After a start as a fine artist at a very early age Gerhard Kleindl started 1970 working in the entertainment industry. At first he programmed for Austrian Radio his own weekly cultural music program for the radio station OE3,. Then in 1971 he began working as assistant director in film and television.
1975 he founded his own film production company, Signal Film, specialized in producing independent Austrian films. Consequently Signal Film began also distributing films, mostly of Austrian and German provenience.
To further his independence within the Austrian entertainment industry, in 1977 Gerhard Kleindl together with two partners began purchasing movie theaters and founded a film exhibition company.
In 1978 Gerhard Kleindl opened the Paris office of Signal Film. After his relocation back to Vienna in 1980 he continued to work there with long stints in Munich, Germany and in Warsaw and Lodz, Poland.
At the same time Gerhard Kleindl pursuit his other passion, food, as well. He created the lauded restaurant "Siebenstern" which turned quickly into one of Vienna's places to go to.
1982 Gerhard Kleindl moved to New York and established a film liaison office for European film production companies doing work in the US. In 1994 Gerhard Kleindl relocated to Los Angeles, abandoned the entertainment industry and started a general construction company. In 2020 he followed again his second passion - food.
