The nominees for the upcoming 2023 British Academy Film Awards have been revealed.

Leading with 14 nominations, among the 25 categories, is Edward Berger’s adaptation of “All Quiet on the Western Front”. Despite the First World War drama’s lack of fanfare since its Netflix release last October, the film has garnered notable attention as awards season picks up.

Following “All Quiet” is Martin McDonagh’s comedy-drama “The Banshees of Inisherin” with 10 nominations, including nods to leading star Colin Farrell. The film is tied with the hit indie flick “Everything Everywhere All At Once”.

This year’s BAFTA Awards, hosted by Richard E. Grant at London’s Royal Festival Hall, airs Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. GMT. The annual awards ceremony recognizes and honours some of the best British and international film contributions of the year.

The film, starring Daniel Brühl in a leading role, is set to be one of Germany’s biggest productions ever. The cameras will begin to roll on Edward Berger’s All Quiet on the Western Front in March 2021. The project, set to be one of Germany’s most expensive productions to date, follows the Wolfsburg-born director’s recent efforts, namely the drama All My Loving and the TV series Patrick Melrose and Your Honor. Daniel Brühl, attached to the project as one of the leading actors, will also serve as executive producer. Yes, Enrique Remarque’s Wwi novel All Quite on the Western Front is going to get a new adaptation and remake of the classic Academy Award winning 1930's film from director Lewis Milestone. This newest version of the story will be directed by Pay it Forward and Deep Impact director Mimi Leder. I love the original film and I love the book even more. It's such a powerful story, and I'm not opposed to the book getting a new adaptation. I'm just not sure if Leder is the right director for the job. She has mostly been working in TV over the last few years, and her films have all been mediocre.

The novel tells the the story about the intense and terrifying action of 1918 trench warfare that traumatizes a young and idealistic German soldier on the Western front. It will be interesting to see how Leder tackles the material...

I can't imagine that writer/producers Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell have their sights set on an Oscar repeat, but they've picked up a young star that's been locked in Potterdom despite a few attempts and opportunities to play around outside the wizarding world. According to Variety, Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to the project, taking on the role of Paul which was first originated on screen by the legendary Lew Ayres.
