NBC News Changes Washington Bureau Chief: Chloe Arensberg Succeeds Ken Strickland
Image
Chloe Arensberg will succeed Ken Strickland as NBC News’ Washington bureau chief, a big change at the center of NBC’s coverage of the nation’s capital.

Strickland, who has overseen Washington news operations since 2012, will take on a new role as a senior vice president of editorial operations, working to manage the needs of bureaus and newsgathering. He will also assume direct leadership of field production operations in Washington. “This expanded role will have him spending more time in New York and across our bureaus, advising NBC News leadership, as well as Operations & Technology and Facilities,” said Rebecca Blumenstein, president of NBC News’ editorial operations, in a memo to staff. “I’ve also asked Ken to spearhead operations for major news and company-wide events, as well as help support the SpinCo transition. He will report to me.”

Arensberg has worked as deputy Washington chief for the past five years...

NBC News Promotes Chloe Arensberg to Washington Bureau Chief, Succeeding Ken Strickland
Image
NBC News has promoted Chloe Arensberg to Washington bureau chief. She’ll succeed Ken Strickland, who is himself being elevated to senior vice president of NBC News Editorial Operations; Strickland did the D.C. thing for a dozen years.

Arensberg’s promotion makes NBC the only major television news operation in Washington, D.C. to have a woman bureau chief. Arensberg is no newbie to covering the federal government — she oversaw both federal indictments of President Trump for NBC News as well as the U.S. government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Strickland has been with NBC News for 30 years, including time spent at Dateline.

Rebecca Blumenstein, the president of NBC News Editorial, sent the below note to her D.C. Bureau on Wednesday:

All,

I am pleased to announce expanded roles for two of our star leaders in Washington, Ken Strickland and Chloe Arensberg.

After 12 years of building the DC...

'The Company You Keep' Deserves a Season 2
Image
Milo Ventimiglia has built up an impressive career in terms of starring in long-running shows. Beginning with Gilmore Girls and eventually Heroes before his role as Jack Pearson in This Is Us, Ventimiglia has frequently been a part of shows that have stood the test of time. So that’s why there was a ton of optimism surrounding his newest endeavor on ABC, The Company You Keep. Not only was Ventimigilia starring in it opposite Catherine Haena Kim, but he also was serving as executive producer. The show came out strong with the backing of marketing and an interesting premise, but not even that could get this show to last past its first season. ABC opted not to renew the show after it aired its season finale.

The Company You Keep Canceled at ABC After One Season
Image
It's going to be a one-season run for the ABC series The Company You Keep. Inspired by the South Korean series My Fellow Citizens!, the series was created by Julia Cohen with Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim leading the cast. The show premiered on ABC in February and wrapped up its 10-episode freshman season earlier this month. Following soft ratings that reached a series low with the season finale, it's now been reported that ABC has axed The Company You Keep after one season with no plans to develop season 2.

The news came amid multiple shows getting canceled over the past week. Along with The Company You Keep, ABC also axed Alaska Daily after one season along with Big Sky after a three-season run. CBS controversially canceled S.W.A.T. after five seasons, though they have since reversed that decision after an outcry from fans and star Shemar Moore. However, the...

ABC Cancels Multiple Shows, Including Jensen Ackles' Big Sky After 3 Seasons
Image
ABC announces that it has cancelled the crime drama Big Sky, along with two other shows. Big Sky, created by David E. Kelley, started with strong ratings when it debuted in November 2020. For its third installment (which was subtitled Deadly Trails), the show added Ackles as a regular cast member in the role of Beau Arlen. The show also added Reba McEntire, portraying a backcountry outfitter with a history of missing customers. Unfortunately, despite bringing several well-known names to the casting, those changes weren't enough to save the series.

TVLine now confirms that ABC has cancelled Big Sky after three seasons. The network also announced that it has cancelled The Company You Keep and Alaska Daily, which both ran for one season. ABC has yet to announce a decision on four shows: The Conners, Home Economics, Not Dead Yet, and The Rookie: Feds.

‘The Company You Keep’ Canceled By ABC After One Season
Image
ABC has opted not to renew for a second season The Company You Keep, its new drama series starring and executive produced by Milo Ventimiglia.

The Company You Keep, produced by Disney TV Studios’ 20th Television, did not perform as well as ABC’s two other midseason 2023 entries, fellow drama Will Trent, which has been renewed for a second season, and comedy Not Dead Yet, which is looking good for a renewal.

