Sean studied the Meisner approach at the Ward Studio and The People's Improv Theater, after graduating from New York University Gallatin School with concentrations in Art and Social Action. He also enrolled in the Integrated Media Art program at Hunter College, where he engaged in documentary journalism, emerging social media, immersive technology, and video post-production.
While at Hunter he supplemented his education with day player roles in mid-budget romantic comedies and commercial work. Sean has played a broad range of supporting roles in several award-winning shorts and was the lead in the first-ever two-way narrative tie at the Student Academy Awards for the short 16mm film, Mr. A (2008), a Columbia University graduate thesis directed by Joe Murphy (Barbare (2022)).
In 2015, he left New York after filming a commercial for Calvin Klein directed by David Fincher, where his role was upgraded, allowing him to focus full-time on his career in Portland, Oregon.
A notable TV break as a co-star role as Rachel Bloom's personal date coach in the IFC sketch series No Thank You (2018), followed by a string of co-star roles and a recurring co-star role in the ground-breaking Emmy-winning comedy series, Shrill (2019), where he portrayed a beleaguered journalist at the fictional alternative weekly newspaper until the show's final season in 2021. Sean continued to work throughout that period despite the challenges of a global pandemic, appearing in smaller independent films such as Pig (2021), directed by Michael Sarnoski, and the dark romantic comedy La vie rêvée de Miss Fran (2023), which opened Sundance in 2023.
Other TV credits made in Portland, include day roles on Grimm (2011) episode El Cuegle (2017) (NBC), Les as du braquage (2007) episode Operation: Fighting Shape (2007) (ABC), and the Coolness (2009) episode of Important Things with Demetri Martin (2009) (Comedy Central). He has appeared in numerous internal and in-house ads for many global firms and ad agencies based in the Pacific Northwest including a gin ad with Ryan Reynolds.
