Jake Dunn Is Fiercely Protective of BBC Trans Drama ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl’
Image
“Whenever I work, I’m like, ‘This will be the last time you do that,'” Jake Dunn laughs. “I just can’t believe it.”

His candid disbelief is no surprise when the Nottingham-born star, fresh out of drama school, went straight into filming a Sally Wainwright show. Dunn might be best known to viewers as Thomas in Renegade Nell, Disney+‘s fantasy adventure penned by the Happy Valley creator, which was canceled after one season last year.

“It does give you an understanding,” Dunn continues, “of when something is fizzing and exciting versus when something maybe doesn’t have that same impact on first read.” The 25-year-old would know better than a lot of people — he’s also worked on Jack Rook’s Big Boys, Nick Hamm’s historical epic William Tell and now turns to the BBC Three’s millennial coming-of-age drama based on the memoir by transgender journalist Paris Lees.

Creators of ‘Adolescence’ and ‘Squid Game’ Reveal Behind-the-Scenes Secrets at Produced By Conference
Image
To make “Adolescence” come to life, producers of the smash Netflix drama had to find a way to make the camera fly and to corral 300 middle school students through filming a fire drill in order to maintain the integrity of the show’s one-take format.

Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, co-creators and executive producers of the four-episode U.K. drama thriller that has become one of Netflix’s most-watched series, offered details of how it came together on Saturday during the opening session of Produced By, the annual conference hosted by the Producers Guild of America.

Graham, who co-stars in “Adolescence,” said one key to pulling off the tricky production process was to have worked collaboratively with the leaders of the school where much of the series was lensed.

“We empowered the local community and brought them on the journey,” Graham told the crowd that gathered on the Universal lot for the daylong event.

Liev Schreiber, Stephen Graham and Zazie Beetz will star in an upcoming serial killer drama from Apple TV+
Stephen Graham
Stephen Graham isn’t done dealing with murder. The creator and star of the hit Netflix series Adolescence will be returning to the small screen in a drama about a serial killer with Liev Schreiber and Zazie Beetz, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is yet to be titled, but it is said to be based on a series of best-selling crime novels by Lars Kepler. Kepler’s novels include titles like The Spider, The Mirror Man, Lazarus, The Rabbit Hunter, Stalker, The Sandman, The Fire Witness, The Nightmare and The Hypnotist.

Lars Kepler is the pen name of the married couple Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril, and the series will reportedly be based on the Joona Linna series. However, it will be switching the Swedish location to the U.S. The description for the series reads, “Jonah Lynn (Schreiber), an ex-soldier turned homicide detective, tired of working the tough streets of Philadelphia,...

Stephen Graham Reveals the On-Set Surprise That Made Him Cry for Real Filming Adolescence
Image
Adolescence was one of the most talked-about shows of this year. It follows the family and classmates of a schoolboy who is arrested for murdering a female classmate, and it was so well-done it sparked all sorts of discussion about "incel" culture and male radicalization.

A big part of the show's success can be owed to Stephen Graham, who co-created the series and also played Eddie, the difficult father of Jamie the teenage murderer. The scene at the very end of the series, where he tucks his son's teddy bear into bed and cries, was an especially affecting scene for many. And it wasn't all just acting - Graham was crying for real.

Every episode of Adolescence was shot in just one take, and the take used for the final episode was what Graham described to Variety as a "freedom take." To his surprise, it turned out to be the...

How ‘Adolescence’ Turned A Story Of Teen Violence Into A Political Call To Action
Image
Since Adolescence premiered in March, Netflix’s breakout TV hit of the year has reverberated through homes, schools and political discussions around the world.

At the time of this interview, co-creator Jack Thorne has just visited 10 Downing Street — the home of U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer — to discuss both the limited series’ outsized impact on the public consciousness, and what can be done to help solve the societal ills it examined.

Starmer has recently taken the rare step of pronouncing his love for a Netflix show and simultaneously making it part of the nationwide school curriculum, deeming it vital viewing for all young people. However, others, such as Elon Musk, and Starmer’s opposite number, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch, have spread an unfounded conspiracy theory about its main character. Predictably, the media has been in overdrive.

Away from Adolescence being used as a political football, the show, produced...

