In Sean Cunningham's 1980 slasher "Friday the 13th," Jason Voorhees is little more than the subject of a notorious ghost story. Camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake, New Jersey, loved to scare young campers by telling them the very true story of the developmentally disadvantaged who wandered off and drowned in the lake decades earlier. It seems that the counselors who were tasked with caring for Jason were too busy copulating to notice he was in danger. Years later, however, counselors are suddenly being systematically murdered by an unseen assailant. Is it Jason returned from the grave, murdering counselors as revenge?
In the first "Friday," it was revealed that Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer), Jason's mother, had snapped and was killing counselors in honor of her dead son. In "Friday the 13th Part 2," however, it was revealed that Jason had been alive all along, and had grown to adulthood living in the woods,...

An interesting new rumor from insider Jeff Sneider suggests that actress Linda Cardellini might be in final talks to play Pamela Voorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake.
According to the report from TheInSneider, Cardellini is close to closing a deal to play the mother of the iconic slasher villain Jason Voorhees. As Friday the 13th viewers know, it was Pamela who put the entire plot of the story into motion as she was the real antagonist of the original 1980 film. The character was originated by Betsy Palmer, who passed away in May 2015.
Cardellini is best known for playing Velma in the live-action Scooby-Doo films along with her voice-acting work and her role as Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She also starred in the Emmy-nominated Netflix series Dead to Me and the more recent No Good Deed. Some of her other notable acting jobs include Freaks and Geeks,...

The long-gestating Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake that's in the works from A24 seems to be back on track after the departure of showrunner Bryan Fuller last year caused it to undergo a complete overhaul. Brad Caleb Kane, who recently wrapped production on the It prequel series Welcome to Derry, is now running the show, and we have our first bit of casting news that Linda Cardellini is in talks to play Pamela Voorhees.
The news comes by way of industry insider Jeff Sneider (via Bloody Disgusting), so take it with a grain of salt right now until it's been confirmed by other sources, but if true, Cardellini would be the first official cast member for Crystal Lake. First announced in 2022, the show is described as an "expanded prequel" to the popular slasher franchise, and will focus on not only Pamela, but her son Jason as well.

The Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, will further explore the origins of Jason Voorhees. Casting is underway, and a new report has hinted at who may be playing Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees, originally played by Betsy Palmer in the original Friday the 13th.
According to film industry insider Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Linda Cardellini is in talks to take on the role of Pamela Voorhees. The report has not been officially addressed by anyone involved with the production and is not confirmed at this point. There were previous reports that Charlize Theron was wanted for the role, though it's unclear if she was ever given an offer or in talks for the part. In 2022, a ‘Friday the 13th’ prequel series called ‘Crystal Lake’ was announced. It was originally being developed by Bryan Fuller and Victor Miller, with A24 producing and Peacock set to air it.
In January 2023, Adrienne King, who played Alice Hardy in the 1980 film, joined the cast in a secret role. Writing for the series began later that month, with Kevin Williamson contributing an episode.
However, in May 2024, Fuller was removed from the project as A24 decided to take a new creative approach. In August 2024, Brad Caleb Kane was named the new showrunner. The show is scheduled to premiere on Halloween 2025.

According to a report from Jeff Sneider over on The Insneider tonight, Linda Cardellini (“No Good Deed”) is in talks to play Jason’s mother in the upcoming “Crystal Lake” series.
Brad Caleb Kane (“Welcome to Derry”) is the showrunner for “Crystal Lake.”
Peacock had given the project a straight-to-series order in 2022, with “Crystal Lake” being described as an “expanded prequel” to the original Friday the 13th franchise featuring both Jason Voorhees and his mother, Pamela Voorhees. In the mid-1990s, the slasher genre was on its last breath. Countless sequels, half-hearted attempts at capturing the magic of the ones that came out of the ‘70s and ‘80s, and recycling of the same tropes and clichés had audiences tired of the subgenre. Then in 1996, a little movie called Scream hit theaters and changed everything. With its whodunit premise, meta humor, and fresh take on the typical slasher, it raked in box office money and became an instant classic. It was the revival the genre desperately needed at the time, and it instantly carved its place into horror history.
After Hollywood saw the success of Scream, the teen whodunit slasher dominated the late ‘90s horror world. I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cherry Falls, and even Halloween: H20 emulated the style of Scream, all with varying degrees of critical and commercial success. On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller would be developing a Friday the 13th series called Crystal Lake for A24 and the Peacock streaming service… but things have turned out to be more complicated than expected. First, the lengthy writers strike slowed down the progress of the show, then Fuller got the boot and was replaced. It remains to be seen when Crystal Lake will be going into production, but since Friday the 13th has come back around on the calendar, we thought this would be a good time for us to share Everything We Know About Crystal Lake!
First Showrunner
As mentioned, Bryan Fuller was steering this ship when it was first announced, and it nearly started filming with him (and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray) at the helm. Production was set to begin on July 22nd, with filming to last for seven to eight months.

