Born in Aleppo (Syria), Mardo came to the Netherlands in 1998, at the age of nine, as a refugee. Together with his parents and sisters, they settled in Groningen, where he followed a vocational theatre course at the regional training center Noorderpoort.
From 2009 he attended the Maastricht Theatre Academy, where he graduated in 2013. With former classmate Steef de Bot, he founded the 'Stichting Icarus', which teaches children and young people how to deal with emotions and to think about their future by acting out their dreams through theater lessons.
