Phil Robertson Appears In Scenes From Duck Dynasty, The Blind, And Torchbearer ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
Before he passed away in May 2025, Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson had already left behind a curious and controversial media trail. From blockbuster reality TV to faith-fueled docudramas, the Duck Commander’s screen journey was as muddy, unpredictable, and loud as a Louisiana swamp. But love him or loathe him, the man knew how to make a splash and turn personal testimony into primetime. Here’s how his on-screen legacy stacks up, from the top of the duck blind to the bottom of the bayou.

Phil Robertson — the star of the popular A&e reality television series Duck Dynasty, a professional hunter and businessman — has died at the age of 79, his son and daughter-in-law announced on social media today. The Duck Commander patriarch was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s last December.
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” the family said in a statement on Instagram and Facebook. “He reminded us often of the words of Paul, ‘you do not grieve like those who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.’
The post continued, “Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives have been impacted by his life saved by grace, his bold faith, and by his desire to tell everyone who...

Had I known about Angel Studios’ agenda-based filmmaking before, I probably would have tried to get out of this assignment. But since I’m already here, let us not get into that and talk about Sight, a very by-the-book, exhaustingly boring biopic directed by Andrew Hyatt. The only thing this film has going in its favor is its story—about renowned eye doctor Ming Wang. Dr. Wang has pretty much revolutionized the field of optometry, and the man certainly deserves a better biopic than this thing that I am finding difficult to call cinema. What’s even worse is how shamelessly the film asks you to fund the ticket for the next person, when it’s supposed to be about humans showing kindness. Anyway, Sight should work for you if you’re into straightforward comfort food kind of biographies (I’m clearly not).

Critics may find Sight's storytelling lacking depth, but audiences are captivated by the tale of perseverance and triumph against adversity. Despite mixed reviews, the true story-based biopic of Dr. Ming Wang's revolutionary eye procedure has debuted to a near-perfect 99% approval score from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. This isn't the first time an Angel Studios production has seen such a division between critics and viewers, with 2023's Sound of Freedom soaring to box office success, in spite of mixed reviews.

Dr. Wang's extraordinary scientific achievements are poorly suited to dramatization. Sight fails to deliver emotional depth, instead opting for surface-level uplifting storytelling. The movie lacks compelling characters and fails to capture the true story's significance.
A cloying melodrama with the texture and flavor of glue paste, Andrew Hyatt's Sight is living proof that inspirational source material is no substitute for engaging filmmaking. In some ways, this isn't the movie's fault. After a shocking opening, Sight's main aim is to uplift without ever challenging the audience with anything too alarming. And yet, while the storytelling is as gently numbing as local anesthesia, the movie suffers from a lack of real drama, emotional subtlety, and compelling characters a missed opportunity, considering the real events behind the production.

As absurd as it is to say about a film that ends with an onscreen Qr code imploring viewers to “Pay It Forward,” “Sight” probably would be better if it was preachier. At the very least, it would be more memorable.
The latest project from Angel Studios, “Sight” certainly looks and feels like the type of cheap contemporary Christian cinema that both its production company and its director specialize in. But whenever the movie looks like it might go full Christian medical drama a la the inexplicably Oscar-nominated “Breakthrough,” it always pulls back from launching into a sermon. Sure, there’s a kindly nun and an unbearable syrupy sweet church scene, but by the end of “Sight,” it’s not particularly clear how devout main character Ming Wang is to Christianity, or if he’s even a believer in the first place.

Call “Sight” a stealth faith-based movie and you won’t be far off the mark. For the most part, it’s a respectful but unremarkable biopic about Dr. Ming Wang, a Chinese-born, Nashville-based eye surgeon whose innovative use of amniotic membrane contact lenses has helped restore the eyesight of millions of patients, many of them children. But the end, which contains a Qr code much like distributor Angel Studios’ summer blockbuster “Sound of Freedom” did last year, features the real Dr. Wang — one of the film’s executive producers — in a sequence where he credits his success as having been possible “only with God’s grace,” after he was able to “open myself to God.”

The Memorial Day bump that has helped so many franchise installments before will certainly be in play for George Miller‘s return to the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max with “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” a prequel that tells the earlier story of Charlize Theron‘s character from “Mad Max: Fury Road.” This one stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the title character, joined by Chris Hemsworth as a new antagonist called Dementus, as well a mix of new characters and ones that appeared in “Fury Road.”

