Image
Lady Ra, already driven into a state of shock after her son’s murder at the hands of Kang-woo and Tae-ju, eventually realizes they are the killers. During a game of Mahjong with her son’s friends, she tries to alert them by blinking her eyes to signal yes or no and using the one finger she can still move slightly. The two murderers attempt to dismiss her as delusional, but in the end, Lady Ra manages to communicate the truth, prompting Tae-ju to attack the guests.

As the film shifts into thriller territory, this scene becomes one of its most agonizing. The tension escalates alongside Lady Ra’s desperate attempts to reveal the murderers.

Park employs a technique in which the camera constantly shifts within the narrow room, reflecting the perspectives of each character, though the focus remains on Lady Ra.

Netflixs Newest K-Drama Is The Perfect Watch For Fans Of All Us Are Dead
Image
Mr. Plankton is very different from All of Us Are Dead, but Netflixs newest K-drama is the perfect show for those missing the cast of the zombie series. Since almost three years have passed since the premiere of All of Us Are Dead, the best way to scratch the itch for more of that show is to watch other K-dramas starring at least one of its actors. While the cast of All of Us Are Dead includes a long of young actors who havent been in a lot of projects yet, plenty have already starred in other great K-dramas.

By the time All of Us Are Dead season 2 premiers, most of the main actors from the zombie K-drama will probably have starred in a least a couple of other shows. This puts into perspective how long All of Us Are Deads second season is taking. One of the All of Us Are Dead...

Woo Do-hwan & Lee You-mis Upcoming Rom-Com Is Breaking The Cardinal Rule Of Romance K-Dramas
Image
This article contains spoilers for the following K-dramas: Mr. Sunshine, Snowdrop, Goblin, and Queen of Tears.

Romance K-dramas usually have a happy ending, but Netflixs upcoming Mr. Plankton series starring Woo Do-hwan and Lee You-min seems like it could have a tragic outcome based on the trailer. Although some of the most anticipated K-dramas of 2024 have been released already, including but not limited to Queen of Tears and Love Next Door, there are still some exciting shows left to be released this year. Netflixs K-drama slate for the remainder of 2024 includes horror returning shows such as Hellbound and Squid Game as well as brand-new series such as Mr. Plankton.

A Netflix original, Mr. Plankton will arrive on the streaming platform on November 8. The show will consist of 10 episodes and will join the already long list of Korean webseries made for Netflix. A romantic comedy, Mr. Plankton is directed by Juvenile...

Gyeongseong Creature Recap: 7 Things To Remember Before The K-Dramas Season 2
Gyeongseong Creature (2023)
Gyeongseong Creature season 2 brings back Han So-hee and Park Seo-joon in a story about legacy and karma, this time in 2024 instead of the late 20th century. One of many Netflix original K-dramas, Gyeongseong Creature premiered on December 22, 2023, with seven episodes. The final three episodes of the first season were released two weeks later on January 5, 2024. Shortly after the conclusion of season 1, Gyeongseong Creature was officially renewed for season 2. Given how season 1 ended, the announcement of a second chapter was hardly a surprise. Gyeongseong Creature 2 premiers Friday, September 27 on Netflix.

The horror K-Drama tells the story of Jang Tae-sang, whose life takes a turn after an investigation of a missing person leads him to Chae-ok, a detective who is also looking for someone who went missing. Together, Tae-sang and Chae-ok had to face the demons of their past, sometimes quite literally. Gyeongseong Creature season 1s ending was mostly self-contained and saw...

5 Korean Dramas on Netflix That You Will Regret Not Watching Now
Image
Korean Drama or K-Drama has been growing in popularity over the last few years. As usual, regional television shows generally hit their peak within the country that it’s produced in. For instance, back in the 1960s and 1970s, K-Drama was consumed almost exclusively in Korea.

Eventually, Korean-based projects made their way across the world following the end of the military rule in South Korea. Obviously, there would have been much more to watch during that time than just Death Row Prisoner (1956).

A still from Squid Game (2021) | Credits: Netflix

Over the last three decades, shows like Jewel in the Palace, Winter Sonata, and Squid Game brought great recognition to the country’s entertainment industry.

So, in honor of the progress Korean entertainment has made, here are the top 5 K-Drama shows you should watch!

Park Seo-joon & Han So-hees Returning K-Drama Can Improve On Season 1 In 3 Major Ways
Image
Gyeongseong Creature season 2 can make Chae-ok & Tae-sang's romance more believeable. Park Seo-joon's Tae-sang can be a better character in a modern setting with new depth and humor. Season 2's pacing can excel by addressing mysteries instantly, ensuring a more engaging narrative flow.

Gyeongseong Creature season 2 premiers in 2024, and the Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee-led K-drama can improve on the divisive first season in three major ways. Set in the final days of World War II, Gyeongseong Creature season 1 combined historical elements with a fictional story about a mysterious organism that could turn people into monsters. The characters played by Han So-hee and Park Seo-joon met amidst their investigation regarding the sinister Ongseong Hospital, inside of which secret experiments based on the true story of Unit 731 were happening.

