Let's Talk About Superman's CGI Upper Lip in Justice League Because, You Know, It Was The Worst!
Look, I enjoyed Justice League. It was a fun and entertaining film. But, there's one major aspect of the film that bugged the living hell out of me! It was Superman's CGI upper lip!

When Henry Cavill was brought in for reshoots with Joss Whedon, he had to grow out a mustache for his role in the next Mission: Impossible film. Unfortunately, he was contractually obligated not to shave it, so Warner Bros. had to spend a shit-ton of money to remove it digitally.

It was even more unfortunate that it turned out to be some of the worst CGI in a major big-budget film that I've seen in a long time. As much as I enjoyed how the character of Superman was handled, that CGI upper lip was super freakin' distracting, creepy looking, and laughably bad. When previously talking about reshooting his Superman scenes with his mustache, Cavill told...

Entertainment News: Hail Hail Rocker Chuck Berry, Who Dies at 90
St. Charles County, Mo – One of rock and roll music’s last living pioneers, Chuck Berry, was found dead in his home in St. Charles County, Missouri, on Mar. 18, 2017. He was the “Father of Rock ‘n Roll” for his hit songs in the 1950s, but Berry was also known for his controversies and live concert style. He was 90 years old.

Berry, along with Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and others in the 1950s, established the style of songs that influenced a generation of rock artists, including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and virtually any other guitar hero who had to learn Berry’s song “Johnny B. Goode” to get to the next level. His most productive period came in Chicago, when he recorded songs that he wrote for Chess Records on the near south side. John Lennon once said, “If you tried to give rock and roll another name,...

How Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" Helped Define 'Back to the Future'
"This is an oldie, but uh … well, it's an oldie where I come from."

That's Marty McFly, one of the most beloved characters in film history, referring to Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" before bringing down the house with it at his parents' high school prom. Chuck Berry Appreciation: Hail to the True Creator of Rock Music and Attitude
Chuck Berry
Long ago, Chuck Berry became part of the furniture. We stopped thinking about him, even when we heard his songs — they were just there to be taken for granted, as comfortable as an old armchair and no more surprising. Ho-hum, there’s “Johnny B. Goode,” “Roll Over Beethoven,” “Maybellene,” “Rock and Roll Music” and all the others. It’s almost impossible to listen to them now and get any inkling of the revolution they once represented; in fact, they’re so familiar that it’s hard to even really hear them anymore as anything more than sonic wallpaper. But make no mistake: If Chuck.

Michael J. Fox in Retour vers le futur (1985)
An appreciation of ‘Back to the Future’ from Jennette McCurdy and Sam Witwer
Michael J. Fox in Retour vers le futur (1985)
“Back to the Future” has die-hard fans all around the world (a fact probably more evident today, on the long-awaited October 21, than on any other day). And the beloved comedy sci-fi flick has no shortage of famous fans. Among those famous fans are “Being Human” and “Battlestar Galactica” actor Sam Witwer, “Hatchet” writer-director Adam Green and “iCarly" alum Jennette McCurdy, whose latest project is the Netflix series “Between.” All three told HitFix a bit about why they adore the 1985 movie about a 17-year-old kid and his tale of temporal displacement. McCurdy watches “Back to the Future” on her birthday every year, and one year she had an Enchantment Under the Sea-themed birthday party. “I even play the soundtrack in my car if I’m driving around on my birthday,” she said. The 23-year-old actress has a slew of “Back to the Future” collectables, including Marty and Doc bobbleheads, a DeLorean keychain,...

Everything you ever wanted to know about the iconic ‘Johnny B. Goode’ scene in ‘Back to the Future’
Isaac Hanson, Taylor Hanson, Zac Hanson, and Hanson
The gym of the Hollywood United Methodist Church is dressed to the nines. Paper and foam fish hang from the ceiling. Blue and silver streamer curtains line the walls. A statue of Poseidon towers over tables strewn with punch bowls. About 100 people add a rainbow’s array of color to the gym with 1950s-era dresses and suits. But they’re not doing the hand jive or the bop – they’re busting out their ’80s moves as the band plays Whodini’s 1984 funk-rap song “Freaks Come Out At Night.” The scene is a nighttime shoot in mid-March 1985 on the set of “Back to the Future.” Harry Waters Jr., who played Marvin Berry, the leader of the band at the dance, recalled the surreal experience of jamming with contemporary songs in between takes for a gym full of extras in 30 years out-of-date clothes. “It was a party! It was entirely too much fun,...