Most of the Friday the 13th Movies Share the Same Glaring Mistake (& It Goes Right Over Fans' Heads)
Friday the 13th is one of the most famous horror franchises of all time. Millions of fans are familiar with the story of Jason Voorhees, a hockey mask wearing murderer with a machete. When Jason was 11 years old, he accidentally drowned at Camp Crystal Lake when the counselors weren't paying attention. He swears his revenge as a result, and in each movie, he ups the ante with creative, brutal kills, often of partying teenagers.
Not counting the original where his mother Pamela Voorhees was the killer, Jason has been the main antagonist throughout the Friday the 13th series. There are 12 movies in the franchise to date, but interestingly, fans have overlooked a glaring detail about most of the entries. Only one-third of the films actually take place on Friday the 13th. The movies that are set on the right date include the 1980 original, Part 6: Jason Lives, Part 7: The New Blood,...

The upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, is still in the works, and after some time, we’re starting to get some updates. Brad Caleb Kane, who took over as showrunner for the project in August 2024, recently shared a message with fans.
On December 13, which happened to be Friday the 13th, Kane posted a photo on Instagram featuring Jason Voorhees alongside Betsy Palmer, who played his mother, Pamela Voorhees, in the original 1980 film.
In his caption, Kane mentioned that while he couldn’t offer too much information, the story had been broken, scripts were being worked on, and the goal was to deliver a tense, bloody, and satisfying ride for fans. He teased more updates in the new year.
Kane’s involvement in the project comes after Bryan Fuller’s departure in May 2024. Fuller, who was initially in charge, left due to creative differences. Before leaving, he shared...

The scariest serial killer characters in movies rank as some of the most terrifying villains in the history of cinema. People have always been fascinated with the criminal psychology behind serial killers, and this is reflected in some brilliant horror and crime movies. Even when characters aren't directly based on real-life serial killers, they can often feel shockingly realistic and unsettling.
A lot of fictional serial killers take inspiration from real-world criminals, which makes them all the more frightening. A serial killer character can be as deadly as any monster or alien, but the fact that they could conceivably be real gives them an added layer of danger. Usually, a great movie murderer requires a strong performance. Robert Mitchum, Christian Bale and more have all been praised for their portrayals of brutal, cold-blooded serial killers.

In the realm of legendary slasher franchises, there are few that can challenge "Friday the 13th" for the crown. Not only did Paramount Pictures make these murder-fests an annual tradition for most of the '80s because they were so damn successful, but the franchise has evolved a great deal relative to its somewhat humble beginnings. While the series is deeply associated with the machete-wielding Jason Voorhees these days, let's not forget he wasn't even the killer in the 1980 original. That honor goes to Betsy Palmer's Pamela Voorhees, who was killing in her son's name.
It's a unique beast amongst long-running horror franchises. It's also been quite a while since Jason graced the silver screen. 2009's "Friday the 13th" remake was a big hit, but it was also the last movie in the series — for now, anyway. Much of...

