A horror comedy called The Invisible Raptor had its world premiere at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival and then made the festival rounds for a year. For a while, the film had a 100% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes – and even though that number has gotten lower since The Invisible Raptor received a theatrical and digital release (courtesy of Well Go USA) back in December, the audience score is still at 93%. Now, the film is set to reach Blu-ray on February 4th (copies can be pre-ordered Here), and ahead of that release, a trio of clips have been unveiled. You can watch one in the embed above and two more at the bottom of this article.
Directed by Mike Hermosa from a screenplay by Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham, The Invisible Raptor has the following synopsis: After a top-secret experiment goes wrong, a hyper-intelligent invisible raptor escapes the lab and begins wreaking havoc in the surrounding neighborhood.

You Are Not Me (Tú no eres yo) understands the anxiety of holiday family gatherings. It weaponizes it and taps into the fear of rejection and the paranoia stemming from not being loved enough — or at least not in the way one wants. Such is the case for Aitana (Roser Tapias), who’s visiting her parents for Christmas with partner Gabi (Yapoena Silva) and adopted son in tow. Naturally, she expects a warm welcome but her parents — Dori (Pilar Almería) and Oriol (Álvaro Báguena) — are not excited to see her and are put off by her surprise appearance.
The Thriller Plays Up The Anxiety Of Aitana’s Situation
Writer-directors Marisa Crespo and Moisés Romera build tension through this complex family relationship. Things get especially heated as Aitana learns her parents have taken in Nadia (Anna Kurikka), a refugee-turned-caretaker for Aitana’s brother (Jorge Motos), and are treating her like more...

Ever since Steven Spielberg adapted Michael Criction's iconic novel, Jurassic Park has remained the template for the dinosaur genre in film, with everything else either parodying or homaging the 1993 Oscar winner. Amidst the crowd, there have been a variety of movies with their tongues planted firmly in their cheeks, which Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham's The Invisible Raptor aims to be, and yet the seemingly self-aware feature finds itself way too bogged down by its underwhelming script.

Those who grew up watching FX-heavy seriocomic mainstream creature features of the 1980s and ’90s may enjoy the nostalgic fun had at their expense in “The Invisible Raptor.” Viewers resistant to a landslide of scatological humor, however, may find the laughs pretty slim in this overlong, uninspired monster spoof. Director Mike Hermosa’s indie feature is enterprisingly polished, but the weak material provided by Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham’s screenplay might’ve worked better boiled down to the length of a “Funny or Die” short. After a run of genre festival gigs, it’s being launched by Well Go USA on limited screens and digital platforms Dec. 6.

The "Velociraptor Horror" bar is pretty low outside Universal’s Jurassic franchise. All Mike Hermosa's The Invisible Raptor had to outperform are titles like Area 407, Jim Wynorski's Raptor, or The VelociPastor. On that scale, The Invisible Raptor proves more competent than other prehysterical B-movies that you might find on the Syfy channel after midnight. It's selling what's on the tin — a goofy creature feature with an unseen raptor and more Jurassic Park references than Comic Con. If that sounds like brainless fun, you're (mostly) in luck!
Mike Capes stars as Dr. Grant Walker (red bandana and all), a disgraced paleontologist who now works for a dinosaur amusement park. He's down on his luck, but Dr. Walker jumps into action when an invisible velociraptor escapes its top-secret facility cage. With the help of DinoWorld's redneck security guard Deniel 'Denny' Denielson (David Shackelford) and his former lover Amber (Caitlin McHugh), Dr.

Dumb comedies come in several varieties. The worst are those that don’t realize what a mess they’re making before unleashing them on unsuspecting viewers. The others are intentionally designed to be stupid, and can range from brilliant to moderately amusing. Invisible Raptor falls within the last group. The title alone tells you where it’s headed, so here’s how to watch it:
Step one is to suspend a heaping dung-load of disbelief as to whether such a creature could exist, and why the hell any scientists would raise it. Once you leap that hurdle and buy the premise, you know what must occur. It will escape and start chomping the local populace, while a handful of feckless protagonists stumble around trying to contain or kill it. No mystery as to what must occur, but there are...

Creature features come in all shapes and sizes, as the subgenre of horror lends itself to risks that other films can't take. Case in point is The Invisible Raptor, a film that's pretty self-explanatory but deceptively charming, with its clever jokes and overt gore. A paleontogist's quest to capture the title character is the perfect homage to classic creature features, from the Jaws franchise to Jurassic Park.

It takes an incredible amount of intelligence to get a film as gleefully stupid as The Invisible Raptor to work. Yes, it’s Jurassic Park on one hundredth of the budget, with a giant empty space where the dinosaurs should be; hilarity is more than likely to ensue, running off just that pitch alone. But despite what much of the low-budget genre market would have you believe, one good joke does not make a film. Something which thankfully, director Mike Hermosa and writers Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham well and truly take to heart here, doubling down on absolutely everything around their bloodthirsty – and yes, totally invisible – mega beastie.
A chuckle-worthy, Sean Astin-starring cold open definitely sets the tone; outrageous gore, parody-level Spielberg gags, surprisingly decent production design. But it’s when Capes himself appears on the scene as dashing, fedora-sporting lead Dr. Grant Walker, that we start to...

Nerdist and Legendary Digital Networks’ streaming service, Alpha, have commissioned a new sci-fi series starring Yuri Lowenthal, which will be performed and streamed live to audiences each week, Variety has learned exclusively.
The show, entitled “Orbital Redux,” will stream eight episodes weekly beginning Sept. 27.
“We are always looking for new challenges and ways to change up the narrative, and this project combines these elements, aligning with Alpha’s mission to immerse members in our content and give them an experience they can’t get anywhere else,” says Johnny Wickham, vice president of development, Legendary Digital Networks.
“Orbital Redux” follows Lowenthal’s Zachery “Max” Levodolinksy, who is described as “a former astronaut navigating life after Nasa runs out of funding, removing all the thrilling, heroic jobs.” The story picks up when Max is tasked with teaching a new pilot (Yasmine Al-Bustami) the ropes of the space program. Ashley Clements’ “Sona” space-drama series — a labor of love that was shot mostly in her L.A. apartment — premieres today on Legendary Digital Networks’ Alpha subscription streaming service.

Legendary’s Alpha, which has exclusive rights to “Sona” for six months, will release new episodes of the eight-part series on a weekly basis each Wednesday. The show is available at watch.sonaseries.com.
Set in a future where aliens are no longer welcome on Earth, the show stars Clements as Lt. Big surprise! There’s another kinda uber-short-form original anthology web series that I’m in like with. This one comes from Break.com and Ted Raimi’s Spooky Voodoo Pictures and may very well scare you a little if you give it a few seconds. Morbid Minutes is comprised of 10 or so episodes of 160 or so seconds of dramatic buildup of sorta terrifying tension followed by 20 seconds of sometimes horrific release. There are a lot of qualifiers in that last sentence because, while all the Morbid Minutes aren’t scream-out-loud scary, they either have the semblance of scariness or a at least healthy serving of early 1980s schlock. That the production value of the installments looks to be on par with Evil Dead may be no coincidence. Ted Raimi is Evil Dead (and Spiderman) director Sam Raimi’s little bro. Surely one of big bro's and the horror genre's most...
