‘Happy Face’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: E.R. Ruiz, Cindy Nicholsen, David Roche, Dawn Shaw, Robin L’Houmeau, Debbie Lynch-White, Dean Perseo, Noémie Kocher | Written by Joelle Bourjolly, Alexandre Franchi | Directed by Alexandre Franchi

Happy Face is a very different kind of film. Beginning as a personal concept and going on to an Indiegogo campaign, using crowdfunding as a way to make it happen, Alexandre Franchi (The Wild Hunt) went out of his way, with passion and a desire, to create a film that promotes diversity and shows real people with real disabilities and facial differences on screen in a way that isn’t presented as farcical, nor overly saccharine, nor merely tragic. The courage of these individuals is something Franchi explores, showing them, as he mentioned in his campaign, as people not just with disfigurements, but people with their own personal desires, relationships and insecurities. What a beautiful idea, what a novel approach.

The story itself...

Described as a "cold thriller set on the blazing road to Las Vegas, provoking the ultimate question – is there any way the hostages can escape alive?" The cast includes Michael Madsen, William Baldwin, Cassie Howarth, Iván González, and E.R. Ruiz. Looks like a crazy combination of Buried, but in a car trunk, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Bradley Cooper in American Sniper (2014)
From director Clint Eastwood comes American Sniper, arriving onto Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD on May 19 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, A Mad Chance Production, A 22nd & Indiana Production. American Sniper stars Bradley Cooper as Chris Kyle, whose skills as a sniper made him a hero on the battlefield. But there was much more to him than his skill as a sharpshooter.

A two-time Oscar nominee for his work in Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, Cooper stars alongside Sienna Miller, Luke Grimes, Jake McDorman, Cory Hardrict, Kevin Lacz, Navid Negahban and Keir O'Donnell. Oscar-winning filmmaker Clint Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby, Unforgiven) directed American Sniper from a screenplay written by Jason Hall, based on the book by Chris Kyle, with Scott McEwen and James Defelice. The autobiography was a runaway bestseller, spending 18 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, 13 of those at number one.

Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
Spielberg's 'American Sniper' Would Have Been Different
Steven Spielberg at an event for The 79th Annual Academy Awards (2007)
American Sniper continues to break records following its historic first weekend in wide release at the box office, taking in over $105 million over the four-day Mlk holiday. The film has received a largely positive response, with a 73% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, although there are plenty of vocal detractors as well. Months before Clint Eastwood signed on to helm, Steven Spielberg was attached to direct, just three months after the film's subject Chris Kyle was murdered by a troubled veteran. Screenwriter Jason Hall, who first met Chris Kyle back in 2010, revealed new details about Steven Spielberg's take on the project to The Hollywood Reporter, which would have shifted the film's main focus drastically.

According to Jason Hall, who received an Oscar nomination last week for Best Adapted Screenplay, Steven Spielberg wanted to focus more on the "enemy sniper" Chris Kyle is trying to track down throughout the film, known...

Surpassing all targets, Warner Bros. Pictures' and Village Roadshow Pictures' multiple Oscar-nominated drama American Sniper smashed virtually every available record as it opened nationwide on the heels of its already record-breaking limited release. Bradley Cooper in American Sniper (2014)
'American Sniper' Sets January Box Office Opening Record
Bradley Cooper in American Sniper (2014)
While some critics have been quite harsh on Clint Eastwood's latest endeavor American Sniper, a biopic that follows the rise of Navy Seal Chris Kyle, America's deadliest sharpshooter, audiences have a different opinion. The film has broken January's biggest box office opening record, pulling in an estimated $30.5 million on Friday, (a number that includes Thursday previews). This is also a new record for Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, and it could be the biggest January weekend opening of all time.

American Sniper debuted Christmas Day in just four theaters, taking in a very impressive $633,456. Yesterday, it expanded into 3,555 theaters, kicking off a great start to the New Year. With it's $30.1 million, it's not only the biggest January opening, beating Cloverfield's $17 million back in 2008, it is also the biggest single day in January, besting the record held by James Cameron's Avatar, which pulled in $25.8 million on January 2, 2010.

Those aren't...

'American Sniper' Clips Featuring Bradley Cooper
Clint Eastwood
Warner Bros. has released four clips from the Clint Eastwood directed American Sniper. Bradley Cooper stars in this military drama which recounts the true story of America's deadliest sharpshooter. These first scenes show Chris Kyle acclimating himself to life on the battlefield, and how he had to readjust in his return home.

U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle is sent to Iraq with only one mission: to protect his brothers-in-arms. His pinpoint accuracy saves countless lives on the battlefield and, as stories of his courageous exploits spread, he earns the nickname "Legend." However, his reputation is also growing behind enemy lines, putting a price on his head and making him a prime target of insurgents. He is also facing a different kind of battle on the home front: striving to be a good husband and father from halfway around the world.

Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home,...

Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and Nina Dobrev in Vampire Diaries (2009)
Have 'Vampire Diaries,' other supernatural shows made TV deaths boring?
Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, and Nina Dobrev in Vampire Diaries (2009)
(Spoilers ahead for a slew of television shows; proceed with caution!)

A television show represents a fictional world, an escape from the drama that surrounds us in our real lives. Instead of dealing with our relationship problems, we discuss which brother Elena Gilbert should choose on The Vampire Diaries. And instead of reflecting on our own issues, we get lost in Walter White’s downfall or Olivia Pope’s family drama. Typically, these fictional worlds represent a more extreme universe than the one in which we live, and therefore a more exciting one. Most of us don’t have a...

NBC Fall Schedule: The Peacock Totally Remakes Thursdays (and Delays Community)
Bonnie Bedelia, Craig T. Nelson, Monica Potter, Joy Bryant, Erika Christensen, Lauren Graham, Sam Jaeger, Peter Krause, Mae Whitman, Dax Shepard, Max Burkholder, Miles Heizer, Tyree Brown, Savannah Paige Rae, and Xolo Maridueña in Parenthood (2010)
Big changes are coming to NBC next fall, including a radical remaking of its Thursday night lineup. As part of a new fall schedule just announced, the Peacock network will shift Parks and Recreation to the 8 p.m. lead-off slot Thursday, delay the return of Community, add three new sitcoms (including The Michael J. Fox Show) and relocate Parenthood to the 10 p.m. timeslot which once housed E.R. and L.A. Law. In another big move, Revolution will give up its cushy slot following The Voice and air Wednesdays at 8, with the buzzy James Spader drama The Blacklist inheriting the 10 p.m. Monday slot. Overall, NBC is changing at least one hour every night of the week (except Sundays in the fall, which will remain devoted to football), with a new show (or newly relocated show) airing at 10 p.m. every weeknight. NBC is also saving some big guns until...
