Just when you think coming-of-age animated series “Big Mouth” on Netflix couldn’t be any raunchier, co-creator and star Nick Kroll reveals the time that he and his cohorts realized they probably went too far.
“Maury [Kroll] was allowed to have sex with the decapitated skull of Garrison Keillor, and this was before Keillor went down, mind you, and [Netflix] still let that go,” Kroll told me Thursday at the show’s series finale premiere at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. (Minnesota Public Radio cut ties with Keillor in 2017 after an investigation found he had engaged in dozens of sexually inappropriate incidents over many years.)
“But there’s another moment in that scene where…Rick takes a thermometer out of his sick little dick, and a little bit of blood spurts out,” Kroll laughed. “It’s the grossest thing. Netflix was like, ‘Could you maybe…’ and we were like, ‘Yeah, we saw.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's final episode finally gave audiences new details about Jude Law's mysterious character, Jod Na Nawood. The mysterious pirate captain was also a Force user, making viewers question his history and if he had any Jedi or Sith connections. Was he one of the many survivors of Order 66, or was he a fraud like Haja Estree from Obi-Wan Kenobi? The season (hopefully not series) finale of Skeleton Crew finally revealed Jod's backstory. He was found by a Jedi when he was around 10 years old, and he says he was about the same age as the lead character, Wim. Jod identifies the Jedi using she/her pronouns and claims she taught him a few tricks before he watched her die. He describes her as "may have been desperate and ragged like me, but she told me I had potential.”
The series confirms that Jod has some connection to the Jedi.

Quick Links Han Solo's Cut Origin From 'Revenge of the Sith' Is Jod From Kashykkk...and Was His Jedi Teacher in 'Revenge of the Sith'?
After weeks of teasing the backstory about Jude Law's mysterious Jod Na Nawood in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, the series finally provided a hint about his origins. The Disney+ series revealed that the pirate Captain, who went by many aliases, was trained in the ways of the Force by a mysterious female Jedi before she was killed in front of him. While Jod does not name the Jedi, the few details he offers about himself in the finale, plus throughout the series and his status as a space pirate, might tell us something about his backstory.
Ever since Disney acquired Star Wars, one favorite thing among creatives has been to reuse old scrapped concepts from the original six movies and reincorporate them into the franchise in new ways.

Skeleton Crew episode 8 solidifies the show as one of Star Wars' best, wrapping up the endearing story with ease. Since the show began, I have made it clear how easy the show is to enjoy. Not only is Skeleton Crew's cast of characters fleshed out, but the show understands that it does not need to be galaxy-altering to be a worthy addition to Star Wars canon. As of the Skeleton Crew episode 8's ending, this reality is more prevalent than ever thanks to the excellent conclusion of a mostly self-contained story.
Skeleton Crew follows four ordinary children who become lost in the expansive Star Wars galaxy. As they navigate unfamiliar worlds and the challenges they present, the group endeavors to find their way back to their home planet, undertaking a journey across the iconic Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Jude Law recently confirmed he is set to play Vladimir Putin in an upcoming drama that features a star-studded cast.
Per Av Club, Law confirmed in an interview with Deadline that he will be portraying Putin in the upcoming drama, The Wizard of the Kremlin. From director Olivier Assayas, The Wizard of the Kremlin is a feature adaptation of the novel written by Giuliano da Empoli, which centers around a fictitious TV producer, Vadim Baranov, who recounts to the book's author how he helped Putin rise to power after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Batman star Paul Dano is set to play Baranov in the film, which also features the talents of Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), Tom Sturridge (The Sandman), and Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover).

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Skeleton Crew's episode 7
Skeleton Crew episode 7 barrels toward the ending with plenty of answers, the threat of lightsabers, and Jude Law having a blast. Skeleton Crew season 2 may be possible after the show's ending, but episode 7 furthered the feeling of finality as the last episode beckons. Overall, I've had a blast with this show. From Skeleton Crew's many Easter eggs to its compelling characters and fun, easygoing, but no less interesting story, the show has been a delight.

