Netflix's newest political thriller Zero Day made its highly anticipated premiere today, but is a rare television appearance from Robert De Niro enough to please critics? Apparently not, as the series has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with just a 45% score, with the consensus being that, despite an interesting premise, Zero Day fails to deliver an engaging story over the course of its six-episode run.
"Utterly predictable, and the supporting characters hardly develop," said M.N. Miller from FandomWire, who adds that this causes Zero Day "to lead to a contrived plot that undercuts much of the suspense" with a "rushed" resolution. That's pretty harsh. "This could have been Netflix's successor to House of Cards," commented Alex Maidy from JoBlo's Movie Network, who says that instead it:
Wastes one of the best ensemble casts in recent memory with a story bogged down by red herrings and misdirections while still managing to be somewhat entertaining.

Cross premiered on Prime Video, so do critics think this new drama is worth watching?
Created by James Patterson for his debut 1993 novel Along Came A Spider, Alex Cross has become one of the greatest heroes in fiction. Patterson has written over 30 novels featuring the detective, who specializes in tracking anything from serial killers to even government conspiracies, using his insight into criminals for an edge.
The character has been adapted to movies with Morgan Freeman in adaptations of Spider and Kiss the Girls and Tyler Perry in 2012's Alex Cross. Now, Prime Video has a new series set with Aldis Hodge as Cross, who's overcoming the murder of his wife while tracking a new killer.
The series has an original story not based on any Patterson novel, yet it seems to be an intriguing and moody new take on the property. Overall, we thought the first season was great!

The Peacock original series Teacup recently received some high praise from Stephen King, who complimented the series before its October release, comparing it to Lost and From. Screen Rant reports that one cast member, Boris McGiver, who plays Donald Kelly in the series, was touched the author spoke so highly of the show. Teacup was inspired by Robert R. McCammons novel, Stinger.
The horror/thriller follows three families trapped on a rural Georgia farm called the Chenoweth Ranch. The neighbors have to pull together to fight against a deadly threat. McGiver credited the shows writer and creator Ian McCulloch and agreed with Kings observation that every scene in the show has a purpose and there is little downtime.
