If there is one thing that Pokémon fans had issues with in the original anime series was the fact that protagonist Ash Ketchum (Rica Matsumoto in the original Japanese and Veronica Taylor/Sarah Natochenny in the English dub) never aged. Over the course of over 1,200 episodes spread across 25 seasons, the boy remained a 10-year-old Pokémon trainer, and even went through a redesign that made him look even younger in the final seasons. For the franchise's new iteration Pokémon Horizons, though, it looks like this isn't going to happen. A poster was unveiled for the series' new segment, titled Pokemon Horizons: Mega Voltage, and it had a distinct difference: the three protagonists look like they were aged up at least a couple of years.

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
The title "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" suggests a small-time superhero, but the series' 10-episode debut season pulled in faces from all across the Marvel Universe. Among the main cast, the show reinvented Nico Minoru (Grace Song) of "The Runaways" as the goth best friend of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames).
I grew up on the 1990s "Spider-Man" cartoon, which often featured Mighty Marvel Team-Ups between Spidey and other superheroes: X-Men, Captain America, etc. "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is doing the same. Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) shows up in the premiere and the finale. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) shows up in episode 6 to spar with Spider-Man, and his apprentice Finesse (Anjali Kunapaneni) is posing as one of Peter's fellow Oscorp interns.

For most of its run, it followed Ash Ketchum (Rica Matsumoto/Veronica Taylor and Sarah Natochenny) as he traveled the various regions of the Pokémon world to become a Pokémon master. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man swings through more action-packed adventures in the seventh episode. How will Nico and Peter’s relationship change now that she knows Peter is Spider-Man? Will Norman be able to track down Otto Octavius? And will the 110th Street Gang be able to stand up to the Scorpion? Let’s dive right into our full spoiler discussion (final warning for those who haven’t seen it yet) and see if we can answer those questions.
What happens in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Episode 7?
As the episode opens, Peter is desperate to get Nico to simply talk to him, but she is still too angry with him to engage. He sits on the steps with Pearl, who is still worried about Lonnie. Halfway through season 1 and "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" has been gladly drafting its supporting characters and villains from all corners of Marvel Comics. Peter Parker's (Hudson Thames) best friend Nico Minoru (Grace Song) is from "The Runaways," and his schoolboy crush isn't Mary Jane Watson or Liz Allan -- it's Pearl Pangan (Cathy Ang). In the comics, Pearl is a recently-introduced water-themed superhero named Wave. Time will tell if her animated self takes on that identity, or if Nico will become a sorcerer.
The people who do have super-abilities are the series villains, the latest one being Unicorn/Mila Masaryk. True to her name, she can blast an energy beam from a helmet she wears. In this version, the weapon is supplied by Doctor Otto Octavius (Hugh Dancy). Complementing the Unicorn imagery, Mila wears her hair in a mane-like mohawk.

Ash Ketchum's (Sarah Natochenny) journey across the 26-year run of the Pokémon anime set him up against a plethora of other Pokémon trainers that continuously challenged him in new ways. It took him that entire 26 years to eventually make it to the finals of the Pokémon League and win. If it took him that long to finally win, that's got to mean that he faced some amazing rivals along the way.

Like most Shonen anime, Akira Toriyama’s anime franchise is ridden with controversies. This holds especially true for voice actors. Be it Masako Nozawa or the late Hiromi Tsuru, the incessant use of the same voice actors received backlash from fans. However, things might change for good this time.

Non-canon ships in anime offer fans imaginative pairings beyond traditional relationships, catering to diverse preferences. Friendship dynamics and "enemies-to-lovers" narratives are common themes in non-canon ships, providing unique storytelling opportunities. Fans enjoy exploring unlikely pairings like Jessie & Delia or Sukuna & Cinderella for their entertaining and creative dynamics.
A favorite pastime of many anime fans is shipping their favorite characters together. These can be characters be romantic partners in their shows, or simply a pairing that fans would like to see together. Some of the ships even cross properties and are so bizarre that they are known as crack ships. Canon ships are nice, but some of the best couplings come from non-canon ships in non-romance anime.
Non-canon ships from non-romance anime are as eclectic as they are entertaining. A lot of non-canon ships focus on friendship dynamics that would work well as partnerships. Others would be more enemies-to-lovers stories if they actually occurred.

