David Blaine Has One More (Deadly) Trick Up His Sleeve
Image
David Blaine greets me not with a trick but an apology.

I’m standing backstage with the famed magician and endurance-stunt artist at Wynn Las Vegas, the resort casino where he recently renewed a residency through 2026. Dressed in his trademark black, Blaine offers a warm hello and says he’s sorry the show no longer features its big opener — which involves him leaping from an 80-foot-high platform and landing on a pile of cardboard boxes on the stage.

The last time he attempted the stunt — on March 11, 2023 — he painfully landed on his shoulder. When he stood up, his arm was drooping from its socket. The audience thought his moans were all part of the act. Then they realized he was seriously injured.

Blaine’s brain has never been studied by science. But as his physical stunts — nothing illusory about them — have repeatedly demonstrated, his capacity for hurt appears to dwarf that of most humans.

Hot dog champ Joey Chestnut still has beef with Takeru Kobayashi
Image
Last Updated on March 3, 2025

In the world of competitive eating, there are really only two names that reign supreme: Joey and Nathan. However, even though Takeru Kobayashi has apparently retired for real this time, you can believe his legions of fans are still defending him. But for Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, Kobayashi is no longer the “Tsunami” that he once was.

Kobayashi recently took to social media to give a little more background on his 2024 Netflix showdown with Chestnut, arguing the event was a misrepresentation of skills. “I suggested that the title of the Netflix retirement match be changed from a match to decide the strongest or best food fighter in the world to a competition to decide the strongest hot dog champion, because I thought it would be a distortion of the facts to decide that becoming the hot dog champion would make you the world’s strongest food fighter.

Beetlejuice 2's Failed Cameo With World-Record Hot Dog Eater Would Have Fulfilled A Missing Afterlife Detail
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Beetlejuice 2!Tim Burton set his sights on a certain celebrity for a cameo role in Beetlejuice 2, which would have also solved a major mystery surrounding the afterlife. The Beetlejuice franchise's Neitherworld is explored on a grander scale in Burton's sequel, expanding the realm and introducing new faces who work down there. Of course, the return of the afterlife also paves the way for more new characters in Beetlejuice 2, including those who have died in very strange ways. Aside from Juno and Miss Argentina, most of the dead are seen as ghosts in the Neitherworld waiting room, but that part of the lore gets an upgrade in the sequel.

Between Beetlejuice and Beetlejuice 2, Betelgeuse became an Afterlife Call Center Manager with his own office of workers, who also happen to be "Shrinkers." The waiting room still exists, which Charles and Delia both visit after their respective deaths,...

Netflix in Talks to Stream ‘Hot Ones’ Live Shows
Image
As Netflix looks to bolster its live event programming, the streamer is in talks with BuzzFeed Inc. to stream live episodes of “Hot Ones,” TheWrap has learned.

While the negotiations are in the early stages, the scenario being discussed would see Sean Evans host several live episodes of the popular YouTube talk series created specifically for Netflix.

The show, which currently streams on Hulu and Peacock, puts celebrities in the hot seat as they eat increasingly spicy wings while being interviewed by Evans. Notable celebrities who have appeared include Sydney Sweeney, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Conan O’Brien, Elizabeth Olsen, Jennifer Lawrence, Paul Rudd, Vince Vaughn, Margot Robbie and Ariana Grande.

Netflix and BuzzFeed declined to comment.

The discussions come as Netflix has expanded its line-up of live programming in recent years as part of an effort to scale its ad tier and continue to grow its overall viewership and subscriber base.

Joey Chestnut's New 2024 World Record Explained: How Many Hot Dogs He Ate Against Kobayashi & Comparison To Past Contests
Image
Competitive eater Joey Chestnut set a new world record in Netflix's live special Chestnut v. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef. The event was streamed live on September 2, 2024, exclusively on Netflix from the HyperX Arena at the Luxor in Las Vegas. Chestnut, now 40 years old from Fulton County, Kentucky, is ranked as the number one competitive eater in the world by Major League Eating. He is a 16-time champion of the annual Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest that takes place each year in Coney Island, New York, losing only one time in 2015 between 2007 and 2023.

Chestnut did not participate in the 2024 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for the first time in 17 years due to a contractual dispute over a sponsor between him and Major League Eating. In any event, Chestnut was still able to put on a show during a major American holiday by squaring off head-to-head with one of...

Joey Chestnut Breaks His Own Hot Dog-Eating Record for Labor Day Netflix Special
Image
Joey Chestnut set another hot dog-eating world record on Labor Day against his rival, Takeru Kobayashi. The competitors faced off for the first time in 14 years for Netflix’s “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef” special, where Chestnut took down 83 hot dogs while Kobayashi finished 66.

Chestnut bested himself on Monday, after most recently setting the world record in 2021 when he ate 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes. This time around, he hit the 76-sausage mark after only eight minutes and 45 seconds.

The Labor Day special was a big one for fans of the niche sport, which typically is a big deal around the 4th of July. For one, it marked a rematch between these two legends — though Chestnut and Kobayashi are known to be two of the top names in the game, it had been 14 years since they competed against each other. The duo reunited at the HyperX Arena Las Vegas.

We Have A Weiner In Netflix’s Joey Chestnut vs. Kobayashi Hot Dog Eating Contest
Image
Nothing like the human drama of athletic-ish competition. A career rivalry was revived today as Netflix hosted a hot dog-eating contest pitting two of the pseudo-sport’s legends — and the result was a world record.

Joey Chestnut finished off Takeru Kobayashi in the streamer’s live-airing Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, choking down a record-smashing 83 hot dogs and buns to Kobayashi’s 66 during the 10-minute chowdown. The previous mark was 76.