Despite its incredibly talent lead actors, Gyeongseong Creature was not as well received as the best K-dramas starring Han So-hee or Park Seo-joon.

1 Detail Makes Han So-hee’s Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Return Even More Exciting
Image
Han So-hee is playing Chae-ok in Gyeongseong Creature season 2, not a descendant of Chae-ok. Chae-ok's return in season 2 is likely due to her being saved by her mother with the Najin parasite. Tae-sang and Chae-ok must come back as a couple in season 2, although the former's return is still confusing.

Han So-hee stars in the upcoming Gyeongseong Creature season 2 after playing Chae-ok in season 1, an exciting return that is made even better by one important detail. Two years after playing the lead role in the Netflix K-drama My Name, actress Han So-hee starred in another web series for the streamer, Gyeongseong Creature. The period drama with elements of horror and science fiction premiered at the end of 2023 and will return for a new season later this year.

Gyeongseong Creature 2 was included in Netflix’s 2024 K-drama slate trailer, which offered a brief first look at the upcoming new season. Both...

This Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Theory Would Make Park Seo-joon & Han So-hee’s Reunion Really Awkward
Image
Park Seo-joon is playing a character called Ho-jae in Gyeongseong Creature season 2. It's unclear whether Ho-jae and Tae-sang are the same person, or if the former is a descendant of the latter. It would be weird if Chae-ok fell in love with a descendant of Tae-sang.

One popular Gyeongseong Creature season 2 theory that tries to explain why the series is now set in 2024 would make Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee’s reunion on the show very awkward. Gyeongseong Creature season 1 ended on a massive cliffhanger, with a character known as Ho-jae appearing in modern-day Seoul after most of the show took place in 1945 Gyeongseong. It is now confirmed that Gyeongseong Creature season 2, which is one of the Netflix K-dramas premiering in 2024, will be set in the present day.

It has also been confirmed by the first official synopsis that Han So-hee is still playing Chae-ok despite the 79-year time jump.

Park Seo-joon & Han So-hee’s Gyeonseong Creature Return Creates 1 Big Problem For The Netflix K-Drama
Image
Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 takes place in the present day, posing a challenge for handling characters from 1945. Tae-sang and Chae-ok are likely to return with new powers, but most supporting characters may not be alive in 2024. Flashbacks may be used in Season 2 to explore characters from 1945, while the show could feature villains using the Najin to stay alive.

Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee are both returning for Gyeongseong Creature season 2, which creates a challenge for the show regarding how to handle the other characters in the series' new setting. While Gyeongseong Creature season 1 was a historical K-drama set in 1945, season 2 will take place in the present day. Gyeongseong Creature is among the Netflix K-dramas releasing in 2024, and two clips from the new season have already been revealed. Han is reprising her role as Chae-ok, whereas Park is seemingly playing a character called Ho-jae.

Assuming Park Seo-joon’s character in Gyeongseong Creature...

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Adds A Dark Twist To Park Seo-joon & Han So-hee’s Characters
Image
Gyeongseong Creature 2 will be set 79 years later. Chae-ok and Tae-sang may both become monsters due to Najin organism infection. Chae-ok was infected by her mother, who was trying to save her, whereas Tae-sang may have drank the contaminated glass of water.

Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee’s characters in Gyeongseong Creature are set to be very different in season 2 now that the show is adding a dark twist to their stories. Gyeongseong Creature season 1’s ending left a lot of doors open for a possible second season to explore. Fortunately, the Netflix K-Drama series was renewed for season 2 and will premiere in 2024 but with a twist. Gyeongseong Creature 2 will take place in 2024, 79 years after the events of the first season.

Two Gyeongseong Creature season 2 clips have been shared so far, both of which see Park and Han interacting in modern-day Seoul. Season 1’s post-credits scene introduced a “new” character named Ho-jae,...

Park Seo-joo & Han So-hee’s Gyeongseong Creature 2 Reunion Makes The New Season Much More Exciting
Image
Park Seo-joo and Han So-hee return in Gyeongseong Creature 2, set 79 years after season 1. The show's new setting in 2024 creates mystery around Tae-sang & Chae-ok's dynamic and potential new love story. Gyeongseong Creature's modern-day shift presents an opportunity for Tae-sang and Chae-ok's love story to be reimagined.

Gyeongseong Creature season 2 will see the return of Park Seo-joo and Han So-hee despite the show’s new setting, which makes the Netflix K-drama’s return much more exciting. While the Ongseong Hospital was destroyed, Gyeongseong Creature season 1’s ending left a lot of loose ends that made season 2 all but inevitable. Not only is Gyeongseong Creature 2 happening, but the series is returning this year as part of Netflix’s 2024 K-content slate.

