It won’t be long before A Minecraft Movie builds a bridge to theaters, inviting fans of the action-adventure survival game to experience the wonders and imagination of the Overworld. According to the National Research Group, the movie could make as much as $58M-$60M+ in North America during its premiere weekend.
That’s not too shabby, and it’s excellent news for co-movie chiefs Mike DeLuca and Pam Abby, whose last few movies haven’t fared so well at the box office. To be fair, they had several duds dumped in their laps, but A Minecraft Movie is the first they’ve overseen one voxel brick at a time besides Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming vampire flick Sinners. A Minecraft movie took $150M to produce, so executives hope it has legs. If A Minecraft Movie does gangbusters at the box office, it could prompt Epic to invest in a proper Fortnite movie.

When Zack Snyder made Man of Steel with Henry Cavill, there were no plans of building a Dceu. However, DC executives were eager to catch up with Marvel, who were thriving with their superhero franchise. In their misguided vision for a DC franchise, the studio tried many things unsuccessfully before opting for a complete restructuring under James Gunn.

The Dceu already underwent several course corrections before the restructuring, resulting in a bunch of canceled or abandoned projects. After the new regime took over control, all planned films in the former Dceu were effectively canceled.

The Mattel toy company is making some massive cinematic plays, with their upcoming "Barbie" movie being joined by a possible movie based on their popular "Hot Wheels" line of toy cars. Legendary Pictures talked about making a "Hot Wheels" movie all the way back in 2011, with Warner Bros. pushing forward into development later in 2019. It really seemed like it might finally be happening when Neil Widener and Gavin James (the team behind the upcoming "San Andreas 2" and "Now You See Me 3") were hired to write the script, but today's latest update all but...

Some very odd and unexpected news has hit the movie world today, as mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer has found his next project: An adaptation of "Beyblade" as a potential live-action franchise. For the unfamiliar, these started out as toys that were essentially customizable tops that fight one another in little arenas, became quite popular for a time, and went on to inspire comics and animated shows. Now? Hasbro, Paramount, and the producer of such hits as "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Top Gun" are attempting to turn that concept into gold. Somehow.

Exclusive: Let it Rip! Mr Blockbuster Jerry Bruckheimer is producing a live-action movie with Paramount based on the popular toy franchise Beyblade.
Neil Widener and Gavin James are scripting the project, whose plot details are being kept under wraps.
The spinning top toys – a competitor of Pokemon – were originally developed by Japanese firm Takara and have been licensed by different toy companies including Hasbro. The battling tops concept inspired manga, anime and comics series, followed by localized international TV versions, all based around a Beyblade fighting tournament.
Early Beyblades included Ultimate Frostic Dranzer, Spin Dragoon and Saizo. The tops fight in arenas called Beystadiums, which have something of the colosseum about them with open sections in the walls and openings on the sides to launch into. Each Beyblade has a BeyLauncher, used to launch into battle.

While Warner Bros. and DC Films continue to mine their DC Comics Universe for heroes from the Justice League, they’re also not forgetting characters from the past and members of the 1940s-set The Justice Society of America. Deadline has word that WB., DC Films, and Chernin Entertainment are partnering on a new DC Comics feature film adaptation of the comic book superhero “Hourman.” They’ve also tasked screenwriters Gavin James and Neil Widener to pen a script; however, a director has yet to be named at this time.

Chernin Entertainment is getting into the superhero movie business and producing an adaptation of the popular “Hourman” comic book for Warner Bros. and DC Films, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Writing duo Gavin James and Neil Widener are writing the script.
Originally created by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily in 1940, “Hourman” had three different versions of that character. The first one centered on chemist Rex Tyler. Tyler is a master chemist and adrenaline junkie who, as Hourman, is a thrill-seeking superhero with the ability to manifest super-strength… for one hour a day. A founding member of the Justice Society of America, Rex/Hourman struggles with balancing his life as a hero and father.
“Suits” star Patrick Adams played a version of the character in a few episodes of The CW’s “Legends of Tomorrow.”

