‘Battle On The Mountain’ Gets Premiere Date At HGTV

Battle on the Mountain, an extension of HGTV’s popular competition series Battle on the Beach, is set to premiere Monday, January 22 at 9 pm with a two-hour episode.

Set at 13,000 feet above sea level, the six-episode Battle on the Mountain features three skilled teams, coached by home experts Rico León (Rico to the Rescue), Kim Myles (Design Star: Next Gen) and Kim Wolfe (Why The Heck Did I Buy This House?), who will face off to upgrade similar mountainside homes in Breckenridge, Colorado. Each team will work to add the most property value in hopes of clinching bragging rights and a $50,000 cash prize.

The premiere episode kicks off with kitchen and dining room makeovers that will set the tone for each mountaintop property’s metamorphosis, judged by popular HGTV home renovation couple Chelsea and Cole DeBoer (Down Home Fab) who will award the challenge winners with a $3,000 cash prize. HGTV & Food Network Unveil First Slate Post-Warner Bros. Deal With More Guy Fieri & Nicole Curtis Series

HGTV and Food Network are bolstering their lineups.

The two cable networks, which are owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, have unveiled their first slates following the merger – although the faces remain familiar.

HGTV has ordered new series including Cristy Lee’s Steal This House, Rehab Addict Lake House Rescue from Nicole Curtis, Flip to A Million and First Home Fix, while Food Network has commissioned BBQ USA, It’s CompliPlated and Guy’s Ultimate Game Night from Guy Fieri.

The new slates mean that the two networks will have more than 70 new series across their 2022 schedules with HGTV producing more than 570 hours of new original programming in 2022 including 3 new series and specials, and 27 returning programs and Food Network with more than 660 hours of new programming for the year, including 40 new series and specials, and 30 returners. Discovery, a day after announcing a landmark, $43 billion merger with AT&T’s WarnerMedia, delivered its first upfront presentation in two years to tout 2021-22 programming.

The virtual presentation promises a record investment in content for the company’s linear and digital outlets, including recently launched streaming service Discovery+. In taking the wraps off the WarnerMedia deal Monday, Discovery CEO David Zaslav said the combined company will be spending $20 billion a year on programming. Today’s upfront news didn’t come with a specific budget attached.

Cable TV brands under the Discovery tent include Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, Investigation Discovery, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, Magnolia Network, Animal Planet, MotorTrend, Travel Channel and Science Channel.

“Mythbusters” stars Adam Savage, Kari Byron and Tory Belleci were among those paying tribute to the late race car driver Jessi Combs following after she died in a crash on Tuesday.

“She was a brilliant & too-notch builder, engineer, driver, fabricator, and science communicator, & strove everyday to encourage others by her prodigious example,” Savage wrote in a tweet on Wednesday. “She was also a colleague, and we are lesser for her absence.”

Discovery Sets MotorTrend Network Relaunch for Black Friday
Discovery plans to flip the switch on its rebrand of the Velocity cable channel as MotorTrend Network on Nov. 23, also know as the Black Friday kickoff of the holiday shopping season.

The switch comes a little over a year after Discovery set a joint venture with the MotorTrend Group, owner of the venerable Motor Trend monthly magazine. The rebranding is part of Discovery’s larger effort to build out multiplatform services around key programming genres such as automobile enthusiasts.

The fledgling MotorTrend Network streaming subscription service has about 200,000 subscribers who pay $5 a month for news, information and long- and short-form content. Programming that airs on the linear MotorTrend Network will premiere first on the subscription app.