Anime villains are some of the most popular characters. They do absolutely despicable things, and many of them don't get any kind of redemption arc. A character doesn't have to be admirable or relatable to be interesting and enjoyable, though.
A great villain elevates an anime, raising the stakes and giving the protagonist something to work against. They may be a foil to the hero of the story, or a once-heroic person who tragically loses their way. Some anime villains have reached true notoriety and fan favorite status. Some villains are so interesting and well-designed that fans often speculate if they are the mangaka's favorite character.

It goes beyond question that Pokmon is a pop cultural phenomenon that starts with the original anime series. With 251 pocket monsters that span across two generations, not to mention 274 episodes and a few specials and movies, Ash Ketchums journey has a lot of ground to cover in his epic quest to catch them all. His travels will take him from Kanto all the way to Johto. With so many different species out there, Ash and his friends end up everywhere, from virtual worlds to hot volcanic mountains.
However, not every Pokmon will get a chance to bask in the glorious spotlight, like Pikachu and Meowth frequently do in every single episode. A select few are very hard to find in both the games and the anime. Powerful legendaries may only show up in a feature length film, while even normal Pokmon end up debuting in episodes taken off syndication due to censorship.

Some classic anime are so amazing and well-written that they withstand several rewatches. Despite the age of these retro series, adoring fans regularly rewatch them regularly every year or so, including many shojo and shonen anime that make for excellent comfort watches.
The past few decades have yielded several mature anime like Cowboy Bebop, which often feature heavier themes that are supported by tight narratives, great characters, and soundtracks good enough to listen to on their own. Sarah Natochenny was surprised to learn that Ash's era in the Pokémon anime would be coming to an end after 17 years of voicing the character. Playing Ash for so long has been an honor for Natochenny, and she values the impact the show has had on fans, providing comfort in tough times. Natochenny looks back fondly on the Xy and XYZ eras of the show, where she got to explore a mature side of Ash, and also enjoyed the variety of situations in the recent Journeys series.
Since 2006, Sarah Natochenny has voiced Pokémon's Ash Ketchum in the English dub, a long career which has seen her throughout many different eras of the long-running anime. That culminated in Ash's victory in the Masters' Eight Tournament last year (in Japan), where he took on the title of World Champion, a major triumph which signaled the beginning of the end for Ash's time in the spotlight.

The voice actor behind Ash Ketchum, Sarah Natochenny, has dropped a special video showing her reaction to the final episode featuring the beloved protagonist of the Pokemon anime.
Yesterday, Netflix released the final twelve episodes starring Ash Ketchum and his partner Pikachu in the series Pokemon: To Be A Pokemon Master. In it, Ash enjoys the “aftermath” of winning the Pokemon World Coronation Series after defeating Leon. Through these final adventures, he’ll not only reconnect with fan-favorite characters and Pokemon but he will also wonder about the true meaning of what it is to be a “Pokemon Master,” a goal that he’s had since the very first episode of the series.

Long-time fans of the English dub of Pokémon, or even just those who've gone back to the beginning after watching more recent episodes, will surely notice that the voices of Ash and the rest of the cast aren't the same as they used to be. While that might seem like a natural change over 25 years, the fact is that the show at one point dumped its entire voice actors cast for very controversial reasons.
The Pokémon anime was originally dubbed by 4Kids Entertainment, a now-defunct company that localized many anime series, repackaging them for younger children, much to the chagrin of certain fans. While many fans had their bones to pick with 4Kids, they quickly grew used to the existing voice cast. That's why there was an uproar in 2006 when it came about that 4Kids was losing the license to Pokémon, and that a plan was in place to recast...

