Bethany Whitmore was born 7 December 1999 and is the youngest of two children. Bethany lived in the leafy suburbs of Melbourne before heading to Singapore where she attended Stamford American International School. Having returned to Melbourne in 2014, Bethany continued to pursue her passion for performing arts. In 2017 Bethany was nominated for Best Lead Actress for her role of Greta Driscoll in the acclaimed feature film Fantastic birthday (2015) by the Australian Film Critics Association & Film Critics Circle of Australia. In 2018 Bethany traveled to London on the 16th Street Actors Scholarship to train at the Royal Academy of Performing Arts in Shakespeare and also flew to Los Angeles as a 2018 top ten finalist for the prestigious 10th year anniversary Heath Ledger Scholarship #HLS10.

Bethany's first acting opportunity came when she was 6 years old, at her very first audition, she won the role of 5-year-old "Jaden" in the US miniseries The Starter Wife (2007), which stars Debra Messing, and Judy Davis.

Bethany was also the lead voice of 8-year-old Mary Daisy Dinkle in Academy Award Winning Director, Adam Elliot's feature film Mary et Max. (2009), starring opposite, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Toni Collette. Mary et Max. (2009) is now listed in the top IMDB 250 films of all time.

In 2012 Bethany starred as one of five teenage girls in P.J. Hogan's feature film Mental (2012), which also starred Toni Collette, Anthony LaPaglia, Liev Schreiber and Rebecca Gibney. Bethany played the role of 12-year-old redhead Jane Moochmore, the youngest of the five Moochmore girls.

In 2015 Bethany starred in the lead role of Greta Driscoll in the feature film Fantastic birthday (2015). A unique production based on the hugely successful Windmill Theatre play written by Matthew Whittet, Fantastic birthday (2015). Fantastic birthday (2015) had its International premiere as the opening night film in competition in the Generation 14plus Section at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2016/17 Bethany showed her comedic skills as Melissa Hills, in Season 1 & 2 of Matchbox Pictures/NBC Universal production of The Family Law (2016), a black comedy series that follows the story of a sprawling Chinese-Australian family, based on the memoirs of Benjamin Law. In 2019, Bethany's character Melissa took a more prominent role in the 3rd and final season of The Family Law (2016).

In 2018, Bethany was seen as the nemesis of Miranda, Irma and Marion as Blanche Gifford in the highly anticipated Foxtel/Fremantle Media production of the TV mini-series Picnic at Hanging Rock (2018), which also stars Natalie Dormer. Picnic at Hanging Rock will air on the US streaming platform Amazon.
