        Served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965-69 . In 1967 he deployed to Vietnam with a newly formed unit, the 1st Searchlight Battery. The Battery was attached to the 12th Marine Regiment (artillary). There were 18 searchlights in the Battery and were deployed across the I Corps area (roughly from Da Nang to the DMZ) . The Battery was in 38 combat operations. He was awarded the Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon for his service in Vietnam.
