The 1980s was a lean spell for western fans. After the critical and commercial disaster of Michael Cimino's "Heaven's Gate," Hollywood studios were understandably reluctant to pile lots of money into a moribund genre and notable horse operas were few and far between. With the likes of "Silverado," "Young Guns," and "Three Amigos!" to choose from, Kathryn Bigelow's "Near Dark" was pretty much the best of the bunch, but that was as much a modern vampire movie as a typical oater. The classic western movie looked seriously long in the tooth, and it wouldn't flourish again until Kevin Costner resurrected it with his Oscar-winning "Dances with Wolves."
Then of course there was Clint Eastwood. If ever there was a filmmaker and a star who could buck the trend, it was arguably the best western movie actor to dominate the screen. By the mid '80s, Clint had been...

Well, it looks like we’re not done sipping wine and unraveling secrets by the river just yet. Yep, Netflix’s Virgin River is officially coming back for season 7, and we can’t keep calm. Our beloved small-town drama, filled with mysterious family trees, love triangles, and emotional cliffhangers, is about to break the network’s records as the longest-running English-language drama on the platform.
Based on Robyn Carr’s addictive novels, Virgin River has delivered everything- from medical emergencies to romantic rollercoasters, and now? Well, it is all set to stir the plot again. In Season 6, Mel and Jack finally said ‘I do’, but showrunner Patrick Sean Smith teased that we’ve only scratched the surface of their story. Shocking, right?

In times past, the multicam sitcom was a format that gave its stars a lot to like. Of course, there was the pleasure of getting instant feedback from a studio audience, which could be crucial for surviving a long shooting day. But there was also the fact that it was a shooting day, singular. While cast and crew would rehearse and block an episode one or more days during the week, those days could be short, letting stars roll in at a reasonable hour and maybe even leave in time to pick up their kids from school. A single-camera sitcom is tougher: The same scene has to be shot many more times to get different coverage angles, and when you’re chasing the light outdoors, your call time might be punishingly early. All that might be true for Stick, too, but considering it’s a sports comedy, stars Owen Wilson...

"The Simpsons" Halloween anthology episodes, "Treehouse of Horror," are a tradition going on 25 years right now. Some "Treehouse" segments are superior to others, naturally, but the episodes give the show a chance to break all the rules, killing characters willy-nilly or irrevocably changing Springfield.
"Treehouse of Horror" is so synonymous with "The Simpsons" that the "Simpsons" comics, published by the now-defunct Bongo Comics, did an annual "Treehouse of Horror" issue from 1995 to 2017. (These "Treehouse of Horror" comics are now collected in omnibus editions.)
One of the most famous "Treehouse of Horror" comics was "Murder, He Wrote," an Eisner Award-winning parody of the manga/anime "Death Note." This was in 2008, many years before the animated "Treehouse of Horror Xxxiii" combined "The Simpsons" and "Death Note."
Now, many of the "Treehouse" comic stories were written by Bongo Comics regulars. "Murder, He Wrote" was by regular "Simpsons" comic writer Ian Boothby, with manga-influenced...

The description for Dirty Harry reads,

Since rising to the status of A-list Hollywood icon after starring in Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy, Clint Eastwood has been the face of the Western genre. Taking over from an aging John Wayne, he cemented that status throughout the 1970s, thanks to films like High Plains Drifter, Hang 'Em High and Two Mules For Sister Sara. Throughout his career, Eastwood has both starred in and directed some of the greatest revisionist Westerns of all time, a sub-genre he basically perfected.
Eastwood's Western movies range from the supernatural to morally-complex character studies, exploring the violence and potential of life in the Old West. Ranging from action-heavy shootouts to explorations of the turmoil of the West, the actor's films also boast a variety of brilliant scenes. Thanks to his strong screen presence to his distinguished appearance, few stars have as many great scenes under their belt as Eastwood.