Chestnut pocketed the $100,000 prize in the first time the two longtime adversaries had squared off against each other in 15 years. The event was hosted by Nikki Garcia and Rob Riggle.

Nikki Garcia Back At Work Hosting ‘Unfinished Beef’ For Netflix After Husband Artem Chigvintsev Arrested In Domestic Violence Incident
Image
Three days after her husband Artem Chigvintsev was arrested in Northern California and taken into custody after a domestic violence incident, Nikki Garcia showed up live on Netflix today to host Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef alongside Rob Riggle.

The special that was shot in Las Vegas was a hot dog-eating contest between the two competitive-eating rivals Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. An audience member yelled “I love you” to Garcia, who was introduced by Riggle as “an accomplished athlete herself, a WWE Hall of Famer.”

Wearing an all-red ensemble but no wedding ring, Garcia kicked off the special by saying she was “happy to be here.”

Chigvintsev was booked Thursday in Napa County on California penal code 273.5(a), which makes it illegal to injure a spouse, cohabitant or fellow parent in an act of domestic violence. His bail was set at $25,000, according to jail records. No other information was provided on the incident.

‘Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef’: Netflix’s Hot Dog-Eating Contest Special Was an Only-in-America Spectacle
Image
Netflix’s “Unfinished Beef,” a live competitive-eating special follows in the plodding footsteps set forth by the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, the July 4 spectacular on Coney Island. But what it recalled even more vividly were the human-interest freakouts Fox aired around the turn of the century, like “Man vs. Beast” and “Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire?” Broadcast live on Labor Day from Las Vegas, the competition between pro hot-dog eaters Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi had more than a whiff of only-in-America decadence and excess.

The special, which ran a little over an hour, built to the 10-minute showdown between Chestnut and Kobayashi, including short, produced packages introducing both parties to the viewer. “I love putting an obscene amount of food in me. It’s what I love doing,” Chestnut told viewers, demonstrating the exercises he performs to keep his jaw strong.

Joey Chestnut Wins Netflix’s Live Labor Day Hot Dog Eating Competition

Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi settled some unfinished beef.

In Netflix’s live streaming event hosted on Labor Day, Sep. 2 by Rob Riggle and Nikki Garcia, competitive eaters Chestnut and Kobayashi battled once again for the first time in 15 years. The winner was awarded $100,000 and presented with a WWE-made custom championship title belt.

Despite Kobayashi once revealing plans for retirement but wanting to battle his longtime rival again, Chestnut was revealed as the champion with 83 hot dogs eaten.

“I’ve been trying to hit 80 hot dogs for years,” Chestnut said before crediting Kobayashi for stirring the competitive nature out of him. “He drives me. We weren’t always nice to each other but we push each other to be our best.”

“I feel like I did everything I could,” Kobayashi said of the loss.

The 50-second teaser has everything — and by everything, we mean dramatic narration, booming orchestral music, and some extreme close-ups of hot dogs dripping with what is presumably hot dog water and not sweat. “To be the greatest, it takes hunger few understand,” the narrator bellows.

The aptly-titled bout, “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef,” will be...

Joey Chestnuts Net Worth May Change After Being Banned From Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
Image
Joey Chestnut's net worth dipped from $4m to $3m after being banned from Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. Chestnut's main earnings are through sponsors and not just contest winnings, which will be affected by the ban. Chestnut can redeem himself in a Netflix live event with Takeru Kobayashi and potentially elevate his net worth.

A Fourth of July tradition for many is the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. While it has been in the same location on Coney Island since 1972, it was not until the 1990s that the contest really started taking off when contestants started shattering records. One of those contestants was Joey Chestnut. But, with Joey being banned from the 2024 hot dog-eating contest, not only is his title up for grabs, but his net worth will likely change as well.

While Joey takes home a cash prize from the eating contest each year, the bulk of Joey's fortune is from sponsors.

This was due to Chesnut having a sponsorship with Impossible Foods, which Major League Eating deemed a “rival brand.” Chesnut took to X to express his frustrations, writing, “I was gutted to learn from the media that after 19 years...

Is Netflix The New ‘Ocho’ Of Live Pseudo-Sports? Chestnut Vs. Kobayashi Will Settle The Beef On Who Can Inhale The Most Hot Dogs
Image
On the heels of its upcoming live bout between over-the-hill boxing great Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul, Netflix has taken another turn toward becoming The Ocho of live sporting contests.

Netflix will stream a winner-take-all hot-dog-eating contest on Labor Day between reigning Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champ Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, the venerable hot dog chomper Chestnut unseated. The event is being called Chestnut Vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, and while they’ve settled on September 2, they’ll announced venue and time later on.

Chestnut’s the world record-holder for eating 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, and he has won the July 4 Coney Island event eight years in a row. If he’s Muhammad Ali of hot dog gorging, his Joe Frazier would be Kobayashi, who put the “sport” on the map in 2001 when he doubled the amount consumed by the past winner, his first of six Hot Dog Eating titles.

Unfinished Beef: Netflix Sets Live Labor Day Hot Dog Eating Bout Between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi
Image
Netflix is officially getting into the competitive eating business.

The streaming giant says that it will host a live streaming event on Labor Day, Sep. 2, featuring two legends of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest: Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi.

The live special will be called Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, with the location and specific timing still Tbd. One thing that Netflix has confirmed: The hot dogs will be all-beef.

The two competitive eaters battled each other for years in the annual Nathan’s contest, but the last time they competed head to head was in 2009, when Chestnut beat Kobayashi in a five hot dog sudden death eat-off.

Chestnut is a 16-time Nathan’s winner (including the last eight years), but was not allowed to participate this year after inking a sponsorship agreement with Impossible Foods, which recently released a plant-based dog. His absence from the event...