Friday the 13th has solidified itself as a horror classic, spawning an impressive number of sequels and making Camp Crystal Lake the most feared getaway in America. Comprising 12 films, the franchise and its iconic killer Jason Voorhees has progressively become more extreme, with some of its entries serving as straight-up sci-fi/fantasy. Despite this expansion, the simplicity of the original movies gives the franchise its fearsome reputation, as they depict a horror that's somewhat feasible in real life.
Due to the grounded nature of these murders, it raises the question of whether the original Friday the 13th is based on a true story. The upcoming Peacock streaming series Crystal Lake billed as a prequel and set-up to the first movie in 1980 has kindled interest in the possible origins of the story. In 1980, Friday the 13th kicked off a whole new franchise that has since become one of the most indelible parts of the slasher genre, if not horror as a whole. Throughout the course of a dozen feature films, the Friday the 13th franchise has cut down hundreds of characters, transforming its tent pole slasher, Jason Voorhees, into one of the most prolific killers in the genre.
Of course, not every Friday the 13th film has the same body count, nor do they all hold up as triumphs of filmmaking. In fact, many of the franchise's entries have gone on to hold a special place in the hearts of fans not for how good they are as movies unto themselves, but for the overtly absurd directions that they pushed the franchise toward. One longstanding question on every Friday the 13th fan's mind has been this: what happened to Jason's father? So it seemed like this would be a good time to look back at the previous female slashers and pick some favorites. Who had the best kills, the best reason behind her kills, and who was the mother of them all? Here’s our list of the top 5 best female slashers, based on preferences and impact on the genre.

Where is Friday The 13th's Camp Crystal Lake supposed to be located within the movie franchise? The makers of Friday The 13th were eager to replicate the success of John Carpenter's then-recent Halloween, which became the highest-grossing independent movie at that time. Friday The 13th took Halloween's basic blueprint of teenagers being stalked by a killer in an isolated locale and ramped up the gore and sexuality. Jason would return in various entries in the years that passed. The original Friday The 13th and many of its sequels take place at Camp Crystal Lake.
The movie revealed that a young Jason was bullied and teased by other children at the camp, who later pushed him into the water. Crystal Lake camp counselors failed to notice, and he drowned, and his mother Pamela vowed to prevent the camp from reopening, leading to her rampage in the 1980 movie. Despite Friday The 13th...

The Friday the 13th movies were some of the most notable slasher films ever produced, but upon rewatching them, some harsh realities must be faced. Another Friday the 13th is upon us – unfortunately, we’re just talking about the date, not the release of a new Friday the 13th movie. But while the future of Friday the 13th currently depends on what happens with the Crystal Lake TV series, we can still go back and revisit the awesome F13 movies we have received over the years… and now we have decided to go through our Friday the 13th films collection and pick the top 5 Best Endings in the Friday the 13th Franchise!
Friday The 13th Part III (1982)
This one is all about the chase. While Steve Miner’s Friday the 13th Part III was at one time expected to be the last movie in the franchise (so they made it extra special by shooting it in 3-D), the way Jason is dispatched doesn’t feel like a finishing blow. An axe to his hockey mask-protected...

“Yes, we know murder is bad.”
On October 13th, 2023, The Lady Killers Podcast released its first episode to an unsuspecting public, sparking conversation about female characters we love to hate. Co-hosts Jenn Adams, Sammie Kuykendall, Rocco Thompson, and Mae Shults gathered around microphones to discuss one of our favorite female killers, Pamela Voorhees, the murderous mother who kicks off one of horror’s most beloved franchises . Our goal was to explore the cinematic landscape of lady killers and the horrific world of feminine rage. Why do we find female villains so taboo? How do they thrive in a world dominated by men? What makes us love these glamorous bad girls and why would we die for them even though, yes, we know murder is bad?
Over the past year, Sammie, Mae, Rocco, and I have celebrated and saluted some of the genre’s most beguiling characters, from Carrie White, Amy Dunne,...

Claire Danes (Homeland) may have turned down the role of Pamela Voorhees in Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th streaming series Crystal Lake, but back in March she did sign on to star in the mystery thriller limited series The Beast in Me for Netflix. Matthew Rhys (Perry Mason) joined Danes in the cast back in August, and now Deadline has revealed the names of four more cast members. They are: Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), Natalie Morales (No Hard Feelings), David Lyons (Truth Be Told), and Tim Guinee (Horizon: An American Saga).
Created, written, and executive produced by Gabe Rotter, who previously worked on The X-Files, The Beast in Me has the following synopsis: Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. Quick Links Friday the 13th Part VII Had Too Much Going On Fans Loved the Carrie-Inspired Protagonist This Installment Has a Memorable Unmasking
Friday the 13th is one of the most popular horror franchises of all time. Despite this, a majority of the twelve installments have received poor reviews. The only film to date with an overall positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes is the original 1980 Friday the 13th, which featured Pamela Voorhees as the original serial killer. Most of the other films, even with low critical and audience ratings, have developed a cult following.
One of the most controversial installments was Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, which featured a fantastical fight between the undead Jason and a magically gifted teenager. This concept was a bit too outlandish, even for this franchise, which featured an undead villain for a majority of the films. Though this certainly isn't one...