30th Anniversary Reissue Of Back to the Future: Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack Double-Vinyl Picture Disc Available On October 21
Thirty years after the release of Robert Zemeckis’ beloved time-travel feature film, Back to the Future, we still don’t have hover skateboards nor DeLorean’s for that matter, but the Chicago Cubs may be on the verge of a World Series for the first time since 1908.

Perhaps the best news of all, a 30th anniversary reissue of the original Back to the Future: Music from the Motion Picture soundtrack will be reissued as a special, double-vinyl picture disc by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) on October 21.

The image on Side A is a recreation of the original album cover, while Side B sports a view of the digital clock ticking inside Doc Brown’s time-tripping DeLorean, with the meter set at the current release date, making this a valued collector’s item.

The original Back to the Future album, which came out July 8, 1985 right after the movie hit theaters on July 3, was a hit,...

Songs On Screen: All week Hitfix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out the full series here. Last month when we did our Best Year in Film History series, I picked second and, as a result, I was able to select the correct answer: The best year in American cinematic history, at least over the last 50 years, is 1974 and any disagreements sadden and bore me. With that undeclared, but indisputable, victory in my back pocket, I was able to happily let colleagues choose many of my personal favorites for our Songs on Screen battle. You won't hear me say anything negative about "Fight the Power" and its centrality to "Do the Right Thing" or the evocative pull of "Nobody Does It Better" (or a slew of other James Bond themes) or the timelessness of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Nor will...

Interview: John Cusack talks ‘Maps to the Stars’
He’s been a Hollywood star since his teens, when he starred in Class, Sixteen Candles and The Sure Thing, but thankfully John Cusack was never like the characters in David Cronenberg’s Maps To The Stars. A brutal satire about the players, wannabes and has-beens of Hollywood, Cusack plays Stafford Weiss, a self-help guru who peddles his therapies to the weak-minded. Father to the foul Benjie (Evan Bird), a rehab-hopping teen star of the ‘Bad Babysitter’ franchise, Stafford is just one of the soulless ghouls that haunts the Hollywood Hills in what is the Canadian Cronenberg’s first real foray into Tinseltown terrain.

For Cusack, it represents yet another impressive notch in a career that’s seen him work with Stephen Frears (The Grifters, High Fidelity), Woody Allen (Shadows and Fog, Bullets Over Broadway), Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich), Terence Malick (The Thin Red Line) and Clint Eastwood (Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil...

The Voice UK: Sharon, The Mac Bros - Who had the best audition?
The Voice UK is in its fourth week of blind auditions and things are getting serious. Well, sort of. I mean, there was still time for Sir Tom Jones and Ricky Wilson to gush about their blossoming bromance. But not much time, because fifteen acts tried to get those chairs spinning in tonight's show.

Ten of them made it through, too, making this a pretty packed instalment of blind auditions - but who made the biggest impression? Who will we be excited about seeing in the next round? Read on to find out what we thought of this week's auditionees...

1. Sharon Murphy

Song: 'Forever Young' - Bob Dylan

Team: Team Tom (Ricky also turned)

Sharon hasn't had the easiest of lives; she opened up in her pre-audition video about growing up in an orphanage and experiencing racism. She said that music is a "real solace" for her and wow,...

It's week four of blind auditions on The Voice and the show ain't messing around - we're getting fifteen acts taking to the stage this week in a bid to win an all-important chair spin from the coaches.

And if you want to know a little bit more about those 15 hopefuls, you're in luck, because we have all their pictures, song details and info. Read on for everything you need to know before Saturday night...

1. Tim Arnold - 39, London

Song: 'Running Up That Hill' - Kate Bush

What you need to know: Tim's mum is Polly Perkins who played Rose Cotton in EastEnders - June Brown is a close family friend. Tim also had a taste of success with Britpop band Jocasta in the '90s, but they were dropped on the day their album came out (way harsh). He's still working on music and recently recorded with Gary Kemp.