Exclusive: Warner Bros. and DC Films are developing an adaptation of the popular comic Hourman with Chernin Entertainment joining as producers. The adaptation is being penned by writing duo Gavin James and Neil Widener. This will mark the first time Chernin has developed a DC property.
Originally created by Ken Fitch and Bernard Baily in 1940 and originally appearing in the Stargirl comics, the hero had three different incarnations, with the first one featuring chemist Rex Tyler the first time we meet the character. Rex’s son Rick Tyler would later become the hero, ultimately becoming the most popular Hourman as the years went on.

Hold on to your ruby red slippers and repave the yellow brick road: A “Wizard of Oz” remake is in the works at New Line Cinema.
Nicole Kassell (“Watchmen”) is directing the film, an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Baum’s story has been retold on the big and small screen many times over the years; the most memorable being the classic 1939 musical starring Judy Garland.
Yet New Line promises the upcoming film will be a “fresh take” on Dorothy and the Land of Oz, adding that it can “draw on other elements” from Garland’s “Wizard of Oz” — like the prized ruby red slippers.

Universal will distribute the movie which has been a passion project for Amblin’s Steven Spielberg. Darren Lemke was previously hired for the script, which doesn’t currently have a director attached.
The novel was unfinished when Crichton died in 2008 but was later completed by Crisis In The Hot Zone author Richard...

As Now You See Me 2 arrives in DVD and Blu-ray in the UK, just so you can watch the bit where Morgan Freeman tries to explain what’s happened at the end on some kind of loop (spoiler: it makes no sense), we’ve a bit of news on Now You See Me 3.
The next film, which will likely see the return of Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Lizzy Caplan and Dave Franco, has been in development since a while before the release of the second. And now we learn that writers Neil Widener and Gavin Jones have been hired to take a crack at the script. The pair have also been working on the screenplay for San Andreas 2.

Despite struggling to make much of an impact on the domestic box office earlier in the year, Now You See Me 2 performed strongly overseas – China is even said to be producing its own spinoff replete with an all-Chinese cast – where it pulled in an impressive 80 percent of its total $334 million haul.
And so, Lionsgate is beginning to set the stage for its third act, Now You See Me 3. Reuniting the Four Horsemen for more heist movie thrills and mind-bending trickery is director Jon M. Chu, and Deadline is reporting that the caper threequel has located its writers: Neil Widener and Gavin James.

As insane as it may sound on the surface, Lionsgate is about to move ahead and make the magic-centric Now You See Me crime thriller franchise into a trilogy. Now You See Me 2 came out over the summer and sneakily pulled in some decent box office dollars. So, the studio has hired a couple of up-and-coming writers to pen the script for Now You See Me 3.
According to a new report from Deadline, screenwriters Neil Widener and Gavin James, who were also recently hired to write San Andreas 2, have been brought in to pen the script for Now You See Me 3. The pair could quickly become known as the guys who write unlikely sequels, but at least San Andreas 2 has Dwayne Johnson to help anchor it. The Now You See Me franchise has been treating audiences to its signature blend of heist-movie thrills and “Is this your card?” mystery for a couple of years now, to generally enjoyable results. Now, Deadline reports that Lionsgate has found a couple of new screenwriters to mastermind Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson’s latest take on the world of larceny-prone prestidigitators.
Neil Widener and Gavin James have been named as the writers on Now You See Me 3, currently in the hands of director Jon M. Chu, who also helmed the franchise’s second outing. Frankly, I'm surprised it's taken this long for this news to arrive. Dwayne Johnson has a truly insane shooting schedule lined up for 2016. He's filming season 2 of HBO's Ballers, then moves straight into Baywatch, Fast & Furious 8, and his live-action adaptation of the video game Rampage. Saddle up for another bumpy ride, folks. It looks like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is back for a sequel to the 2015 earthquake disaster flick San Andreas, THR reports. Despite the fact that the film was mostly panned by critics, it went on to make nearly $500 million worldwide at the box office, which more than made up for its $110 million budget.
New Line has also gone on to hire relatively new talent in Neil Widener and Gavin James to pen the script for the film. If you'll recall, yesterday it was announced that two of the three writers of the first film had been hired to write the Astro Boy flick, leaving a vacuum for this sequel.
Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario and Paul Giamatti are all expected to return to this sequel, though there has been no official confirmation as of this point.