Why Netflix’s ‘Adolescence’ Had a ‘No Dicks’ Policy
Image
The golden rule to treat others as you would like to be treated doesn’t always hold true in life. But it was a necessity on “Adolescence.” The demands of shooting episode-length single takes require weeks of rehearsal and the kind of intuitive, balletic coordination we normally only see on sports fields – and unlike on a lot of sports teams and film sets, co-creator, executive producer, and star Stephen Graham was in a position to make sure there were no dicks on the team.

To its absolute credit, the Netflix miniseries is a meditation on the fallout after a 13-year-old boy (Owen Cooper) murders one of his female classmates (Emilia Holliday) rather than a whodunit or a breathlessly titillating true-crime rehash of the violent event. Speaking to IndieWire on an episode of the Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, Graham said that the idea to interrogate how incel culture online leads to violence...

Netflix's 'Adolescence' Beats Out Prime Video's 'Reacher' for Nielsen Top Spot
Image
Netflix’s Adolescence has been an eye-opener for many, and many more are tuning in to watch this brilliant series created by Jack Thorne and actor Stephen Graham, and directed by Philip Barantini. The series starring young actor Owen Cooper has trumped Alan Ritchson’s action series Reacher to grab the top spot in Nielsen’s charts.

Adolescence racked up 1.44B in its first full week on the streamer with its watch time increasing 59% over its debut weekend. Interestingly, the adult demographic of 35-64 makes up 56% of the audience of the series. Which further cements its impact on adults and young viewers alike. In contrast, Reacher slipped to fourth place on the overall charts with 1.13B minutes viewed. Though it’s the only other streaming original in the Top 5 along with Adolescence.

Standing between the two are Shonda Rhimes’ new series The Residence at the second spot with 1.36B minutes viewed.

¿Habrá una temporada 2 de ‘Adolescencia’?
Image

'Adolescence' Is One of the Top 3 Most Popular Netflix Shows of All Time
Image
Five weeks since it first hit Netflix, Adolescenceis still drawing more viewers and crushing more milestones. The acclaimed limited miniseries from Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham remains on the platform's global English Top 10 Shows list, though it has since given up the #1 spot to the hot docuseries Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing, which just barely surpassed it with 9.8 million views compared to 9.7 million. The fall to #2 hasn't slowed its rise on the all-time charts, though, as it has now topped 124 million views and moved into third place among all English-language shows, behind just Stranger Things Season 4 and Wednesday. It's just the latest major feat for the breakout success, which tackles the negative influence of incel culture and manosphere influencers on young men.

Although it was never meant to live beyond its four-episode run, the overwhelming response to the show has shifted the perspective of both Netflix and the series creators.

'Adolescence' Season 2 Is Now a Real Possibility at Netflix
Image
Although it was initially billed as a limited series, Adolescencemay be eyeing a second season. During an interview with Deadline, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, the co-presidents of Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment production banner, revealed that there have been discussions about potentially expanding the hit drama following its explosive success on Netflix last month. While they couldn't share what plans for an expansion they had already discussed with director Philip Barantini, they said their hope was to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive" while also reuniting co-creator and star Stephen Graham and writer Jack Thorne. It would almost certainly tell an entirely different story from Season 1's tale of 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper).

Seeking another season for Adolescence isn't surprising considering just how well it's performed over a lengthy period on streaming. Released back on March 13, the heartbreaking drama recently became the...

Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company is in early talks to develop a second season of Adolescence
Image
Netflix has big hit on their hands with the provocative limited series drama Adolescence. The show was designed to be a one-and-done with this story; however, the popularity of the series has moved its way up Netflix’s list by taking the #4 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Shows of All Time with more than 114 million views. The show has overtaken The Queen’s Gambit, Bridgerton seasons 1 & 3, The Night Agent, and Stranger Things season 3. Naturally, the company would want to capitalize on the success, but is there room for more story?