Shortly after college I bought a one-way bus ticket, boarded with two duffel bags and no job, and moved to New York City. The metropolis I soon fell in love with looked nothing like how primetime sitcoms described, but Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson soon brought my New York to TV screens with their hilarious “Broad City.”
Growing up, the New Yorkers I watched from my couch were Debra Messing and Eric McCormack. Looking back, I cannot even fathom what the rent would be for their luxurious apartment on “Will and Grace.” I don’t care if Will is a lawyer, there’s no way he could afford it. And while we’re at it, how on earth did Monica and Rachel pay for that massive West Village two-bedroom on “Friends”? So as I struggled to cram my belongings into my new postage stamp of a room in Astoria — yeah,...

What’s old is new again at NBC which has given a pilot green light to Friends-In-Law, a multi-camera comedy from The McCarthys creator/executive producer Brian Gallivan, The Conners executive producer Tom Werner and Warner Bros. TV.
NBC originally developed and ordered Friends-In-Law to pilot last development season. Gallivan’s script is now being re-piloted. I hear that Pamela Fryman, who helmed last year’s pilot, has been approached about returning as director.
Written by Gallivan, Friends-In-Law centers on Brian and Jake, polar opposites who must quickly figure out how to coexist when their respective best friends decide to get married.
The 2018 pilot starred Devere Rogers and James Davis as Brian and Jake, respectively, with Nicole Parker and John Gemberling as their alter-bound friends.
NBC so far has picked up four comedy pilots for next season, two single-camera, including the Kenan Thompson starrer Saving Kenan, and two multi-camera.
Gallivan is repped by UTA.

NBC is taking another pass at the multi-camera comedy “Friends-in-Law.”
The broadcaster has ordered a new pilot for the comedy series after passing on the pilot they ordered last season. In the series, Brian and Jake are polar opposites who must quickly figure out how to coexist when their respective best friends decide to get married.
Brian Gallivan is the writer and executive producer with Tom Werner also executive producing. Warner Bros. Television will produce. The original pilot starred James Davis, Devere Rogers, John Gemberling, and Nicole Parker, none of whom are currently attached to the new pilot.
Gallivan most recently wrote for the ABC series “Imaginary Mary” and “Splitting Up Together.” He previously created the CBS sitcom “The McCarthys.” Werner is an executive producer on the ABC revival of “Roseanne” (now “The Conners”), having served in the same role on the original series. His other executive producing credits include “That ’70s Show,...

The Netfix animated comedy “Big Mouth,” from the beginning, has drawn true comedy greats together for some of the finest voice acting around — any show that can spotlight Maya Rudolph, Jason Mantzoukas, Jenny Slate, Fred Armisen, and Jordan Peele with plenty of room left over for an eclectic guest cast that includes Kristen Bell, Richard Kind, June Diane Raphael and more is to be admired.
Season 2 of the series about pre-teens in the literal grip of their hormones brought back those returning favorites alongside leads Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, and Jessi Klein. But in addition, some new blood was added that helped “Big Mouth’s” ensemble rival that of recent favorites like “BoJack Horseman” and true classics like “The Simpsons.” Below is a ranking of the season’s most outstanding new cast members, whose collective experience with prestige dramas and classical theater work was undoubtedly a help while singing about...

Big Mouth’s second season gets even more comfortable in its skin and embraces the weirdness of adolescence that made Season 1 so fun.
This is a spoiler free review.
“Sex is so complicated…”
Puberty is a confusing, disorienting, and overwhelming experience, but it gets easier and more comfortable over time. Curiously, this is not dissimilar from the second season of Big Mouth, Netflix’s wild animated ride through budding sexuality.
The crude animated series is still figuring things out, but its new season is more refined as the show gets a little more comfortable in its own skin and continues to find its (cracking) voice, just like Nick, Andrew, and the other children here who are making their way through puberty. The first season of Big Mouth set a high standard for the series, but its sophomore year does not disappoint and it finds an even greater confidence in its storytelling.

Any time a new technology is introduced into the creative space, the challenge for creators is what they might choose to do with it. So this week, the Hulu Vr app launched a new interactive 360 video experience… that might give you the opportunity to get high with Snoop Dogg.
The new Vr experience “Ryot’s Door No. 1,” which premiered this week on the Hulu Vr app, aims not just to explore the boundaries of this tech but also create a funny and entertaining experience. Set at a 10-year high school reunion and shot from a first-person Pov, you’re in the center of the story as a guy who hopes to hook up with his high school crush. The risks standing in your way: old friends, drugs, a long-lost time capsule, a show choir reunion, and/or Snoop Dogg.

