While originally intended as a prequel to the popular Showtime series Ray Donovan titled The Donovans, the upcoming crime drama series MobLand (not to be confused with the John Travolta action thriller film Mob Land) became a standalone series after much thought, leading to its move from Showtime to Paramount+. Created by Ronan Bennett, the gangster series is said to be a fast-paced thrill ride with a lot of brutality.

Guy Ritchie is attached to the upcoming project to direct some episodes, and he will also be serving as an executive producer alongside Bennett, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Ivan Atkinson, Keith Cox, Jez Butterworth, Kris Thykier, and Tom Hardy.

Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.

Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).

“Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks.

Paramount+ has given the green light to Landman Season 2 after the series ranked as a Top 10 SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) title across all SVOD titles for the fourth quarter of 2024.

To be specific, the series ranked in eighth place for the quarter (according to Nielsen) while Paramount+ series Tulsa King ranked fourth and Lioness ranked ninth. Landman had 35 million global streaming viewers for the premiere episode and set new records for Paramount+.

Landman had the most watched global premiere and finale of any series in Paramount+ history and was the No. 1 original ever on the service. Billy Bob Thornton also scored a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Tommy Norris.

Season one is available to stream exclusively on Paramount+.

The Taylor Sheridan series, which stars Billy Bob Thornton and is set in the world of the West Texas oil fields, originally debuted on Paramount+ in November, with the Season 1 finale airing in January.

The show was well received by audiences upon its release. According to Nielsen streaming data, the show ranked No. 8 on the top 10 chart for all SVOD originals for Q4 2024. According to Paramount, the show also had the most watched global premiere and finale of any series in the history of Paramount+. Thornton also nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a drama series for his work on the show.

The premiere episode of the Taylor Sheridan series secured 35 million streaming viewers globally, making it the most streamed premiere episode in the history of Paramount+. Additionally, “Landman” set internal records for debuting the most-watched finale in the history of the streamer and becoming the No. 1 most-watched Paramount+ original, the No. 1 engagement driver and No. 1 show in households.

The success of “Landman” continued a hot streak for Sheridan and Paramount+. The streamer has renewed its drama series Landman for a second season. The pickup comes two months after the show, co-created by Yellowstone’s Taylor Sheridan and starring Billy Bob Thornton, concluded a breakout first season.

Landman ranked among the top 10 original streaming series during the fourth quarter of last year and continued its strong run into January, racking up almost 9.7 billion minutes of viewing over 11 weeks in Nielsen’s top 10 streaming rankings. The first season of Taylor Sheridan‘s drama about the West Texas oil industry ended on January 12. The renewal news is somewhat expected, given that Landman has performed quite well for the streamer, launching in November as the best Paramount+ debut in two years.

For the final quarter of 2024, Landman ranked as one of the overall Top 10 streaming original series, along with two other Paramount+ favorites, Tulsa King and Lioness. Per Paramount Global, the premiere episode has amassed 35M global viewers.

Paramount+ has released its first trailer for MobLand, introducing a mob family led by Pierce Brosnan (The Great Lillian Hall). The trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Paramount+ series MobLand puts its cards on the table pretty quickly. Soundtracked with the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil,” the trailer features star Pierce Brosnan introducing his character via narration:

“Name’s Conrad Harrigan. Family man. And if you cross my family — well, you’d better pray,” Brosnan says, as the clip cuts to a house exploding.

MobLand, which also stars Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren, follows the London-based, Irish crime family headed by Brosnan’s Conrad as they fight for power within a global syndicate. As Variety previously reported, the show will center on “two warring families based in London whose enterprises stretch all corners of the globe.” Hardy plays Harry, a “fiercely loyal” fixer who is charged with protecting one of the families at all costs.

“1923” Season 2 has broken the viewership record for Paramount+’s biggest original premiere in the streaming platform’s history, bringing in a total of 5.4 million viewers.

The milestone is more than double the 2.2 million viewers who tuned into the “Yellowstone” prequel’s Season 1 premiere. It also surpasses the previous recordholder, “Landman,” which brought in 5.2 million viewers in its premiere.

Views on social for “1923” Season 2 increased 187% from the previous season to 1.6 million.

The drama series, which comes from Taylor Sheridan, stars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren alongside an ensemble that includes Brandon Sklenar, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Darren Mann, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Michelle Randolph, Sebastian Roché, Timothy Dalton and Jennifer Carpenter.

Michael Fassbender's new spy thriller series has been officially renewed for another season after its two-episode premiere brought in impressive numbers for Paramount+. While the series has a 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes, its audience score is much higher at 88%.