Still, Disney has longstanding relationship with Ventimiglia, who segued to The Company You Keep following his six-season starring turn on 20th Television’s hit NBC drama This Is Us. Based on that and the fact that The Company You Keep only premiered in midseason, there was talk that ABC may give the series a partial second season order to give it more time to find an audience.

Reba McEntire, Jensen Ackles, Katheryn Winnick, and Kylie Bunbury in Big Sky (2020)
David E. Kelley’s ‘Big Sky’ Canceled by ABC After 3 Seasons
Reba McEntire, Jensen Ackles, Katheryn Winnick, and Kylie Bunbury in Big Sky (2020)
“Big Sky” is officially going to the big network in the sky. ABC will not be moving forward with the David E. Kelley crime drama. The network also revealed on Friday that it was axing “Alaska Daily” and “The Company You Keep.”

Despite its initial popularity, it’s not all that surprising that “Big Sky” would be on the chopping block. The series’ premiere episode reached 14.7 million total viewers over a 35 day period, making it ABC’s most-watched debut since “The Good Doctor” in 2017. It was also ABC’s highest-rated series debut in the coveted 18-49 demo since the premiere of “A Million Little Things” in 2018.

But as the series has gone on, its ratings have fallen. A show that routinely drew 3.5 million to 4 million live viewers per episode started to see more and more episodes in the 2.2 million range. This decline likely had to do with “Big Sky’s” story arc.

This Character’s Death Would Have Been Good For The Company You Keep
Image
No one died in The Company You Keep season 1, and that was a mistake on the writers' part. The show centers around the love story between Charlie, played by Milo Ventimiglia, and Emma, played by Catherine Haena Kim, and how their very different lives tear them apart. He is a con man, and she is a CIA agent, so their relationship was built to fall apart. However, perhaps one change to the ABC drama series' first season would have reversed the curse on Charlie and Emma's doomed relationship.

Emma gave her car keys to her brother David and his girlfriend Jennifer in The Company You Keep season 1, episode 9. Once they got inside, Jennifer realized they were sitting on a bomb. The couple got out just before the car exploded, but David and Jennifer were rushed to the hospital where they were treated for their non-fatal injuries. The bomb was meant for Emma,...

The Company You Keep Season 2 Is A Long Shot
Image
ABC hasn't announced whether it is renewing or canceling The Company You Keep following the season 1 finale, but the chances of season 2 happening are very slim. The show, which centers around the love story between Milo Ventimiglia's criminal character and Catherine Haena Kim's CIA agent character, contained only ten episodes in the first season. They were engaging and thrilling, but that might not be enough to warrant a renewal.

Charlie, played by Ventimiglia, is a criminal who comes from a family of cons. Emma, played by Kim, is a CIA agent who comes from a prominent family in the world of politics. Charlie and Emma's love is akin to Romeo and Juliet's, and viewers were intrigued from the get-go. The only problem is that The Company You Keep pulls in below-average ratings for ABC, and with the Writers Guild of America strike ongoing, it's unlikely that the...

The Company You Keep Finale Proves Charlie & Emma Shouldn't Be Together
Image
Charlie and Emma are the central relationship in The Company You Keep season 1, but the finale demonstrates why they don't work as a couple. The last episode of the first season features the two coming together to take down Patrick Maguire once and for all. However, the finale also digs deeper into the intricacies of Charlie and Emma's dynamic and proves that they don't make sense as a romantic pairing.

From the premiere of The Company You Keep, the chemistry between Milo Ventimiglia's and Catherine Haena Kim's characters is undeniable. But as the series continues, the realities of Charlie and Emma's professions come crashing down on their relationship. He's a criminal with a heart of gold while she is a CIA agent with trust issues. They come from two different walks of life, and no matter how much they love one another, they can't escape who they are at their cores.

‘The Company You Keep’: What a Season 2 Could Look Like After That Finale
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Company You Keep Season 1 finale “The Truth Hurts.”] Well, at least The Company You Keep didn’t end its first season — which could be its only, given it hasn’t been renewed and so much up in the air due to the writers strike — on a major cliffhanger. In fact, it does a pretty good job of setting up what a second season could look like while also giving us an idea of what could be next for these characters in such a way that we’re not left with too many questions about what the future holds. Emma (Catherine Haena Kim) and Charlie’s (Milo Ventimiglia) plan to take down Patrick Maguire (Timothy V. Murphy) for good not only works, but Leo (William Fichtner) and Fran (Polly Draper) are also able to use that takedown to put an end to Frankie’s (Tony Shalhoub) for the neighborhood after...