Jason Voorhees has become synonymous with his iconic hockey mask, which has kept the "Friday the 13th" franchise in the public consciousness despite Jason having not appeared in an official, franchise capacity since the 2009 remake. It's the result of some legal issues between the franchise and the character's creators, but that dang hockey mask has guaranteed that just like the slasher villain who wears it, Jason Voorhees will never die. Hardcore horror fans know that the hockey mask didn't show up until "Friday the 13th Part III," but even more interesting is how Jason has been presented behind the mask or in a few instances, without it completely.
Jason Voorhees has been through it over the years. He's drowned (more than once), been struck in the head with an axe, impaled through the skull with his own machete, hacked to bits, chained to the bottom of a lake, taken a boat propeller to the throat,...

With today being Friday the 13th, fans are rewatching their favorite entries in the iconic horror movie franchise to celebrate the day. While some relive the past, others lament the many lost projects that didn't make it to screens. One recent scrapped project is Bryan Fuller's Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake. Unfortunately for those already disappointed that the series was abandoned, one horror movie director has made things worse by calling the scripts for the series some of the best he had ever read.
Director Vincenzo Natali, best known for his work on films like The Cell and Splice, took to X/Twitter to share a little tease about Fuller's Crystal Lake series.. New Friday the 13th inspired art shows a look at Jason and his mother. Jason Voorhees is the classic masked killer from the series Friday the 13th. The first Friday the 13th movie was released in 1980, and followed up in 1981 with Friday the 13th Part 2. Since then, there have been multiple renditions of Friday the 13th, including more sequels and a 2009 remake. Jason is now one of the most popular horror villains out there, and is transformed into countless Halloween costumes.
Now, art from @master_of_cringe_art shows a look at Jason and his mother. The artists revealed the digital art in a series of photos. In the first photo, Jason is seen in his full killer garb, replete with his iconic mask. He embraces his mother, Mrs. Voorhees. In subsequent images, the artist showed some in-progress shots of how the piece went from a sketch to a fully colored in art piece.

Presented by Paramount Scares, Friday the 13th Week sees Bloody Disgusting heading to Camp Crystal Lake for a series of features that celebrate the Voorhees family and their influence. Yesterday, Jenn Adams celebrated the franchise’s final girls, and today, Rachel Reeves, sings praises for the music man behind the mayhem.
Harry Manfredini’s score for Friday the 13th is iconic. More than just beautifully evocative and eerily unsettling, the music is one of the key elements that elevates the film from a copycat cash grab to a worthy slasher successor. Manfredini’s score is as integral to the Friday the 13th franchise as Jason himself, offering a seamless blend of his original ideas and potent reference points. To celebrate this Friday, the 13th, let’s examine what makes Manfredini’s score such a powerful asset to the film and a pivotal score that helped redefine the slasher sound.

Yesterday, Luiz H.C. took inventory of all the horror movie fans in horror similar to franchise hero Tommy Jarvis. Today, Jenn Adams celebrates the franchise’s final girls.
As long as there have been slashers, there’ve been final girls; the lone–traditionally female–survivor at the end of the film. Fans of the lovably formulaic sub-genre have strong opinions about which character originated the trope. From Lila and Jess to Sally and Laurie, we each have our favorites and will defend them tooth and nail.
Most slasher franchises become known for specific final girls who appear alongside iconic villains in multiple films, but Friday the 13th is the rare exception that proves the rule. Known for killing off heroines early in subsequent films,...

For many years, A24 has been attempting to adapt the long-running slasher film series "Friday the 13th" into a prequel TV series called "Crystal Lake." For a few promising moments, Bryan Fuller was set to be the showrunner, but like so many Fuller projects, he eventually parted ways with the project over creative differences. This was in addition to the continued legal woes surrounding the "Friday the 13th" movies, leaving director/producer Sean Cunningham butting heads with original "Friday the 13th" screenwriter Victor Miller as to who owns the rights to the 1980 hit.
Charlize Theron was once eyed to star in "Crystal Lake" as Jason Voorhees' mom, Pamela Voorhees, but that may no longer be the case now that the series has undergone some reworking in the wake of Fuller's departure. That reworking may finally be in full swing once again, as, according to a new report from Variety, Brad Caleb Kane...