While Amazon's adaptation of The Boys has reached iconic status thanks to its unflinching satire of superhero fandom, fans almost got a live-action adaptation a decade earlier and on the big screen. In a recent interview, The Boys co-creator Garth Ennis discusses the original intention to adapt the gory, irreverent story into a movie trilogy, including a major location change for its blood-soaked final battle.
Speaking to fellow comic writer Mark Millar on Millar Time, Ennis discusses past opportunities to have Preacher and The Boys adapted as movies. Ennis confirms that a script for a The Boys movie was written by Adam McKay, the writer/director behind movies including Anchorman, The Big Short and Don't Look Up. This version of the story seemingly changed the location of the comic's climactic battle from the White House to the Farallon Islands.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about Episodes 509 (Angel’s Peak) and 510 (Labor Day) of Netflix’s series Virgin River.
Part 1 of Virgin River‘s fifth season came to a close with eventful last two episodes. In typical Virgin River fashion, there were bombshell revelations — Lizzie is pregnant, baddie Calvin is the father of Charmaine’s twins, and the big one is the cliffhanger that set up the upcoming Christmas-themed two-episode Part 2 — Mel’s biological father is likely a man from Virgin River, identity unknown (for now).
That last shocker does stretch the limits of believability, even for a soapy romantic drama, as Mel originally landed in Virgin River, a place she said she had never heard of, after answering an ad.
In other developments, Jack takes Mel on a hike to Angel’s Peak to have a heart-to-heart after she had pulled away following her miscarriage. They get lost and rained on,...

I have chills.
The series managed to capture the heart and soul of this drama, with this community having to go through such a traumatic and terrifying ordeal. It was a tough one, but Virgin River Season 5 Episode 6 was one of the series' strongest hours to date.
At five seasons, one of the best aspects of having a series going this long is seeing how much characters have evolved from when we first met them.
And to highlight that even further, we saw that with so many characters put to the test during this natural disaster.
As far as the Dan Brady Redemption Arc, it has been seasons in the making, and while he still has some ways to free himself from Melissa's clutches, it was gratifying as a Brady fan to see him step up and continue to be heroic throughout this ordeal.

Life is dealing the folks of Virgin River with heartwarming and heartbreaking cards.
And frankly, we wouldn't have it any other way, as Virgin River Season 5 Episode 4 served as a bit of calm before the storm, or in this case, before the wildfire.
The hour served as a reminder that we must take the bad with the good in life and can't take anything for granted.
It made it a perfect precursor for what's to come when the wildfires ravage through this small town we know and love.
Do you know what's winsome? A collection of women in their 60s and older reflecting on life and figuring out what their new normal is.
There is often so much discourse surrounding women and aging, and the ladies of Virgin River welcome the concept of aging and the discussions surrounding it and show how beautiful it is.
It also hits you how...

We are 100% here for all the characters on Virgin River growing, evolving, self-reflecting, and trying to be their best selves.
Sometimes, you don't need too many external conflicts to tell a compelling story, and Virgin River Season 5 Episode 3, much like the previous installments, showcases that well.
There's no shortage of conflict coming from outside sources, of course, as the wildfire is approaching and Melissa and her brother both are impacting many people in Virgin River, but the internal work and interpersonal dynamics among characters are most compelling.
The hour introduced us to Lizzie's ambitious, career-driven, opinionated mother, Deidre, and Preacher's scorching hot firefighter love interest.
We also got some endearing moments between Jack and Denny as he continues down his path of healing.
The opener was enough to leave you gasping as you feared that Jack had somehow backslid with his drinking and disrupted things with Mel.
Fortunately, that wasn't the case,...

It feels like a season of healing and reflection for many of the characters, and there's something genuinely endearing about that.
In many ways, Virgin River Season 5 Episode 2 felt like a stronger case for the season premiere than Virgin River Season 5 Episode 1.
We got the much-awaited and necessary conversation between Jack and Charmaine, leading to an unexpected display of both individuals taking ownership and accountability for their actions and potentially moving forward healthily.
We also established a theme for the season involving motherhood and reflection as Mel, Preacher, new character Ava, and Charmaine all reflect in various ways on how their mothers influenced their lives and how that applies to their respective journeys now.
The insight into the characters that we've come to love is just knowing, and yes, even those we loathe, led to many compelling scenes within the hour.

Changes are coming to Virgin River, and some of them are surprising.
Most of Virgin River Season 5 Episode 1 caught us up with where things left off during Virgin River Season 4 Episode 10 and eased us into some of the new conflicts and plots we can expect for the season.
One of the most prominent takeaways from the premiere is that Melissa Montgomery is here to disrupt Virgin River's quiet world and all the people within it.
If the hour didn't set anything else up, they touched on how many conflicts would arise because of Melissa's plans and actions and, sadly, because of how Brady and others may get tangled up in her web.
We also saw some new faces arriving, familiar ones departing, and some shake-ups.
Surprisingly, we breezed past those tense final moments of the season four finale that saw Jack learning the shocking truth that he was not the twins' father.

CBS has given a pilot order to S.W.A.T., a drama series inspired by the 2003 Sony movie that was based on the 1975 TV series produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg.