Per Variety, The Agency was renewed for a second season at Paramount+ with Showtime after an impressive debut on the platform. The series reportedly brought in 5.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched new series in Showtime's history. With Dexter: Original Sin set to premiere on the streaming platform next week, Paramount+ with Showtime appears to be ending 2024 on a strong note. Guy Ritchie’s continuing to fill out the cast of his upcoming Paramount+ with Showtime crime series. The latest additions to the cast include Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon), Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), Lara Pulver (Da Vinci’s Demons), Anson Boon (Pistol), Mandeep Dhillon (CSI: Vegas), and Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy).

The just-announced series regulars join previously announced leads Tom Hardy (Venom: The Last Dance), Pierce Brosnan (Die Another Day) and Helen Mirren (1923). Production is currently underway in London.

The untitled series is described as “an electrifying, new global crime series centered around two warring families based in London whose enterprises stretch all corners of the globe and the fiercely loyal ‘fixer’ charged with protecting one of them at all costs.”

Hardy will play Harry Da Souza, a professional conciliator on behalf of the Harrigan family.

Guy Ritchie’s upcoming series at Paramount+ with Showtime has added four new cast members.

Variety has learned exclusively that Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, and Anson Boon have all been cast in series regular roles in the currently untitled drama.

They will star alongside previously announced cast members Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Exclusive: Joanne Froggatt, best known for starring in the long-running ITV/PBS period drama Downton Abbey, has signed on to join Guy Ritchie’s untitled crime series starring Tom Hardy (Venom: The Last Dance) for Paramount+ with Showtime.

Froggatt joins as a series regular alongside Mandeep Dhillon (CSI: Vegas) and Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy).

Production on the global crime series, previously known as The Associate (w/t), is currently underway in London. The show’s leads are Hardy, Pierce Brosnan, and Helen Mirren. Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, the professional conciliator of the fictional Harrigan Irish crime family, Brosnan will play Conrad Harrigan, the Harrigan family head, and Mirren is Maeve Harrigan, Conrad’s wife, and the Harrigan family matriarch.

Froggatt will play Jan Da Souza, Harry’s wife. Dhillon will play Seraphina, Conrad’s daughter. Jobson has the role of Zosia, who works for Harry and is one of his closest associates.

The second season, which wrapped up on November 17, has reached 13.6M global households to date, according to Paramount Global. It trails only behind Taylor Sheridan’s other hit 1923 and its own first season.

(It’s common for Paramount+ to tout global households rather that viewers, since the company can’t determine how many people are watching via a single stream, or if anyone is actually watching at all.)

This is a victory not only for Stallone and Sheridan, but for MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, which have been on a winning streak as of late. They also produce 1923 as well as Landman, which recently had the biggest global series premiere for Paramount+ in two years.

Season two of the Yellowstone prequel 1923 finally has a premiere date. The eight-episode first season debuted in December 2022, and season two is confirmed to premiere on February 23, 2025.

Paramount+ announced the premiere date with the release of the first two short teasers, and a batch of season two photos.

The long-awaited second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone origin story, 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford finally has a premiere date. Per Variety, 1923 will debut exclusively on Paramount+ on Feb. 23. New episodes will follow weekly on the streaming platform. 1923 first premiered in 2022.

Two all-new short teaser clips from Season 2 were also released. One shows the Dutton Ranch being bombarded by gunmen, and features Ford’s character, Jacob Dutton, saying, “This ranch is under attack. My way of life is under attack. I’m asking you to protect it.”

The Agency debuted on Friday, November 29, on streaming and on-demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan and on Paramount+ internationally in the UK & Ire, Canada, Australia, Italy, Germany / Switzerland / Austria, Latin America and Brazil.

On the heels of these high ratings, the drama has been renewed for a Season 2 less than a week after its premiere.

Part of that accomplishment has to do with the increased reach Showtime originals now have. In January, the premium cable brand was added to its parent company’s streamer and is now officially branded as Paramount+ with Showtime.

The first episode of “Landman” hit 14.6 million viewers in its first week of availability, according to Paramount. That total accounts for streams on Paramount+ as well as linear airings on the Paramount Network.

Paramount did not define what it counts as a viewer; therefore, it is unclear how much of the episode the reported number of viewers watched. Some streamers, like Netflix and Disney, opt to measure in “views,” which are calculated by dividing the total amount of time a title was watched by its runtime, while others, including both Paramount and Amazon Prime Video are more vague. Therefore, 14.6 million could potentially refer to the number of viewers who watched any portion of the “Landman” premiere.

Paramount also reports that 6.7 million households worldwide tuned into the premiere in one week, marking the best-ever performance for a Paramount+ original. On Nov. 17, the day the series premiered, 1.5 households in the U.S.
