Biography

    • Larry Goldings' music has graced the soundtracks of many film and television projects of the past two decades. He contributed to the jazzy fabric of Clint Eastwood's "Space Cowboys" and enhanced John Madden's "Proof" and Judd Apatow's "Funny People" with original featured compositions. Goldings' Nino Rota-inspired score to Jeff Garlin's "Dealin' With Idiots" is the backdrop to this hilarious film about the zany parents of a Little League baseball team. In addition to composing and music supervision for "Dealin' With Idiots," his alt-rock co-write "Calm Me Down" with composer-performers Steve Nistor and Mike Viola is featured in the end credits. Listeners of NPR's "This American Life" can also hear Goldings' music underscoring many of its dramatic stories.

Goldings contributed his musical talents and arrangements on Hammond organ to the soundtrack of the animated film, "The Addams Family." His score to the Netflix series, "Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker," runs the gamut from 1900s ragtime to deconstructed hip hop, "illuminating the story in a sonic way" according to one of the producers. In addition to composing and performing the recurring themes heard throughout the series, Goldings also arranged, performed on, and produced several key period music tracks. Overall, the score helps give insight into story subtext, with music that has a timeless and also contemporary feel.

As performer and recording artist, Goldings is known for long-term collaborations that straddle the realms of jazz and pop with such artists as Jon Hendricks (Lambert, Hendricks & Ross), Jim Hall, Maceo Parker, John Scofield, Jack DeJohnette, Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, Sia Furler, Steve Gadd, John Mayer, and James Taylor. In 2007, Scofield/Goldings/DeJohnette's Trio Beyond - Saudades (ECM) was recognized with a Best Instrumental Jazz Album Grammy nomination for their searing live recording at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Goldings' composing palette draws from a deep understanding of harmony and many genres of music, borne of a lifetime of performing and absorbing jazz, pop, electronic and classical orchestral music.
