Matthew Bennett is an artist and filmmaker based in Toronto, Canada.
He was recently awarded a major video/new media grant from the Ontario Arts Council in Canada. He has also finished his first complete feature film, Tahiti. Tahiti stars Ryan Tilley and Stefen Hayes and is the story of two brothers whose surveillance on a neighbor leads them to discover she is building a bomb. Tahiti was filmed with the Andromeda HD camera system created by Reel-Stream LLC.
Bennett's motion pictures have been featured in film festivals including Reel Asian, Persistence of Vision, On the Fly, and the Drake Underground Series. He has had work shown on the IFC, the CBC, and Space, the Imagination Station. Recently he was tapped as a producer for both Alliance Atlantis (U8TV) and the CBC (theX)
Since 2004, he has produced one feature length film production per year, and has plans to continue to do so.
In the fine arts field, Bennett has curated over a dozen art shows in Toronto, mainly focusing on painting and video work. During 2002-2004 he was co-director/founder of the Mind Control Gallery on Gladstone Avenue in Toronto. His painting and conceptual work garnered him cover stories in Vice, Artfocus and Eye Weekly. As well, he was documented in articles by the Toronto Star, Peace, Mix and Now Magazine.