Chicago – One of the most reliable and relatable character actors in film is Greg Kinnear. The actor, Oscar nominated for “As Good As It Gets,” has been working steadily in film and TV ever since he made a splash on the scene with “Talk Soup.” From there he was cast in the remake of “Sabrina,” and his roles ascended from there. His latest film role is in “Sight.”

“Garfiosa”? “Furiofield”?
Whatever the portmanteau for this Memorial Day weekend’s dual release of “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and “The Garfield Movie,” the two newcomers are aiming to jolt the sluggish summer season.
“Furiosa,” the fifth entry in director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic “Mad Max” series, looks to lead the way with $40 million to $45 million from 3,750 venues over the four-day holiday weekend. Sony’s animated “The Garfield Movie” should trail in second with $30 million to $35 million from 4,000 venues between Friday and Monday. Box office comparisons to the same holiday weekend in 2023 will be tough given that Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” remake took the crown with $118 million.
Warner Bros. spent $168 million on “Furiosa,” not including the many millions to market the movie. It’s not expected to live up to the debut of its predecessor, 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which captured $45 million over three days. That film, led...

There will be moviegoers at the Memorial Day weekend box office; the industry can be thankful for that. Just not as many as the previous two years when the entire 4-day frame exceeded $200M+.
With Warner Bros’ prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Alcon/Sony’s The Garfield Movie hitting marquees, the volume of event product increases, which is good thing. More big movies give people more reasons to attend. Unfortunately, both titles are not Top Gun: Maverick ($160.5M all-time Memorial Day opening record) nor is it last year’s The Little Mermaid stateside start ($118.8M) in their mass appeal.
Furiosa is both a reboot of the Mad Max franchise and a prequel as Anya Taylor-Joy steps into the one armed action of Charlize Theron, who fans of the George Miller franchise are still rabid about when its comes to the desert vigilante’s big screen portrayal. After a...

The Blind is now the most successful release in the history of Fathom Events, as the faith-based feature has grossed $15.7 million at the North American box office as of Monday.
The film is Fathom’s first to see a longer theatrical run than its traditional event cinema releases. Originally slated for an eight-day run as part of Fathom’s new specialty distribution model, it was extended twice, Fathom said, and held a steady position in the top 10 for the duration of its more than three weeks in cinemas.
The Blind was produced by Tread Lively and Gnd Media Group. Andrew Hyatt directs the back-story of the star of Duck Dynasty, Phil Robertson. In 1960s Louisiana, Robertson falls in love and starts a family, but his demons soon threaten to tear everyone apart. As he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, he ultimately finds redemption in an unlikely place.

Four new movies ended a month full of sequels, some of which did better than others, but in this case the sequels ended up doing better than most expected, and there were some bona fide surprises. Read on for the weekend box office report.
The big winner of the weekend was Paramount Pictures’ “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” the first family film to get a theatrical release in months. It entered theaters with an 81% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though it was essentially a review-proof movie with name-brand value among parents with kids. It opened in second place on Friday with $6.8 million but then grossed a solid $23 million (estimated) for the weekend. It received an “A” CinemaScore, which was not surprising due to its appeal to those same parents with kids.
Lionsgate released “Saw X,” the 10th chapter in the horror franchise that just won’t die, into 3,262 theaters on Friday.

Gravitas Ventures has dropped a trailer and a poster for its upcoming horror release, "The Last Light." The film takes place after an apocalypse where seven strangers find themselves trapped in a building, struggling to survive as they are hunted by a mysterious creature. Cast members for "The Last Light" include Edward Furlong ("Terminator 2: Judgement Day"), Jeff Fahey ("Planet Terror," "Machete"), Yvonne Zima ("ER") and Ed Quinn ("Eureka"). The superimposition of shots and sound at the beginning of "The Last Light" trailer suggests that the film is, perhaps, a meditation on the tenuous relationship between time and memory. It remains to be seen how far writer/director/producer Andrew Hyatt can dig into this issue before giving up to the more excessive "gore-like" conventions of the horror genre. "The Last Light" will be made available on iTunes and OnDemand starting June 3rd. Check out the poster and trailer below:...

We open on main character, Emma (Brit Morgan, best known for True Blood), staring intently at her reflection in a bathroom mirror. If you immediately...