Deadline reports that Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, is in talks to develop a new season of Adolescence for the streamer. Plan B co-presidents Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner told the publication that they are discussing possibilities with director Philip Barantini about the “next iteration” of the show. Adolescence rockets up Netflix’s Top 10 list, overtaking Bridgerton, Stranger Things & more
Image
Adolescence is Netflix’s latest sensation and has been rocketing up the streaming service’s Top 10 list since its debut last month. The limited series is currently occupying the #4 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular Shows of All Time with more than 114 million views. The show has overtaken The Queen’s Gambit, Bridgerton seasons 1 & 3, The Night Agent, and Stranger Things season 3.

With Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story at #3 with 115.6 million views, Adolescence could soon overtake that show as well. The series tells the story of a 13-year-old who is accused of the murder of a classmate, leaving his family, therapist, and the detective in charge to ask what really happened. Each of its four episodes was shot in one continuous take, a truly impressive feat of filmmaking.

Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
‘Adolescence’ Has Now Passed All ‘Bridgerton’ Seasons on Netflix’s Top 10 All-Time Rankings
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
Adolescence just went through a huge growth spurt.

Last week, the U.K. limited-series drama jumped from No. 9 on Netflix’s Most Popular English TV list to No. 4, the streamer revealed on Tuesday. It leapfrogged over seasons one and three of Bridgerton, fellow limited series The Queen’s Gambit and Fool Me Once, and season one of The Night Agent.

Adolescence debuted less than a month ago and already has more than 114 million views, Netflix says. Of that total, 17.8 million happened last week, making Adolescence No. 1 yet again, besting Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer and and the streamer’s medical-procedural experiment Pulse in their respective debut weeks.

One cool note that is incrementally helping shift internal records around: Adolescence has been made available to stream in secondary schools across the U.K.

Adolescence star and creator Stephen Graham discusses potential second season
Image
Adolescence is brutal to watch, and it never relents. The story of a 13-year-old boy, Jamie, accused of killing his classmate, Katie, has become a global megahit. But what that says about us as a society might not be good.

The series is riveting, and we watch even when we do not want to. Did Jamie kill Katie, and if so, why? He might have done it for many reasons, but consistently says he did not. His father, Eddie (played by series co-creator Stephen Graham), does not want to believe his son would do something so awful, but what parent would?

One thing seemed sure, however. The ending of the series was final, and there couldn't possibly be a second season. Or so it appeared.

Could there be a second season of Adolescence on Netflix?

Graham and co-producer and real-life wife Hannah Walters recently spoke with Variety about the potential...

‘Adolescence’ Producer Warp Films Adapting Apocalyptic 1984 Feature ‘Threads’ Into TV Drama
Image
Warp Films, the U.K. production banner that recently scored a hit with Netflix drama “Adolescence,” has acquired the option to develop 1984 film “Threads” into a TV drama.

Renowned for its groundbreaking portrayal of a fictional apocalypse, “Threads” — which was nominated for 7 BAFTA awards, winning 4 — offers a harrowing depiction of life in nuclear war-era Britain, set in the city of Sheffield (where Warp is based). The new adaptation will, according to the filmmakers, explore prescient issues through “rich, character-driven” storytelling.

“Threads was, and remains, an unflinchingly honest drama that imagines the devastating effects of nuclear conflict on ordinary people,” said Mark Herbert, founder and chief executive officer at Warp Films. “This story aligns perfectly with our ethos of telling powerful, grounded narratives that deeply connect with audiences. Reimagining this classic film as a TV drama gives us a unique opportunity to explore its modern relevance.”

Decades after “Threads” was first released,...

The globally acclaimed Netflix drama Adolescence is set to become a key part of the U.K. curriculum. In a move that’s igniting conversation across the U.K., the British government launched an initiative to make the series available to all secondary schools. It certainly marks a bold step in how society confronts the dark realities facing today’s youth.

Known for its raw, unfiltered portrayal of knife crime, toxic masculinity, and the perilous influence of online content, the four-part series has gripped audiences worldwide. Now, it’s set to become essential viewing for secondary school students.

‘Adolescence’ Available to Stream in All U.K. Secondary Schools in Initiative Backed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer: We Must ‘Tackle the Issues This Groundbreaking Show Raises’
Image
“Adolescence” is set to be made available to all high schools across the U.K. in an initiative that comes with backing from the British government.

The smash hit Netflix drama — which has already provoked widespread debate for tackling the subjects of knife crime, toxic masculinity and the danger of online content on children — will now be made available alongside guides and resources for teachers, parents and carers to help them navigate the conversations that are raised.