If one were to make a Mount Rushmore of classic horror films, there's a more than decent chance that 1980s' "Friday the 13th" would make the cut. Directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller, the legendary slasher spawned a franchise that is still popular to this day. We haven't had a movie in the series since 2009's "Friday the 13th" remake, but that's another story entirely. But while as important as the movie may be, it turns out that many of the now-legendary kills were done in very low-tech ways. Case in point, the axe to the face that led to the demise of Marcie Stanler was accomplished with a gag item that could be purchased at a magic shop.
In a 2015 oral history on the film published by Uproxx, the filmmakers were discussing the scene in which Jeannine Taylor's Marcie meets her demise when Pamela Voorhees...

With In A Violent Nature now in cinemas, we chat to director Chris Nash about crafting the year’s most interesting, rule-breaking slasher film.
Chris Nash’s feature directorial debut In A Violent Nature is arguably among the best horror films of the year so far. The slasher premiered at Sundance Film Festival to immediate buzz thanks to its brutal violence and a unique approach to a tired sub-genre.
Unlike most horror films, In A Violent Nature is shot mostly from the point of view of the central killer, Johnny, played by Ry Barrett. The film includes a lot of sequences where we simply follow Johnny as he walks from one victim to another. In our review, we described In A Violent Nature as “inventive, cruel and the kind that will leave your jaw on the floor.”
Naturally, we had to sit down with Nash to chat about the film...

Bryan Fuller's Crystal Lake won't happen, but the potential for a new take on the Friday the 13th franchise is undeniable. Top horror talent and ambitious storytelling could have humanized Pamela and Jason Voorhees in a unique way. Issues in production led to Fuller stepping down, leaving fans wondering about the fate of Crystal Lake.
Although Bryan Fullers Crystal Lake hasnt been completely canceled, Im still heartbroken to hear that the showrunners ambitious Friday the 13th series is being retooled. The Friday the 13th franchise has been in turmoil for decades now, but Ive never given up on Jasons potential. The series started strong with 1980s original Friday the 13th, a cheaply made summer camp slasher that combined Halloweens formula with a Giallo twist. The villain was kept a mystery until Friday the 13ths ending revealed it was Pamela Voorhees, the mother of a child who drowned at the campsite.

Charlize Theron was considered for A24's Friday the 13th series as Pamela Voorhees, but the project was put on hold. Bryan Fuller was dismissed from the project due to behind-the-scenes complications, causing the development to halt. A24 is still committed to making the show, but it's uncertain if the original Fuller scripts will be used.
A24's curbed Friday the 13th series would have given us Charlize Theron as the mother of Jason Voorhees. Development on the highly anticipated prequel series titled Crystal Lake was reportedly stopped in May 2024, which is a major loss for fans of classic Jason Voorhees films and the horror genre at large. Although the original Friday the 13th movie from 1980 essentially acts as the prequel to the franchise, I'm sold on just about anything that involves A24 and horror, so having the project come to an indefinite halt is certainly not inspiring to hear.

There are only a few horror icons so famous that you don't even have to be a fan of the genre to know who they are. Show a picture of Friday the 13th's hockey-masked killer to just about anyone and chances are they'll be able to tell you it's Jason Voorhees. Jason ruled the 1980s, with a movie coming out nearly every year, but by the '90s, as the franchise moved from Paramount to New Line Cinema, Jason stalked Camp Crystal Lake less and less. In 2009, he returned in a successful reboot, but since then, thanks to a lawsuit between creators Sean S. Cunningham and Victor Miller, Jason hasn't been seen. That seemed about to change when it was announced in 2022 that A24 and Bryan Fuller were collaborating on a Crystal Lake TV series for Peacock, which would have given us both Jason and Pamela Voorhees. Sadly, the series fell apart,...

