Described as a “genre-bending relationship drama,” the film stars Britt Baron (“Glow”), Allen Leech (“Downton Abbey”) and Karan Soni (“A Nice Indian Boy”). “Ignis” recently wrapped production in Los Angeles.

The film was written and co-produced by Tony Award-winning producer Julie Cohn (“Stereophonic”), who also wrote the popular podcast “The Redefector.” It follows Camille, a woman who begins to question her relationship after discovering that her fiancé may have taken a pill designed to chemically induce romantic love.

“As an actor, I’ve always been drawn to the emotional undercurrents that make us human. With ‘Ignis,’ I wanted to explore those same currents — but this time, from the director’s chair,” Borelli said in a statement. “This story is about love, but also about truth,...

Although his initial appearance was limited to one episode, Giamatti said he was surprised to be invited back. “The interesting thing for me was that they even asked me at all because I was like,...

Even a decade after its final episode, Downton Abbey remains one of the greatest historical dramas to grace our screens. Starring a host of talented British and Irish actors, including Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Allen Leech, and the late Dame Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey premiered in 2010 and followed the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their domestic servants in early 20th-century England, set against the backdrop of historical events like the sinking of the Titanic and World War I.

Neither the Police Nor an Eviction Threat Could Stop ‘Bulldozer,’ the Underdog Sundance Sitcom
Image
At some point during the filming of Bulldozer, law enforcement got word that the half-hour comedy pilot was filming without proper permits.

“They started trying to bust down the door,” recalls director Andrew Leeds of officers showing up to their shoot in the Valley, demanding the production clear out.

It was a potentially disastrous moment, given that Bulldozer was self-financed (no studio lawyers to intervene), and was largely made by calling in favors to people like Mary Steenburgen, who plays the mother to creator/star Joanna Leeds’ character. Producers held the door shut so they could finish filming, and tried to shield Steenburgen from the chaos, not wanting the show’s biggest name to feel she was on a production that didn’t have its shit together.

“I am literally chatting Mary up, looking over my shoulder at these cops going, ‘Oh my God, please don’t turn around,’” says executive producer Rhett Reese,...

'Downton Abbey 3' Star Shares Sad but Touching Thoughts
Image
Downton Abbey may seem like an unending franchise at this point, 15 years after it first debuted as an acclaimed television series that crossed the Atlantic and found a big American audience. If you take the cast and crew's word for it, though, Downton Abbey 3 will be the final iteration of this historical drama which has tracked the lives of different families and classes at the turn of the 20th century.

As such, the mood on set was somewhat bittersweet. Michelle Dockery, who has starred in the show as Lady Mary Crawley since the beginning, recently spoke with MovieWeb about returning to the franchise with Downton Abbey 3, which comes to theaters on Sep. 12, 2025. "Well, I mean, going into this last one was like..." Dockery trailed off. "First of all, to do one film was incredible for us. To now look back and we've done a series and three movies is just incredible.

Meanwhile, a film production arrives to shoot a movie at Downton Abbey, which creates excitement for the servants and chaos for Lady Mary Talbot (Michelle Dockery).

Downton Abbey: A New Era also features the wedding of Tom Branson (Allen Leech) to Lucy Smith (Tuppence Middleton) after they were engaged in the previous Downton Abbey movie. The Crawleys' lives change forever as the...

Image
Lives of historical figures often get cinematic treatment to tell sweeping tales of real life events, and Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice captures former president Donald Trump in a key moment before the 2024 presidential election. Starring Sebastian Stan as Trump, Jeremy Strong as Roy Cohn and Maria Bakalova as Trump’s first wife Ivanka, the film marks the latest in a catalog of films that explore the lives of political people. From United States Presidents to their wives and First Ladies, to Supreme Court Justices to scientists and brilliant minds, nobody is off limits, especially if the stories are triumphant. Others have more tragic endings.

The 2024 Academy Awards showed just how popular a biopic can be amongst voters with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer netting Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. Actors and actresses do almost anything to become the real-life person they portray in a biopic, from working with...

You Can't Run Forever Filmmaker on Directing Husband J.K. Simmons as a Psycho
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

With Oscar winner J.K. Simmons leading your movie, you're already off to a solid start. Filmmaker Michelle Schumacher who also happens to be married to Simmons has a new film out this week that features the talented actor as a "psychopathic" villain, as Simmons recently described to us. A slew of other ominous adjectives come to mind when thinking about his mysterious character in Lionsgate's You Can't Run Forever, which centers on a mom in distress, Jenny (Fernanda Urrejola), trying to find her lost teenage daughter, Miranda (Isabelle Anaya). Meanwhile, Miranda is running for her life from a serial killer whose motive remains mysterious throughout much of the film.

It's a terrifying thrill ride of a feature, and we recently caught up with Schumacher to learn more about how Covid-19 inspired the themes of her new film, why seeing her husband...

You Can't Run Forever Review | J.K. Simmons Terrifies in Survival Thriller
Image
Quick Links J.K. Simmons Begins as a Killer with No Motive: 'Does It Matter?' A Family Runs Into a Nightmare A Surprise Trip to the Past and a Thrilling but Cluttered Ending J.K. Simmons is magnetic and malevolent as a relentless killer in You Can't Run Forever. A visceral thriller that ultimately leads to uplifting themes of family, despite an ending that wraps some things up too quickly and becomes unfocused. There's a surprising break from the intensity that cleverly establishes Simmons' character in a way that illuminates his motives. It works.

Two movies are being released this week that share a common trait: They both center on psychopathic killers who seem to lack a motive in their routine executions. Oh, and they're both being released by Lionsgate. There's The Strangers: Chapter 1, the first installment of Renny Harlin's reimagining of Bryan Bertino's hit 2008 horror classic. Then there's You Can't Run Forever.

Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

He already electrified the screen and perhaps shook you to the core in the Oscar-winning film Whiplash back in 2014. Actually, J.K. Simmons has been stealing the show in countless projects over the past years and even decades. Now, he's teamed up with wife and director Michelle Schumacher again for a dark new thriller from Lionsgate called You Can't Run Forever, out this week. Simmons gets top billing, but you'll quickly realize he's not exactly the good-guy protagonist in this twisted tale that ultimately becomes a celebration of family and the power of love.

Simmons and Schumacher previously teamed up for I'm Not Here, and we recently caught up with Simmons to learn more about how this latest collaboration is even more of a family affair than the last. Simmons also weighed in on the future of superhero films, his upcoming Christmas movie Red One,...
