Joy Maria Bai

German-Korean actress Joy Maria Bai was born in Bonn, Germany to Korean parents. Early during her school years, she gained her first stage experience and was subsequently accepted into the German theater initiative Theater Total.
She later became the first student of Korean descent to be admitted to a state-run drama school in Germany, the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich. Shortly after completing her training there, she studied the Meisner Technique at the William Esper Studio in New York.
Her stage career has taken her to Zurich, Dresden, and Munich, and she portrayed Madame Butterfly - a role marked by quiet strength and emotional depth, which earned her the renowned Götz Friedrich Prize.
On screen, she continues to show versatility and presence, appearing in productions such as Wild, Cut Off, Tatort, and Einstein. Her most recent leading role was in the 2025 independent film Fantasy of Love.