Hulu publicly unveiled the trailer and a behind-the-scenes video for its new virtual reality (Vr) comedy “Door No. 1” Friday. The comedy, which was written and directed by Nora Kirkpatrick of “The Office” fame and produced by AOL’s Ryot exclusively for Hulu, is set to debut on the service on May 24.
Door No. 1 is a kind of live-action multiple choice comedy adventure about a ten-year high school reunion. The show puts the viewer into the middle of the action by making her or him a protagonist of the show: Alex, one of the former students attending the reunion.
Alex doesn’t talk throughout the show, but can decide to take multiple paths through the story, and make many bad decisions along the way — it’s a high school reunion, after all.
The cast for Door No. 1 included Steve Little (“Eastbound and Down”), Ravi Patel, Kyle Bornheimer (“Casual”), Missi Pyle...

Comedy Central confirmed Broad City season 5 and an overall deal for its stars.
Broad City is going out on its own terms. Comedy Central confirmed Broad City season 5 will be the final season of the sitcom. Creators and stars Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson won’t be leaving the network for greener pastures, however. The comedy duo inked a first-look deal with Comedy Central’s parent company Viacom, meaning we could soon be seeing more projects from Glazer and Jacobson on Viacom-owned networks.
In a post-Jon Stewart world (relax he’s still alive) where Comedy Central has hemorrhaged talent, Broad City has been a saving grace for the network. The show has been a critical darling and a ratings success for most of its run and a star-making vehicle for Glazer and Jacobson.

A group of people who look a lot like the people who are supposed to run the United States have begun to convene again for Comedy Central.
One of them is Griffin Dunne, the actor known for his role in the 1985 Martin Scorsese dark comedy “After Hours,” and, more recently, 2013’s “Dallas Buyers Club” and Showtime’s comedy “House of Lies.” Dunne is set to take up the role of Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the next iteration of Comedy Central’s “The President Show.” The surreal and satirical comedy has Anthony Atamanuik depicting President Donald Trump as a mercurial and self-indulgent but larger-than-life personality who holds forth from the Oval Office with a rogue talk show. After running a first season of the show, the Viacom-owned cable network will air an hour-long special, “Make America Great-a-Thon: A President Show Special,” on Tuesday, April 3 at 11:00 p.m. eastern.

Steve James had a helluva 24 hours. On Monday morning, the director’s first-ever docuseries “America To Me” was picked up by Starz. That night, his series kicked off the first-ever Sundance Episodic screening, and the next morning — as the fourth and fifth episodes were about to commence in Park City — James received his first-ever Oscar nomination for “Abacus: Small Enough to Jail.”

Fans of the Broad City TV show don't have to worry about the series being cancelled too soon. Comedy Central renewed it through season five, back in January of 2016. Will their faith be rewarded, or will the ratings drop and make them regret the renewal? Stay tuned. A scripted comedy, Broad City follows two best friends -- Ilana (Ilana Glazer) and Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) -- as they navigate their twenties in New York City. In the fourth season, Comedy Central says, "Abbi and Ilana will experience NYC in a whole new way: the dead of winter." They'll also get new jobs, mark their "Friendiversary," experiment with mushrooms, explore being witches, and take a trip to Florida. Hannibal Buress, John Gemberling, Stephen Schneider, Arturo Castro, Paul W. Downs, Chris Gethard, Eliot Glazer, Susie Essman, Bob Balaban, and Nicole Drespel recur on the series.

Comedians may make you laugh, but don’t underestimate their competitive spirits. On Sunday’s “Celebrity Family Feud,” the Funny Gals take on the Funny Guys, and it’s far more intense than you’d expect.
The Funny Gals team — June Diane Raphael, Andrea Savage, Kristen Schaal, Nicole Byer, and Carla Gallo — and the Funny Guys team — Paul Scheer, John Gemberling, Adam Pally, Eugene Cordero, Horatio Sanz — compete in what has been reportedly been the most competitive match in the history of the show. We say reportedly because that’s what Scheer himself said, and he’s clearly biased. (Editor’s Note: IndieWire is also biased towards Scheer because he conducted one of the best interviews and photo shoots with “Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay ever.)
