Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare and Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey producer Scott Jeffrey has fired back at critics of the latter film two years after its release. Written and directed by Jeffrey's co-producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the first installment in The Twisted Childhood Universe debuted in February 2023 to very negative critical responses, with many labeling the movie among the worst ever made.

In an interview with SFX magazine via GamesRadar, Jeffrey fiercely defended Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, recounting the hard work that went into making it. The most recent entry in the so-called Poohniverse, and the first one not to feature Pooh, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, has arrived. With Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel both being steaming piles of, well, poo, I was going to skip this. But surprisingly, I started hearing quite a few positive things about it.

While most of the films that director Scott Chambers, aka Scott Jeffrey has been involved with are borderline unwatchable fare like Dragon Fury, he does have the occasional entertaining effort like The Gardener to his credit, so it wasn’t entirely beyond the realm of possibility that Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare would actually be decent. Hoping for the best, I decided to give it a chance.

In a small way, the micro-budgeted U.K. indie “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” more than pulled its weight in drawing audiences back to theaters two years ago. The bad-taste concept and trailer generated guilty-pleasure viral traction; then the Fathom Events theatrical window was so short, there was no chance for word-of-mouth to spoil the fun. With the original iterations of several Disney characters now in the public domain, the door has been opened to parodies featuring twisted new versions of them.

One of the most attention-grabbing parodies is the upcoming horror movie Screamboat which, in case it wasn't obvious, is based on the iconic Mickey Mouse predecessor, Steamboat Willie.

Directed by Steven Lamorte, who previously helmed 2022's The Mean One, a horror based on Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas, the teaser trailer suggests the project will make slasher fans happy.

According to the synopsis, "[Screamboat] follows a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride that turns deadly when a mischievous mouse begins a rampage, targeting unsuspecting passengers. The unlikely crew must band together to thwart the murderous menace before their relaxing commute turns into a nightmare."

Gravitas Ventures travels ahead to the year 2045 for their latest indie horror effort, with The Hunger Games-meets-slasher Arena Wars released onto VOD outlets this past Tuesday.

Made on a budget of less than $100,000, director Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s movie Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (watch it Here) earned more than $6 million during its global release in early 2023… and sure, the movie racked up the Razzies, but it’s money that matters, and that’s why Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 was made and given a theatrical release earlier this year. We know the Australia-based company Umbrella Entertainment will be giving the film a special edition Blu-ray release next month, and now it has been announced (via Collider) that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 will be receiving a VOD release in the United States on June 26th!

A.A. Milne’s 1926 children’s book Winnie-the-Pooh and the characters in it lapsed into the public domain at the start of last year, and that’s how Frake-Waterfield was able to make these movies happen, no permission required.

Slasher sequel Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II was unleashed into theaters this past March, but when will you be able to watch the movie from the comfort of home?

We’ve learned that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey II is coming home on Wednesday, June 26, with the film exclusively available on Amazon Video on Demand on that date.

And yes, a third installment in the Pooh franchise is already on the way, with Jagged Edge Productions also launching additional horror movies based on iconic pop culture characters including Bambi, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty and more. Makers of the slasher horror Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey have revealed a first look at their upcoming movie Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare. The Jagged Edge Productions film is only one of a few standalone titles set within their Twisted Childhood Universe.

Per Variety, Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare is currently shooting in the United Kingdom and will make its theatrical debut this Halloween. The film stars Martin Portlock as an evil, murderous, and disfigured version of Peter Pan and follows Wendy Darling, who attempts to rescue her brother Michael from the villain's clutches. Wendy eventually meets Tinkerbell, who in this twisted version of the story will be a heroine user, confusing the substance for pixie dust. Scott Chambers writes and helms the movie, with director Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey Rhys Frake-Waterfield producing.

Scott Jeffrey will direct Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, expected Halloween 2024.

Jeffrey tells us, “I am taking inspiration from French cinema while in prep for this movie. The film will be incredibly tense. I would say it’s a mesh between Switchblade Romance and The Black Phone with our own spin on it.

Set photos from Peter Pans Neverland Nightmare tease the bloodsoaked heights to come. The horror film will twist the classic tale of Peter Pan into something far more sinister as the classic protagonist becomes a killer. The horror-fantasy is directed by Scott Chambers and features a leading cast including Peter DeSouza-Feighoney, Chrissie Wunna, Amanda Jane York, Megan Placito, Charlotte Jackson, and Frederick Dallaway.

It’s been one year since Columbia Pictures / Screen Gems brought The Pope’s Exorcist (read our review Here), a supernatural thriller starring Russell Crowe, to theatres. Just two weeks after the film was released, our friends at Bloody Disgusting heard that a sequel was in development… but then things went quiet for a while. Crowe recently said that The Pope’s Exorcist was meant to kick off a trilogy, but the franchise’s progress had been slowed down by “a change of studio heads.” Things have apparently been worked out, though, because producer Jeff Katz of Worldwide Katz has just taken to social media to announce that the Pope’s Exorcist sequel has been given the greenlight!
