the Assistant Director/Costume Designer to Director Andre Royo on the Hip-Hop Theatre Festival's production of In The Last Car Dominique embraced her range of creative abilities. Her affinity for avant-garde visual storytelling landed her in the NYC fashion editorial world as a Wardrobe Stylist, where she expanded her understanding of design and elevated her creative aesthetic. After Costume Designing her first film Security written by Israel Horovitz starring Chris Messina, Dominique moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in Film & TV. Now based in Los Angeles she is known for her work as a Costume Designer on ABC Digital's American Koko produced by Viola Davis' JuVee Productions. In 2016 she Costume Designed Director Rosie Haber's short film Ink starring Isabelle Fuhrman and Forrest Goodluck, in part with the AFI Conservatory Directing Workshop for Women. She worked with Diarra Kilpatrick on her pilot The Climb, an Amazon, Directed By Chris Robinson. In 2018 she Costume Designed a short film entitled X Written and Directed by Yara Shahidi for TNT & Refinary29. When asked to join the costume team for The Last Black Man of San Francisco she jumped at the opportunity to represent her home town authentically on screen. Dominique enjoyed costume designing Season 2 of Jerry Bruckheimer's La's Finest starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba on Fox. More recently she was able to collaborate with Ava Duvernay on the Netflix series Colin In Black and White, chronicling the young life of Colin Kaepernick. She also worked with Ava and Ernest Dickerson designing Roberto Patino's Dmz, the graphic novel brought to life on HBO through Array with Rosario Dawson. In 2022 she was Nominated for an Emmy on Donald Gloves show for Amazon Swarm starring Dominique Fishback. Dominique is proud to have been able to join the team on Origin, Ava Duvernay's new feature film; which was shot across three countries. However it is her new feature film Him being produced by Universal Studios and Jordan Peele's Monkey Paw Production Company that she is thrilled to share in 2025. Her last series Chad Powers starred Glen Powell produced by Eli Manning and Hulu. In January she will begin working on the remake of The Burbs starring Keke Palmer for Peacock.
