Since he is a Danish citizen, he was awarded an honorary MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2001 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to Association Football.

Played 129 international matches as a goalkeeper for Denmark from 1987 to 2001 and is the most capped Danish soccer player.
