Shakespeare's Globe is delighted to announce Michelle Terry's first season as Artistic Director. 2018's Shakespeare productions include Hamlet, As You Like It, The Two Noble Kinsmen, The Winter's Tale, Othello and Love's Labour's Lost. A premiere of three new plays, a national and international tour of Shakespeare and other performances on and off site are announced together with a year-long programme of events exploring the history and future of theatre censorship, as well as a series of events looking at race, refuge and refugees in relation to Shakespeare.

Stage Just in case you missed it...it was announced last week that the actress Michelle Terry will be Shakespeare’s Globe’s artistic director starting in April of 2018. She takes over from the outgoing artistic director, Emma Rice, who—after being booted out unceremoniously—is off to set up a new theatre company called Wise Children. Terry is no stranger to The Globe. The Olivier Award-winner appeared on the stage in the 2015 “As You Like It”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” back in 2013, and “Love’s Labour’s Lost” in 2007. She directed short films of “Richard III...

Ruth Jones' 'Stella' has been renewed for a second series. The Sky1 show - which was written by and stars the 'Gavin and Stacey' actress as the titular character - focuses on a working class single mother from Wales who embarks on a new love affair and Ruth is delighted it will return for at least ten more episodes. She said: 'I'm over the moon that Sky want more Stella. I'm looking forward to getting back to Pontyberry even though the place doen't exist.' Meanwhile, Sky1 have also ordered a second series of The Café - which tells the story of a group of friends in Weston-super-Mare- starring Ralf Little, who also co-wrote the script with Michelle Terry.

Royle Family duo Craig Cash and Ralf Little have reunited for new Sky1 sitcom The Cafe. Cash has directed the series, which is based around a family business in Weston-super-Mare, run by a mother, grandmother and daughter on the seafront. June Watson, Ellie Haddington and Michelle Terry take on the lead roles of Mary, Carol and Sarah. Little, who has written the script with Michelle Terry (Reunited), plays Sarah's ex-boyfriend Richard who is a musician by night and care home worker by day. Daniel Ings is cast as successful events manager and former love rival John, who returns to Weston and ruffles some feathers. David Troughton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Jack Roth, Kevin Trainor and Seeta Indrani are also among the cast. Cash's previous award-winning TV credits include The Royle Family, Early (more)...

Sheridan Smith has won Best Musical Actress for her performance in Legally Blonde: The Musical at tonight’s 35th Olivier Awards in London. The stage version of the MGM comedy also won Best New Musical, while Jill Halfpenny won Best Supporting Musical Performance. Britain’s state-backed National Theatre swept the board with seven wins across two productions. Thea Sharrock’s production of After the Dance won four awards for Best Revival, Best Actress for Nancy Carroll, Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Adrian Scarborough and Best Costume Design. Howard Davies picked up Best Director for his production of The White Guard, which also won Best Lighting and Best Set Design. Presenters at this year’s show, held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, included Patrick Stewart, Matthew Fox (Lost), Rupert Everett, James Purefoy and Jonny Lee Miller. Those in the audience included Derek Jacobi, Tamsin Grieg and Joan Plowright.
