‘The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You’ Just Got Its Name in the Guinness Book of World Records
Image
Let’s get real for a moment. The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You or Hyakkano has always been crazy in the best possible way. It’s a rom-com where the main guy is literally cursed to love 100 girls, or else they’ll Die. Drama? Chaos? Double check. Pure, unfiltered love? Well, apparently, yes.

The anime just went Full Send with a world-record-breaking love confession that made Guinness World Records “Yup, that’s the longest one we’ve ever seen.” You heard that right. Rentaro Aijo, our overachieving harem king, dropped a 7,453-character love speech. It was just so excessively long, so passionately intense, and so insane that it earned the title of ‘Longest Love Speech in a Japanese Anime.’

The 100 Girlfriends: The Wild Setup Behind the Guinness World Record

If you’re new here, welcome to The 100 Girlfriends or Hyakkano, where Rentaro doesn’t just fall for one girl.

Before ‘Witch Watch’, This Underrated Gem Almost Got Dubbed “Ghost Stories 2.0”
Image
Witch Watch might have stolen the attention of comedy lovers in the summer 2025 season, but another 2023 anime series was blatant with its usage of humor. The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You anime aired from 2023 to 2025, spanning 24 episodes and two seasons, and won over fans with its parody nature.

In fact, The 100 Girlfriends became so popular for poking fun at the harem genre with self-aware jokes and numerous comic cliches that fans even began comparing it to Ghost Stories. Ghost Stories is a 20-episode anime series from 1994 that became a huge hit amongst Western audiences for its peculiar English dub.

The 100 Girlfriends has cemented its place in the comedy genre

The 100 Girlfriends is the definition of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover,’ or in this anime’s case, by its name. Because the moment anyone hears its name, they are almost forced to assume...

Pacific Rim (2013)
Kaiju No 8: Mission Recon review – the fury and rawness of battle as monsters keep coming
Pacific Rim (2013)
A high school-style training academy is the setting for Tomomi Kamiya and Shigeyuki Miya’s punky anime tale of a volunteer army’s battle against the Godzilla-like kaiju

Kaiju, as Japanophiles will know, are Godzilla-style giant monsters that double up as A-bomb and/or natural disaster metaphors, and Naoya Matsumoto’s YA spin is a smart addition to the outsized genre. This film is an omnibus recap of the 2024 TV anime’s first season, directed by Tomomi Kamiya and Shigeyuki Miya, and tacking on a new 20-minute episode. Taking place in a high-school-style training academy for anti-kaiju troops, it plays like Pacific Rim meets Starship Troopers meets The Incredible Hulk.

Kafka (voiced by Masaya Fukunishi) wants to join the Defense Force like his childhood buddy Mina (Asami Seto), who has become the kaiju-reaping star of the outfit. But having flunked the entrance exam, he is stuck as part of the...

Wataru Kato Deserves Extra Praise for Recreating the Most Bizarre Panel From ‘The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You’
Image
There’s typical harem anime with useless protagonists and then there’s The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You with Rentaro Aijo at its center. Many people detest the harem genre due to how ridiculous things can get. However, although The 100 Girlfriends is absurd too, it is way more thoughtful than other harem anime overall.

The anime mocks the genre while honoring its spirit. The main character has numerous partners and is on the path to taking the number to a hundred. What makes The 100 Girlfriends more enjoyable compared to other harem series is that the protagonist is actually likable!

What a dream for harem fans to not have a completely degenerate and loser protagonist. Rentaro wouldn’t have been nearly as likable without Wataru Kato, the voice actor who plays the character. He brings out everything that makes the character great,...

Kaiju No. 8 Season 1, Episode 1 Review: An Exciting Anime Debut
Image
The following contains spoilers for Kaiju No. 8 Season 1, Episode 1 "The Man Who Became A Kaiju," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The term "kaiju" is a conjoint of the Chinese words "guai," meaning mysterious and "shou," meaning beast. In modern times, the word has become synonymous with the Godzilla franchise and its array of fantastical monsters, who leave behind death and destruction wherever they go. Kaiju No. 8 builds on the same premise, showing a world where humans have the technological progress to fight back -- but not everyone gets that chance. As the manga makes its much-hyped anime debut, the reality of a kaiju-infested world becomes plain to see.

Kaiju No. 8 opens with the human side of the man-kaiju conflict, laying the groundwork for a character-centric journey through a world changed by the emergence of monstrous threats. Animated by I.G. Production with assistance from Studio Khara for the kaiju designs,...
