Late actor Gene Hackman is known for providing many memorable performances throughout the course of his legendary career. Every fan of Oscar winner might have their own favorites, and the first one that comes to mind for fellow Hollywood legend Robert Englund is the 1967 movie Bonnie and Clyde.
Englund, best known for playing Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, shared a post on X to address the recent passing of Hackman. For his part, Englund has been a fan of the revered actor dating back to when he first saw Bonnie and Clyde, sharing that the death of Hackman's character is one that has stuck with him for all this time. Given Englund's decades spent in the horror genre, that's certainly saying a lot. He went on to name a few other personal favorite films of his that featured Hackman.

Gangster movies have become a popular sub-genre over the years. The glimpse inside a fast-paced, dangerous world that a lot of people aren't part of is both thrilling and interesting. While it can be more gripping to watch such a movie that is based on real life, others that are total fiction have proven to be just as good. With the right creators, actors and script, gangster movies have the potential to make cinematic history.
The importance of great dialogue can't be underestimated. Not every scene in a gangster movie can be filled with action or violence. Oftentimes, the words can be just as intimidating, particularly when said by the right actor. The creators who have kept this in mind have delivered a stream of incredibly iconic quotes that fans simply cannot get out of their heads.

Many great Westerns are known for incorporating similar elements, giving the genre a stylistic personality that separates it from others. For the most part, it's most common to have a story of lawmen and anti-heroes who become heroes and save the day. This is true for films like A Fistful of Dollars, Tombstone and many other iconic films in the genre.
However, it's just as thrilling to watch a story about the outlaw or the bandit who has no intention of battling with their morality and doing what's right. While some are less overt about it, like No Country For Old Men or The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, others like Forty Guns and The Quick and the Dead make it very clear.

Robert Benton’s Bad Company does for the western what Bonnie and Clyde, Benton’s earlier collaboration with screenwriter David Newman, did for the gangster movie, only without that film’s veneer of star-powered sex appeal. The scrappier Bad Company consistently undermines the romanticized notions of the frontier that underpinned several generations of genre filmmaking. The film especially takes direct aim at two of our nation’s dearest held myths: the Horatio Alger notion of economic self-sufficiency, and the destiny of political expansion manifest in Horace Greeley’s famous dictum: “Go west, young man!”
The film is also decidedly of a piece with the year of its release in 1972, evident from the very first scene, wherein we see a young man dragged kicking and screaming from his home by blue-clad Army soldiers to be conscripted into the Union cause. The moment is given a surreal punchline by the fact that...

Michael J. Pollard was in his late 20s when he played the tattooed half-wit, C.W. Moss -- who goes from a gas station attendant to a criminal accomplice -- in the classic 1967 biographical film "Bonnie and Clyde." Michael J. Polland was part of a star-studded cast for the flick with Warren Beatty as Clyde Barrow, Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker, Estelle Parsons as Blanche and Gene Hackman as Buck Barrow. Pollard's performance was so strong amongst the A-list roster,...

A Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson pairing is definitely welcome, and with The Highwaymen they have excellent material at the disposal. Check out The Highwaymen trailer, a new crime drama with Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as the men who got Bonnie and Clyde.
When Bonnie & Clyde got big—the 1967 movie, not the 1930s outlaws—there was a taste for rebellion and defiance in pop culture. A forerunner of the decade’s other counterculture hits like The Graduate and Easy Rider, that film took the romanticized bandits of the Depression and further romanticized them for the decade of Vietnam and civil rights strife. Yet with all that romance, the fact they were actually murderers often gets lost in the narrative. John Lee Hancock’s The Highwaymen looks to fire back at that cinema mythology.
An apparent hard-hitting crime drama told from the perspective of the Texas Rangers who took Bonnie and Clyde out in a blaze of glory, The Highwaymen is one of the most intriguing high-profile efforts...

Bonnie & Clyde aficionados will have a field day with Netflix’s upcoming The Highwaymen, a new take on the notorious Depression-era killers that chronicles the much-examined crime spree from the perspective of the lawmen who hunted down the bank-robbing lovers.
Today Netflix released the first trailer for director John Lee Hancock’s film – which stars Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson – and the filmmaker’s approach is an interesting one: As new crime-busting techniques are changing the face of law enforcement, courtesy of the fledgling FBI and technological advances like airplane surveillance, the hunt for Bonnie & Clyde is spearheaded by a couple old-fashioned “cowboys,” in the words of Texas governor Ma Ferguson (Kathy Bates).
Actually, those cowboys are the former Texas Rangers Frank Hamer (Costner) and Maney Gault (Harrelson). Hamer was played in the 1967 classic Bonnie and Clyde by Denver Pyle with a decidedly villainous sneer.

The timeless, true-story tale of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow is one Hollywood is all-too-familiar with. Of course, Arthur Penn’s landmark 1967 game-changer, “Bonnie and Clyde,” announced a new era for cinema, one free from the restraints of censoring and pushing the boundaries of violence, profanity and sex on the screen. While the depicted story has never been cinematically matched, the young-lovers-on-a-killing-spree spurred derivatives ranging from Terrence Malick’s “Badlands” to Oliver Stone’s “Natural Born Killers.” Like any salacious true-crime news story, this saga is consistently consumed by the general public, but the perspective has mostly been limited to the criminals themselves, and not the crime fighters who brought them down.
