Disney+ has set 16 July 2025 for the launch of Low Life, rolling out the first three episodes of the 11-part drama on day one and dropping two new instalments every Wednesday until a two-episode finale on 13 August.
The period crime series, directed and co-written by The Outlaws filmmaker Kang Yoon-sung, adapts the webtoon by Misaeng creator Yoon Tae-ho and is set against the real-life 1977 rumour of an Imperial Chinese shipwreck off Korea’s Sinan coast. Disney’s synopsis teases “everyday Koreans struggling to survive” who are lured to the sea by hidden treasure.
Ryu Seung-ryong leads as small-time grifter Oh Gwan-seok, joined by Yang Se-jong as his nephew Hee-dong and Im Soo-jung as hard-nosed industrialist Yang Jeong-suk, with veteran actors Kim Eui-sung and Kim Sung-oh among the supporting cast.
Newly released stills show Ryu in wide-collared 1970s garb, staring down a desk “with the intense gaze of a man who will stop at nothing for money,...

Disney+ has landed exclusive live streaming rights to the UEFA Women’s Champions League soccer tournament across Europe in a five-year pact covering the 2025/26 through 2029/30 seasons.
The deal makes Disney+ the sole destination for all 75 matches in the competition, with coverage launching in October alongside the tournament’s new 18-team League phase format. All matches will stream live at no additional cost to subscribers through the 2026 final at Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo.
ESPN will handle production duties for Disney+, providing multi-language commentary and pre- and post-game programming. The sports network brings four-and-a-half decades of broadcasting experience to the project, having recently added UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League coverage to Disney+ in Denmark and Sweden.
The announcement builds on Disney’s existing partnership with UEFA through the Playmakers program, which has introduced over 132,000 girls aged 5-8 to soccer across 6,300 centers in 46 countries since 2020. The initiative, recently extended through 2027, employs nearly 8,000 coaches.

Best episodes lists often tend to be dominated, these days, by the flashy, format-breaking standalone installments that most great prestige programs seem to unveil once or twice per season.
Our list does, indeed, include a couple of those. We’ve got flashbacks, tonal detours and feature-length episodes that reframe everything we thought we understood about the season or the shows themselves. But we also have some a couple of premieres, a finale or two and just some darned good regular episodes representing the best that the shows have to offer, rather than trying out something new or different. We’ve got animation, documentary and foreign television, plus some comedies, some dramas and whatever The Bear is.
Please note that no matter what the headline here says, this isn’t precisely a “best episodes” list at all. If a show made either of our respective Top 10 lists, we deemed it ineligible...

One of the best superhero shows on television, with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, just got a massive update about its Disney+ future. The streaming service is known for being the home of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and along with the Dcu, the two franchises have dominated superhero stories for over a decade. But as the super-powered subgenre has been viewed as a safe bet that will draw audiences, there have been inspired attempts to really grapple with the kind of narratives that are told within that realm.
Some of those attempts come from within Marvel and DC, with The Penguin and Agatha All Along, standing out as two adaptations that break the mold. But many more worthwhile stories approach the subgenre even more daringly, such as the HBO moviemaking satire The Franchise and the Hulu dark comedy Extraordinary. But one of the most successful series of 2023 just got a massive update,...

Utilizing violence and gore tastefully but effectively in sci-fi TV shows can be difficult, as there needs to be a balance between the intense action scenes and the character-driven breaks in the tension. However, one of the most fun parts of contemporary television is how much can be achieved in creating graphic violence through both practical and CGI effects. While blood-soaked thrillers aren't for all audiences, they're extraordinarily fun, and these TV shows hit home for viewers who love seeing a story's beats expressed through visceral chills. Understanding that gore is for both serious and comedic effects is crucial.
There are recent sci-fi shows that didn't deserve to be canceled that provided plenty of graphic action sequences that kept viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the episodes. When introducing intense violence, a series usually takes one of two routes. Either the sudden gore is shocking and punctuates a particularly devastating scene,...

In 2016, a South Korean zombie movie called Train to Busan took the world by storm. The highest-grossing domestic release of that year now holds a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, proving its international appeal. However, not all fans know that the film is part of a series and the story begins with creator Yeon Sang-ho's animated feature Seoul Station. Where Train to Busan disarmed audiences with its combination of gory violence and heartwarming drama, Seoul Station's hard-hitting social commentary makes it a much more intense viewing experience.
Train to Busan features a selfish businessman who finally learns to prioritize his family during the crisis, offering a general critique of capitalist greed. Meanwhile, the deeply flawed stars of Seoul Station struggle with extreme disadvantages disability, mental illness, poverty and homelessness and their stories forcefully confront serious political issues despite the film's fantastical premise and the abstracting effect of animation.

In this era of bounteous streaming series, a steady stream of cinematically-released films, internet oddities and beyond, you’d be forgiven for thinking that nearly every story has, at this point, been told already. And then something comes along to remind you that there are still original ideas left in the world: like, what if there was a show in which a human woman was turned by a machine into a chicken nugget, leaving her father and an intern who has a crush on her to try and turn her back into a human? That sound you hear is Joseph Campbell’s brain exploding. This is the premise of a new Netflix series titled – you guessed it – Chicken Nugget, and it comes from South Korean writer-director Lee Byeong-heon. Check out the wild trailer here:
Well… there it is. Your standard woman-becomes-chicken-nugget show. It is – in a glorious turn of phrase...