In the wake of San Andreas' box office success for New Line Cinema last summer, the studio is moving forward with another Earth-shattering adventure. The Hollywood Reporter has word that the studio is putting together San Andreas 2, with original star Dwayne Johnson returning to reprise his role as Raymond Gaines, and Brad Peyton coming back to direct. The studio has hired Neil Widener and Gavin James to write the screenplay.
The original San Andreas followed Dwayne Johnson's Raymond Gaines, a helicopter rescue pilot who travels from Los Angeles to San Francisco with his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) to save their daughter (Alexandra Daddario) from a massive earthquake. Carla Gugino and Alexandra Daddario are expected to reprise their roles in the sequel, along with Paul Giamatti, who played a seismologist in the original movie. San Andreas earned $155.1 million domestically and $473.7 million worldwide at the box office during its theatrical run last summer.

If Hollywood is going to keep bringing William Shakespeare's classic romance Romeo and Juliet back to the big screen, then that means that they are going to have to approach it from absolutely every creative angle imaginable. In the last few years alone we've seen multiple examples of this, but now another one is coming down the pipe - and this one is apparently being made in the style of Zack Snyder's 300. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is now in talks to pick up Verona, a new film inspired by the aforementioned classic tale of star-crossed lovers. The project is being based on a spec script written by Neil Widener and Gavin James, and Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent) is attached to produce. Exact details of how the new approach will work are reportedly being kept tightly under wraps, but the trade report says that...

Sony Pictures is in final negotiations to acquire the script for "Verona," which is a re-telling of William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet." The title refers to the city in the story, which is the setting of the movie. How this version will be different is still unclear, but the classic love story will look similar to "300," which was developed using mostly green screens to tell the story of a battle between Greeks and Persians. The script for "Verona" is written by Neil Widener and Gavin James. Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent) is attached to produce.

Because the world is obsessed with mashing things up, it's time for the world of William Shakespeare's classic tragedy Romeo & Juliet to get blended with the style of Zack Snyder's adaptation of the graphic novel 300. That's how a new project called Verona has been described as THR reports Sony Pictures just picked up the project based on a spec script written by freshman writing duo Neil Widener & Gavin James. While specific details are being kept under wraps at this time, the basic premise will see the iconic story of two star-crossed lovers from feuding families with the stylization of 300. This...is...unnecessary! Considering how Baz Luhrmann updated the Shakespearean tale (while keeping his writing style) in the 90s, it's not hard to see how this story can be told any number of ways (it's been done countless times before). But for some reason this just seems like it's just too much.

William Shakespeare's timeless Romeo and Juliet tale is getting an action-packed twist, with Sony Pictures picking up the spec script Verona by Neil Widener and Gavin James. Verona is the city where the original Romeo and Juliet story unfolds, but Heat Vision Blog reports that the script re-imagines the love story, set in a world similar to Zack Snyder's stylized action epic 300. No specific plot details were released at this time.
This certainly won't be the first time that Romeo and Juliet was taken in a new direction. Baz Luhrmann directed the 1996 drama Romeo + Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, which was an uber-violent take on the original play that still kept William Shakespeare's original dialogue intact. It remains to be seen if Neil Widener and Gavin James will also keep Shakespeare's same dialogue or if they will go in a different direction. Other notable adaptations...

The story is set to re-tell the story of the two star-crossed lovers from rival Italian families through a lens of an "epic, 300-style world" which would indicate plenty of green screen and hyper stylized visuals.