"Friday the 13th" fans have been waiting a long, long time for something new to happen with the beloved horror franchise. It has been all quiet on the Jason Voorhees front ever since 2009's "Friday the 13th" remake became a box office hit in its day. That was all supposed to change when it was announced that Peacock and A24 had teamed up for a TV show set in the universe titled "Crystal Lake," hailing from "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller. Instead, after roughly two years of development, Fuller was fired and the show now hangs in limbo. It turns out, major A-list talent was being courted for Fuller's seemingly very expensive version of the show. Namely, Oscar-winner Charlize Theron. Yes, really.
According to a new deep-dive report by The Wrap covering what went wrong on "Crystal Lake," Theron was being eyed to star as Jason's mom, Pamela Voorhees, in the show.

On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake – and by April of 2024, things were looking pretty good for the show. Under the guidance of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray, the project was gearing up to go into production this summer, with filming to last for seven to eight months. Other new details from The Wrap’s report reveal that the episode written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) was going to take place “entirely on a frozen Crystal Lake,” with Williamson recently describing the episode as “an hour-long chase.

The final stage of a great idea has to be when it becomes so ingrained in popular culture that it then belongs to everyone. For example, hardcore horror fans might be aware that the original Frankenstein’s Monster wasn’t green and didn’t have metal bolts sticking out of his neck, but the average person will always associate that imagery with the character even if they haven’t actually consumed any Frankenstein-related media.

The first season's villain was nicknamed A, but his real name is Archie Waters.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School sets up a major villain twist inspired by a 44-year-old horror franchise, putting the Liars in grave danger. Bloody Rose, a new villain, may be Archie Waters in disguise, building tension and mystery in the series. The show could be following the Friday the 13th twist with hidden identities and mask-wearing characters like Archie and Bloody Rose.

We learned earlier this week that “Hannibal” creator Bryan Fuller is no longer the showrunner of A24 and Peacock’s Friday the 13th TV series “Crystal Lake,” with A24 choosing to “go a different way with the material.” What does that mean? It means A24 is still planning on bringing a Friday the 13th series to life, but the overall vision will likely change.
Kevin Williamson (Scream, Sick) had been on board to write an episode of the “Crystal Lake” series, and Williamson took to Twitter today to tease some of those original plans.
Williamson writes, “Bummin’ hard, so sorry I won’t be a part of what would have been an epic Bryan Fuller show. Your pilot was so beautifully realized. A gorgeous portrait of a mother unraveling in her grief. Not to mention bloody horrific!”
He adds, “I was so looking forward to our hour long chase episode!

It’s been quite a week for Crystal Lake, the Friday the 13th prequel series which has been in development from Hannibal‘s Bryan Fuller. Initial reports stated that A24 had pulled the plug on the project, but a subsequent report claimed it was still alive, just undergoing a “retooling.” Bryan Fuller has now taken to Instagram to address what’s going on with the series, and unfortunately, it sounds like he’s no longer involved.

“Adapting classic horror is something I have some experience with,” Fuller wrote. “These shows require a vision that elevates and transforms, as well as delivers what audiences have come to expect, which is an ambitious and risky endeavor. It requires people to take the leap with me.“
Fuller continued: “When it works, as with Hannibal, the results can be powerful for the storytellers and the audience.

This week has brought a lot of confusion about “Crystal Lake,” A24, Peacock and Bryan Fuller’s (“Hannibal”) television series expansion of the Friday the 13th franchise. While reports and rumors spread about A24 pulling the plug on the series, we told you on Monday that that’s not exactly the case. Rather, the project is being retooled behind the scenes.
So what exactly is going on here? Bryan Fuller has taken to Instagram tonight to provide an update. The bad news? Fuller is no longer involved with the “Crystal Lake” series.
The good news? That doesn’t mean A24 is giving up hope on the project.

Update: According to the good folks at Bloody Disgusting, the plug hasn’t officially been pulled on the series, although it is undergoing “re-tooling.” They note that they have inside sources confirming as much. Certainly, if A24 isn’t going forward with the show, news will break through official channels sooner or later, so stay tuned!
Original Post: A24 may be looking to ki-ki-ki Friday the 13th, as their planned series, Crystal Lake, seems to be treading water. Come on, A24, you were supposed to be paying attention to Jason!
As per Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, “I’m hearing that A24 has pulled the plug on Crystal Lake, its planned Peacock series based on the Friday the 13th franchise featuring masked killer Jason Voorhees. Bryan Fuller was due to executive produce the horror series. It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment.