The announcement follows a roundtable discussion held by Prime Minister Keir Starmer alongside representatives from charities such as Tender, the Nspcc, and The Children’s Society, as well as “Adolescence” co-creator Jack Thorne and producers Emily Feller and Jo Johnson. Thorne had already advocated for the show to be shown in schools.

“As a father, watching this show with my teenage son and daughter, I can tell you — it hit home hard,” said Starmer.

‘Adolescence’ Writer Jack Thorne Rejects ‘Absurd’ Race-Swap Theory Amplified by Elon Musk: ‘We’re Not Making a Point About Race’ but ‘About Masculinity’
Image
Jack Thorne — who co-wrote Netflix phenomenon “Adolescence” with Stephen Graham — has rejected claims that the show was based on a real-life crime committed by a Black child, a theory that had been amplified by Elon Musk on social media.

The four-part drama, directed by Philip Barantini and starring Graham, Ashley Walters and Erin Doherty, revolves around the brutal murder of a young girl by a 13-year-old schoolboy (played by Owen Cooper).

Since it’s release, its creators have insisted that story was inspired by incidents around the U.K., but not based on an individual crime. Yet a post on X asserted that “Adolescence” was based on a “real-life case such as the Southport murderer” and that, in making the perpetrator white, it amounted to “anti-white propaganda.” Musk, in his usual style, didn’t overtly agree with the accusation but promoted it to a far wider audience by commenting, “Wow.

Could Adolescence stir up more trouble for a season 2?
Image
The new powerful and provocative Netflix series Adolescence has a lot of eyes on it for the right reasons. Stephen Graham, who co-created the show, and his producing partner and wife, Hannah Walters, are pleased to hear the positive reactions the four-episode, one-shot show is getting. Adolescence touches on a sensitive subject of a young boy who is suspected of murdering a classmate. The series has been collecting accolades for exploring the tough topic through a sophisticated lens and not an exploitative one for the sake of entertainment. There’s even talk about the series being shown in schools for awareness. Variety spoke with both Graham and Walters as their series opened Globally with a massive 24.3 million views in its first four days. It would then climb to 66.3 million after two weeks, which is a new Netflix record for a limited series. Although it is initially conceived as a one-and-done shot,...

Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters have kicked off the new year on a high, and honestly, it’s not difficult to see why. The power couple, known for their on-screen chemistry and dynamic work behind the scenes, are riding the wave of success with their latest project, Adolescence.

The Netflix miniseries hasn’t just shattered viewership records with over 66 million views in two weeks but also sparked conversations that Graham and co-creator Jack Thorne had hoped would resonate far beyond the screen.

Adolescence season 2 | Stephen Graham says there’s a “possibility” for another season, Jack Thorne rules it out
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
There seems to be a bit of confusion whether or not the team behind Netflix’s smash hit Adolescence are planning season 2. More on that below.

Adolescence has proven to be a huge hit for Netflix, smashing records left, right and centre for the streaming service. It’s also one of the best TV shows we’ve seen this year and are likely to see for the rest of 2025.

Naturally, everyone is keen to hear whether or not there will be an Adolescence season 2. The series was imagined as a one-off limited series, but the success of it must have Netflix wondering if there’s another story to produce.

Earlier this week, Jack Thorne, who wrote the series with star Stephen Graham, ruled the possibility out, especially a story focusing on Katie, the victim of a horrendous crime. Thorne explained that they were finished telling Jamie’s story and there was nothing more to explore.

Adolescence Team Talks Season 2 Possibilities After Netflix Success
Image
Following the success of Adolescence, executive producers Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters opened up about the possibility of doing another season of Netflix’s newest crime drama series. In the show, Graham portrays the role of Eddie Miller, the father of a 13-year-old boy who has been accused of murdering his female classmate.

Netflix’s Adolescence was originally developed as a limited drama. However, this may possibly change due to the show’s ongoing critical and streaming success. Speaking with Variety, when asked if the streamer had already reached out to them for a potential second season, Graham and Walters confirmed that nothing is really official, but admitted that they’re indeed considering the possibility of working on another story for Adolescence Season 2. "Possibly, let’s see how the figures are," Graham said with a smirk. "But yeah, there’s the possibility of developing another story." However, Walters also acknowledged...