'Cosmos' review: Neil deGrasse Tyson brings brilliant science, questionable history to the world
"Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey" is one of the most interesting, accessible and beautiful pieces of scientific television to appear in decades -- basically since the original "Cosmos" with Carl Sagan. Revived by host (and astronomer) Neil deGrasse Tyson, Seth MacFarlane (yes, the "Family Guy" guy) and Ann Druyan (Sagan's widow), the new "Cosmos" aims to bring the universe's beauty and wonder to audiences.

Does it succeed?

As long as "Cosmos" sticks to the science it knows best, yes. "Cosmos" is almost as scientifically amazing as it is beautiful. This is no dry textbook -- it's a fun and informative look at the universe.

When "Cosmos" falters -- possibly fatally for some -- is in taking tentative steps away from science and into realms like history and religion. Possibly offensive to some, certainly confusing to many and occasionally inaccurate, "Cosmos" isn't so great in these areas.

But let's look at the show's considerable success first.

When hit genre movies become unlikely musicals
Feature Mark Harrison 3 Feb 2014 - 06:26

Does The Evil Dead make you want to break into song? Can you hum Back To The Future? Why are so many genre films being turned into musicals?

As much as the 2015 of Back To The Future Part II has been lampooned in internet memes, truth can sometimes be stranger than fiction. Is it entirely unreasonable to expect that 30 years from right now, we'll have flying cars, hoverboards and 19 Jaws movies? Maybe, maybe not.

Given their track record for accuracy, it's doubtful that Robert Zemeckis and co could ever have foreseen themselves doing a stage musical version of Back To The Future around the time of the film's 30th anniversary, but sure enough, they announced one last week. It's coming to the West End next year, as we reported here.

The Power Of Love, Earth Angel and Johnny B. Goode are all essential musical moments from the original film,...

A Back To The Future Musical is Coming to London in 2015
A Back to the Future stage musical has been talked about for a few years and and now it looks to be official. Back to the Future – The Musical will premiere in London’s West End in 2015 which marks the 30th anniversary of the 1985 movie. If it’s successful, there is hopes of a Broadway run if successful. Director Robert Zemeckis and his Back to the Future co-writer Bob Gale will write the book with Jamie Lloyd, who will direct the production. Original composer Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard will pen additional music and lyrics alongside songs from the movie like “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.”

The original crew back together after 30 years to make a stage adaption of one of the best movies ever made? They just sold a lot of tickets.

Bob Gale says [via Bttf.com]:

“The Back to the Future Musical is a project that...

Robert Zemeckis in La légende de Beowulf (2007)
'Back to the Future' musical in development for London run in 2015
Robert Zemeckis in La légende de Beowulf (2007)
It’s going against every instinct of mine not to begin this post with “Great Scott!”

Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale announced the development of a stage musical version of their 1985 classic Back to the Future, which will eye an opening bow on London’s West End in 2015—coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the film.

30 years is also how far back in time Marty McFly travels in a souped-up DeLorean in the original film (the first in the franchise which has since banked over $1.8 billion, adjusted for inflation).

Most of the players from the original film are involved—screenwriters...

Back to the Future ‘The Musical’ is Heading to the Stage 2015
Great Scott!! Bttf.com have been given confirmation from Universal that Back to the Future The Musical is set to hit the stage to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the greatest movie ever made (I may be somewhat biased there!).

According to the information, music will include those favourites from the movie by Huey Lewis & The News that appear in Back to the Future Part II and Part III. According to the report, London-based producer Colin Ingram who worked on Ghost – The Musical and Steve Spielberg himself will be working to develop the show brought to us by Universal Stage Productions who worked on the likes of Wicked and Billy Elliot.

Here’s what we know:

It will be produced with Donovan Mannato and Cj E&M. The new musical will have a book by Robert Zemeckis, Bob Gale and Jamie Lloyd, and new music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard,...

Back to the Future - The Musical Coming to London
Bob Gale
Marty McFly has been to the past and to the future, and now he’s headed to um... the West End. To celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary, Back To The Future – The Musical will premiere in London’s West End in 2015. If it’s successful, it will then have a run on Broadway. Original director Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale are writing for the production, with original composer Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard composing the music, which will still feature songs from the movie such as The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode. Bob Gale...

Random Acts of Music From Non-Musical Movies
Some of the greatest musical moments don’t even come from musicals, did you know that? Below you will find a list of some of my favorite random acts of music found in non-musical movies.