Image
We’re only six episodes into The Company You Keep, and everyone’s revealing secrets left and right! It’s Charlie’s (Milo Ventimiglia) turn (again) in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the April 2 episode. First, it was Emma (Catherine Haena Kim) revealing to Charlie that she’s CIA. Then, he told her Daphne (Felisha Terrell) was coming for her — and he knew her name because he’s working for her. Emma realized he was the man in the mask, and Charlie warned her that Daphne had dirt on her family and intended to use it. He told her because he loved her, too. Well, it seems like love wasn’t enough for the con man and the CIA officer. In our sneak peek of “The Real Thing,” Charlie’s called a family meeting. What kind is it? As Leo (William Fichtner) deduces by his bottle choice, a “top shelf family meeting.

The Company You Keep Star Teases When Emma Will Learn Charlie's Secret
Image
The Company You Keep star Catherine Haena Kim discusses when Emma will find out about Charlie's big secret. The major development in The Company You Keep episode 4, "All In," picks up where the previous installment left off. It's revealed that Charlie (Milo Ventimiglia) was actually taken by the CIA. He's interrogated, eventually learning that his girlfriend Emma (Kim) works for the agency, but the couple moves beyond the revelation easily enough. But still, Charlie's true identity as a conman remains a mystery to Emma.

While talking to TVLine, Kim discussed when her character will know Charlie's secret. The actor answered candidly, explaining that it will happen, and it won't be held until the end of The Company You Keep season 1 as a cliffhanger. Kim's quote is included below:

“That’ll also be sooner than you think it’s going to be. It’s not one of those things you’re...

The Company You Keep’s CIA Twist Is Bad News For Milo Ventimiglia’s Character
Image
The Company You Keep revealing Emma is in the CIA complicates things for Milo Ventimiglia’s Charlie. Emma (Catherine Haena Kim) and Charlie met at a hotel bar after breaking up with significant others. They told each other the truth about what they do, Emma working for the CIA and Charlie being a criminal, but they both thought they were joking. Both of their professions were too crazy to be true.

Because of what they do, Emma and Charlie’s relationship is doomed. This has made it fun for viewers to watch their close misses. They were both in Daphne’s hotel room at the same time, and Daphne was in the Nicoletti’s bar about a minute before Emma arrived. It was assumed that at some point, they would run into each other while Charlie was on a con and Emma was on a case. However, The Company You...

Does Dr. Kalu’s homecoming portend the return of another storyline from The Good Doctor Season 1?

At the tail end of Monday’s episode, attending surgeon Shaun confronted former peer-turned-pupil Jared about his suturing technique. Their patient, who underwent brain surgery, received eight sutures and suffered a small post-op bleed; per Shaun, Jared should have closed with 10 sutures. But according to Dr. Kalu, he wasn’t responsible for the bleed. It was Dr. Glassman who handled sutures.

American Idol Plays With Fire in Week 5, Staging the Most Dramatic Ending Yet
Image
The scripting was heavy as American Idol entered its fifth week of Season 21 auditions on Sunday, an episode which ended with a cliffhanger that felt a little too produced for my liking.

Fire Wilmore, a 22-year-old single mother from Oklahoma, was the final contestant of the evening, and the show played her up big time. We got her entire backstory about entering into state custody because of her own mother’s drug problems. We heard how desperately she wants to get out of exotic dancing and give a better future to her daughter. We even watched Fire teach her 4-year-old charmer how wishing wells work.

'The Company You Keep' Shows the Problem With Charlie & Emma's Relationship
Image
ABC is off to a quick start with the debut of The Company You Keep, and the second episode continued to add intrigue to the Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim drama. There’s a natural interest in a narrative that places a con man and an undercover CIA agent in a romance where neither of them knows what the other does. After a strong start with its pilot episode, The Company You Keep didn’t miss a beat in adding more layers to this continually complicated relationship. While the first episode was set to establish these two characters and get them all in one place, the second installment sought to explain why this won’t be an easy journey for the two if they truly want to explore this relationship. With obstacles at every corner and a whole other private life from the other, the second episode demonstrated just...