Shortly after the release of season 1, part 2, Netflix announced that a second season of Gyeongseong Creature was in the works. As teased by the show’s confusing post-credits scene, Gyeongseong Creature will...

Recently, we’ve had some gems like Doona, Castaway Diva, and A Time Called You that have been loved by audiences and critics alike. Now, it’s finally time for the highly anticipated Song Kang and Kim You-Jung-starring K-drama My Demon to have us on our knees begging for mercy. Alright, this is a very unserious statement, but everyone’s just so excited to be taken in by this girlboss-demon combination that we can’t help but imagine it’s going to be a super hit even if it manages to bring nothing new to the table. People are already screaming about the “face cards” these two very attractive actors are bringing to the show, which is reason enough to give it a go.

“Strong Girl Nam-soon” (2023) | Series on Netflix. A South Korean Comedy for All Ages
Image
Strong Girl Nam-soon is a Netflix comedy series created by Baek Mi-kyung, Kim Jung-sik, and Lee Kyung-shik. It is a remake of the popular 2017 Mbc drama of the same name. It stars Lee You-mi, Kim Jung-eun, and Kim Hae-sook,

Every week, a new chapter about this girl endowed with extraordinary strength.

It is a fun and silly comedy that solely focuses on making people laugh, embracing its ridiculous and unapologetically stupid side.

Sit back and get ready for some silly laughs because the combination is, at the very least, surprising: a girl who, since she was a baby, could lift tables, jump four meters, and do all sorts of crazy things.

Plot

Nam-soon was born with superhuman strength, like her mother but, when her father comes up with the “brilliant” idea of taking his daughter to Mongolia to photograph the stars (who knows what he was thinking), he loses the girl.

Featuring a very large budget and some of the best Asian actors, Korea’s take on “Ocean’s Eleven” is mainstream cinema at its best, not to mention a title that is still holding its place as ninth highest-grossing film in Korean film history.

Popie, Yenicall, Chewinggum and Zampano are a team of professional thieves who are willing to do everything to achieve their goals. At the same time, Pepsee, the third member of the previous team and Park’s ex-lover is released from prison. Film Review: Thirst (2009) by Park Chan-wook
Image
One of South Korea’s most creative and fearless filmmakers, Park Chan-wook has made a celebrated career out of offering deep, complex genre films ever since he exploded on the international market with the ‘Vengeance trilogy’ of films in the early 2000s. Continuing his use of dark themes and bold, striking cinematography in this vampire tale, his turn to supernatural-themed works isn’t diminished in the slightest in this stellar effort.

In Korea, the dedicated Priest Sang-hyun volunteers for special research on the Emmanuel Virus, a strange virus that does not affect Africans, only Caucasians and Asians. However, he contracts the disease and dies, but after a blood transfusion, he surprisingly survives among the fifty volunteers and is considered a saint by the worshipers. Soon, Sang-hyun finds that the transfusion was made using vampire blood, that he is thirsty for blood but still tries to find a...

Philadelphia Film Festival 2012: ‘The Thieves’ is a fast-paced heist film
The Thieves

Directed by Dong-Hoon Choi

South Korea, 2012

Philadelphia Film Festival

The second-highest grossing film in South Korean film history, Dong-Hoon Choi’s The Thieves is a fast-paced heist film in the recent American ensemble tradition of Ocean’s 11.

A group of Korean thieves led by Popeye (Jung-Jae Lee) are brought alongside a group of Chinese thieves with Chen (Simon Yam) at their helm to steal the famous “Tear of the Sun” diamond. Macau Park (Yun-seok Kim) is the mastermind behind it all, but he, Popeye, and Pepsi (Hye-su Kim), recently released from prison, have a history that will be sorted out.

The Thieves has a huge cast and nearly each individual crook receives his or her own share of screentime. Yenicall (Gianna Jun), Chewingum (Hae-suk Kim), and Zampano (Soo Hyun Kim) round out Popeye’s gang, playing the beautiful acrobat, the seasoned impersonator, and the handy technician respectively. On...

Review: B-Movie Thrills Abound In 'The Thieves'
There’s not a single moment of Dong-Hoo Choi’s “The Thieves” that stays still. Endlessly busy despite a robust 136 minute runtime, Korea’s highest grossing film in history should be more than familiar to western audiences. It’s a heist picture, one with a wide ensemble of moving parts which compliment each other as each heist is carried out with point men, lookouts, and movie-world gizmos, and like even the thinnest of these pictures, “The Thieves” is less interested in the characters than it is the elaborate stunts and gimmicks. The film follows a group of criminals who regularly boost artifacts from the rich, and the opening is a standout. A beautiful young woman (Giann Jun) introduces her mother (Hae-suk Kim) to her boyfriend of five months, but when they leave the room, the daughter strips down to a bodysuit and reveals herself as a building-hopping daredevil. As she ziplines from building to building,...