You’ve seen such moments in movies like My Best Friends Wedding [watch the scene] where a table of strangers will start singing (and they all know the words obviously). A less annoying example would be in The Big Chill where a group of friends cleans up the kitchen with a little help from The Temptations [watch the scene]. Did you notice that sometimes the music doesn’t even come from a source, it’s just there!

The random parades, dance floor choreography and romantic serenades, it’s just movie magic sometimes. My selection below of Random Acts of Music From Non-Musical Movies are some of my favorites, enjoy and comment or join us on Facebook and Twitter for a chin wag.

TV on Tap: Disney Enters a “Teen Beach Movie” and “Drop Dead Diva” Defends a Gay Baseball Player
News

TV Land has ordered 10 more episodes of The Exes, expanding the comedy’s third season and bringing more jokes about accidental homeroticsm to TV Land.

The Exes

Fox is planning a Family Guy crossover episode of The Simpsons where a road trip takes the Griffin family to Springfield, EW reports. Considering that dogs and babies don’t talk in the Simpsons universe, I’m figuring this is going to be more awkward than that time The Critic came to Springfield.

Remember Firefly, Bart? It’s back, in Pog multi-user online role-playing game for smartphones and tablets form. I have a bad feeling about this.

I have a weakness for big marketing stunts. I guess I just like the spectacle. (That’s probably why I spend this weekend every year with an ache in my chest.) Thus, I love the idea of leaving a sculpture of a dragon skull at...

Six Of The Best: The Directors – Robert Zemeckis
Just when it looked like we had lost Bob Zemeckis to performance capture forever, he allowed himself to be sucked back into “conventional” film-making with Flight, an undoubtedly impressive return to live action, with Denzel Washington scooping up another Oscar nomination as the compromised pilot who manages to land a stricken aeroplane despite flying three sheets to the wind.

Flight is out now on DVD and in honour of Zemeckis’ excellent resumé, we offer a consideration of some of his finest work as a Director, starting with the film (and franchise) that made his name.

1. Back To The Future

Goodness me, if ever there were a film that has entered the collective consciousness, this is it.

Even if you haven’t seen it (and surely everyone has?) you’d be familiar with “1.21 gigawatts”, “Great Scott!”, the Flux Capacitor and cinema’s most memorable rendition of Johnny B. Goode. Along with The Goonies,...

Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Tiffany Derry in Masterchef (2010)
The Most Brutal Elimination Ever
Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Tiffany Derry in Masterchef (2010)
Fox's "Masterchef" whittled the contestants down to the top 19 finalists this week, and judges Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliot didn't pull any punches during the eliminations -- some chefs got cut before they even finished cooking.

The A.V. Club noted that Joe moved through those contestants “like a shark,” while EW appreciated the judge's "blue steel" stares while he was crushing dreams.

Still, despite the herd being thinned, an early frontrunner emerged: Johnny B., a 28-year-old carpenter, made a splash with an unusual seafood dish -- lobster crackerjack -- featuring lobster, caramel, popcorn and coconut.

As Gordon put it, “That doesn’t read well on the menu [but] I’m forced to say it actually worked ... Absolutely delicious in a very weird, exciting way.”

"Masterchef" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Et on Fox.

Album Stream: Bhi Bhiman - Substitute Preacher
Bhi Bhiman, who has long been enthralling fans with imaginative cover songs at his live shows, is set to release his covers Ep Substitute Preacher on May 14. “The inspiration to do this covers record came from one song,” says Bhiman in the Ep’s liner notes. “It was ‘Walk of Life,’ by Dire Straits. I knew the song since being a kid, and I’ve always thought of it as Mark Knopfler’s nod to Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B. Goode.’ The song really rings true with me because, in a way, its my story too. So I started doing a live version,...

10 Movies That Couldn’t Get Time Travel Right
Time travel movies are among the most difficult to pull off of any genre; the tendency for time paradoxes and temporal anomalies to creep into the story is extremely high, and even the films that engage knowingly with these ideas usually end up imbued with more than a few logical issues.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of most of the films on this list, and I am generally able to look past time logic leaps because most of the time we wouldn’t have a very entertaining film without them, but there’s no questioning that the more pernickity of us love to pick apart time travel logic as though we’re experts on it…

Whether aware of their own paradoxes or not, here are 10 movies that, for all of their efforts, couldn’t get time travel right…

10. Back To The Future