Netflix Hit 'Adolescence' Gets Promising Season 2 Update From Creator
Image
Since its debut on Netflix on March 13, Adolescence has been the talk of social media thanks to its timely subject matter and unique filming structure. Now, creator Stephen Graham and his wife/producing partner, Hannah Walters, are addressing the possibility of a Season 2 following the massive success of the four-episode mini series.

While the show clearly told a self-contained story, Graham mentioned to Variety that there is a chance we could see Adolescence Season 2 down the line. "Let's see how the figures are," he said. "But yeah, there's the possibility of developing another story." To be clear, nothing has been confirmed by Netflix regarding the future of Adolescence, but Walters did mention she would work "all day long" with them again if given the chance so that she could help bring to light more tales about "human nature."

"A prequel to Adolescence, that's certainly not going to happen. But there's...

“There’s So Much Mileage”: Stephen Graham Teases the Potential for ‘Adolescence’ Season 2
Image
Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters are having a terrific start to the new year. The married couple, who often work alongside one another as actors and also as producing partners, are unsurprisingly thrilled that their latest series, Adolescence, has blown the roof off of Netflix. Not only are its viewership numbers continuing to soar, breaking records along the way, but the production did what Graham and his co-creator and writer Jack Thorne were hoping — forcing folks to get serious about a difficult conversation. Now that most of the world has already binged the four-part miniseries, one question is on the top of everyone’s mind — will there be a second season? The term “miniseries” says it all, as the production was meant to hit audiences hard with its short run and have that be the end of the harrowing story. But, with its massive success, the chance for a continuation is out there.

‘Adolescence’ Duo Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters on the ‘Possibility’ of Season 2, ‘Overwhelming’ Global Response and What’s Next for Their Company
Image
Shortly before “Adolescence” launched on Netflix, Stephen Graham turned to Hannah Walters, his wife, producing partner and regular on-screen co-star and said: “Oh God, love, I haven’t got a job!”

She was quick to console him.

“I think you’re gonna be alright — but don’t worry, have a bit of time off.”

Neither Graham nor Walters had any idea what sort of reaction “Adolescence” — the four-part drama they co-produced that tells the gut-wrenching story of a British family whose world is turned upside down when their outwardly normal 13-year-old son is arrested for the murder of a girl in his class — would generate. Written by Jack Thorne and Graham (who also stars as the boy’s distraught father) and directed by Philip Barantini, the show came with the added creative quirk of having had each episode shot in one continuous take. It wasn’t your average crime series.

It’s pure drama with superb performances from the cast. In particular, Stephen Graham plays the boy's father with Owen Cooper making an astoundingly accomplished acting debut as the son. Adolescence (2025) Miniseries Recap & Ending Explained: What Does Jamie Decide to Plead at His Trial?
Stephen Graham
The ambition of the Jack Throne and Stephen Graham-penned miniseries, “Adolescence” (2025) is astronomical in that they want to dredge in the muddy waters of understanding and exploring the psychology of children and teenagers susceptible to the social media generation and how that affects the actions and general behavior of these teenagers, leading not just to these kids lashing out in ways impossible to return from but also alienating them further from their parents.

An understandably touchy and rocky subject matter is aided by Philip Barantini’s signature calling card—the one-take sequence—that provides not just an added sense of tactility but also immersion in the overall experience.

Adolescence (2025) Miniseries Episode 1 Recap:

‘Adolescence’ Trailer: Stephen Graham Reckons with His Accused Murderer Son in One-Shot Limited Series
Image
Stephen Graham is continuing his one-shot TV prowess with filmmaker Philip Barantini — except this time, it’s for the small screen.

Graham reunites with his “Boiling Point” director Philip Barantini for yet another story told in one continuous shot. While “Boiling Point” was a BAFTA and BIFA-nominated feature, Graham and Barantini turn instead to four-part Netflix limited series “Adolescence” to film in real time.

“Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” alum Graham plays a father whose 13-year-old son (Owen Cooper) is accused of murdering one of his classmates. Each episode of the crime drama “unfolds in real time,” as the series description stated.