Say it ain’t so! Fans of Pokémon are still coming to terms with the idea that Ash Ketchum and his longtime partner Pikachu are finishing up their final adventures after a quarter of a century. Off the heels of the driven 10-year-old finally achieving his goal of becoming a World Champion in Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, special episodes later this year will mark the end of an era. For Sarah Natochenny, the English-language voice of Ash for the last 17 years, the thought of closing the Pokédex elicits many emotions. “It has been sad and odd because I was doing this since I was a teenager,” the now 35-year-old said of the news. “It’s a job I’ve had my entire adult life. Not revisiting Ash every week as an anchor point in my life is going to be strange… I’m not terribly worried I’ll have...

Anime is a medium that lends itself to series that run for hundreds or even thousands of episodes, but none have been able to generate the same success and enthusiasm as Pokémon. Pokémon has produced more than 1200 episodes, nearly two-dozen feature films, and it hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. Pokémon has featured plenty of changes throughout its 25-year run, but the one constant since the series’ start is that Ash and his humble Pokémon companion, Pikachu, have always acted as the anime’s guiding light. Pokémon is ready for the ultimate makeover and 2023 will mark the farewell of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as Pokémon embraces a new cast of characters in the Paldea region.

Hot off the official drop of a promotional poster celebrating all the Pokémon Ash Ketchum trained during his 25-year quest to be the greatest trainer ever, comes an awesome piece of fan art depicting all the companions Ash has met, worked with, learned from, and taught over the same time span. It's a true commemoration of the tremendous influence Ash has had throughout the Pokémon universe.
While Ash Ketchum originally began his journey to be the greatest Pokémon trainer alone, over the years he's run into more than a few companions along the way. Although he had the ability to grind it out and fulfill his dreams without the help of others, it nevertheless is always easier to get by with a little help from some friends. Accordingly, Ash wasn't averse to collaborating with other would-be Pokémon trainers, and others, hoping, as he did to be something different tomorrow than what they were today.

The Pokémon anime is in for some big changes, and the series' current lead, Ash, will no longer be the protagonist of the series. Ash's voice actress, Sarah Natochenny, reacted to the news on Twitter, in response to the official Pokémon account's reveal of the news.
Sarah Natochenny has voiced Ash since 2006, when the entire cast of the 4Kids version of the dub was replaced by The Pokémon Company, who began dubbing the series themselves. Natochenny has always been enthusiastic about her role, and celebrated along with fans when Ash finally won the Alola Championships a few years ago, and then Pokémon's World Coronation Series just last month. While there has been much speculation about what may become of Ash now that he's won, the English dub's voice actors aren't really anymore in the know than the fans are.

Now that he’s officially become the very best, like no one ever was, Ash Ketchum is heading into retirement. The long-running and perpetually 10 year-old star of the beloved “Pokémon” anime will exit the series with an upcoming 11-episode run airing in Japan this January, the Pokémon Company announced Friday.
In his place, two new protagonists, Liko and Roy, will be introduced in a new series set in the Paldea region, first seen in this year’s Generation IX “Pokémon” games “Scarlet and Violet.” The series will premiere sometime later in 2023, and feature the starters from the game: Sprigatito (a grass cat), Fuecoco (a fire-breathing crocodile baby), and Quaxly (a water duck).

Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” starring Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd, along with a quick glimpse at the classic characters played by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
Murray, Akroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Ramis were a part of the original 1984 hit, along with its sequel “Ghostbusters II” in 1989. After Ramis’ death in 2014, it was unclear if a third installment with the original cast was going to take place.
Sony produced an all-female reimagining of the film in 2016, starring Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy. After that installment underperformed at the box office, Sony brought on Jason Reitman as co-writer and director for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” who brought in a younger cast and got the original stars to agree to being part of the film.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” will also feature Shelby Young and Sarah Natochenny in voice acting roles.
