Said to be an heiress to the Victorian/early-20th-century inventor William S. Gubelmann, whose adding-machine innovations, including printed totals, led to the modern cash register. Gubelmann licensed his inventions to firms such as Remington, and was involved in substantial litigation with National Cash Registers, which had adopted his innovations.
