Guy Ritchie is without a doubt one of the most productive filmmakers working today, as he has already made six films since the beginning of the 2020s, with the two additional features “In the Grey” and “Wife & Dog” coming out soon. While Ritchie’s latest film, “Fountain of Youth,” is a cheap “Indiana Jones” rip-off that ranks as one of his worst efforts, it’s impressive how consistent he has been since his rather humble origins. The 1990s saw many young writer/directors trying to create their own style of twisty, dark comedic neo-noir crime thrillers that were influenced by the work that Quentin Taranntino did on “Pulp Fiction” and “Reservoir Dogs.” However, Ritchie crafted a uniquely British, haphazard style of storytelling that introduced the new subgenre of “underground London crime capers,” which has itself spawned many imitators.

Veterans Day is a federal holiday that honors the men and women who served.
Countless films have been made about their bravery, heroism and sacrifice.
Here are seven films to stream on Veterans Day this year:
“Saving Private Ryan”
Steven Spielberg’s ode to World War II veterans won five Oscars including Best Director for Spielberg — his second — while famously missing out on Best Picture to “Shakespeare in Love.” It is a visceral, emotional story of a group of soldiers, led by Tom Hanks, who are tasked with finding a private after the invasion of Normandy and bringing him home. Through their journey, Spielberg showcases the perspectives of everyone touched by the war, and the many different kinds of soldiers who fought for their country.
“Saving Private Ryan” is streaming on Paramount+ and Fubo.
“1917” (2019)
Sam Mendes directs this harrowing tale of survival. When the British army receives vital intel about German battle plans,...

Guy Ritchie is known for movies like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch, black comedy movies that don’t shy away from showing death but manage to keep it light throughout. His 2023 movie, The Covenant, about the US Army’s occupation of Afghanistan before their exit in 2021 is on a different level, however. The movie is grim and shows the gritty reality of the once-beautiful nation, which is now a hub of terrorism operated by the Taliban. In such a nation, US Army sergeant John Kinley forms a bond with an Afghan interpreter, Ahmed Abdullah, and the movie shows how each man saves the other from death, paying each other’s debt. Today we look at John Kinley and his determination to save the life of the man who dragged him out of death’s door, Ahmed Abdullah.
