Actor Michael B. Jordan, in a new video, breaks down some of his most iconic film characters, and, of course, that included his turn as Adonis, the son of Apollo Creed (the late Carl Weathers), in the Creedtrilogy. In the GQ sit-down posted to YouTube, Jordan talks about why a fourth Creed movie hasn’t hit the big screen.
So far, there are three Creed movies, beginning with Creed in 2015, followed by Creed II in 2018, and Creed III in 2023. “Yeah, the fourth one, eventually, not sure when, but we left the door open to build on that franchise,” Jordan said about a followup to Creed III.
“My thing is like, I don’t wanna make a movie just to make it, give it a little time to breathe, make people want it, miss it a little bit. And when the time is right, I’ll drop in and do another one,...

I joined Outlier Society as president and became Michael B. Jordan’s producing partner after serving as president of production at Paramount Pictures. When I arrived at Outlier, the Creed III team was already in development on the script from a story by the franchise’s originator, the incomparable Ryan Coogler, to be written by King Richard Oscar nominee Zach Baylin and Keenan Coogler, Ryan’s brother. While I was of course excited to support Michael in his directorial debut and produce this film alongside Michael and Ryan, another great joy for me was reuniting with producer Irwin Winkler, with whom I had worked over many years and films in my Paramount days and who won the Oscar for best picture with Rocky.
In the early stages of preproduction, we stress-tested the concept and paradigm of the movie. Michael and I constantly asked ourselves, “What kind of movie are we making?...

Creed 4 is officially in the works, and Michael B. Jordan will be back in the director's chair.
Per Deadline, franchise producer Irwin Winkler has announced that Creed 4 is now in development. He stated, "We're planning to do Creed 4 right now... We think we have a really good story, a good plot." Winkler also said that the production was delayed because of the WGA strike, but that they're hoping to begin with pre-production on the project in "about a year from now." As far as who's directing, Winkler noted how he's "not supposed to say," but that Jordan "will be" returning to direct Creed 4.

The Rocky franchise is currently continuing with its popular Creed spin-off series, but these 10 Rocky and Creed characters actually deserve their own spin-offs. There are loads of characters throughout the nine movies that make up the Rocky franchise, many of which have been fleshed out and explored across multiple movies. However, some of these Rocky and Creed characters are strong enough to carry their own spin-offs, whether they be movies or TV shows, and here are the top 10.
Starting with the 1976 Sylvester Stallone classic, the original Rocky kicked off a massive franchise, all centering around the sport of boxing. The six Rocky movies culminated in 2006's Rocky Balboa, which was seemingly the last movie in the franchise. However, the Rocky series received its first big spin-off in 2015, with Creed centering around Adonis Creed, the son of the antagonist from the original movie. Adonis Creed's fight for his legacy in the ring will now be available to a wider audience. Michael B. Jordan is back as the titular fighter in the March 2023 release "Creed III," the third installment in the Creed franchise, which is a continuation of the Rocky stories.
Set to hit Prime Video on June 9, Creed III" follows a successful Adonis's life years after defending his heavyweight championship title in "Creed II." Tessa Thompson is back as Adonis's wife, Bianca Creed, with Mila Davis-Kent as their daughter, Amara Creed. In the film, Adonis reconnects with Damian, a man from the boxer's past who hopes to train with the now-champion. Damian, played by Jonathan Majors, becomes more foe than friend, though, and the two find themselves facing off.

Sylvester Stallone stepped away from the Creed franchise for Creed 3, and had he returned as Rocky, the film would have been very different. The actor's feud with producer Irwin Winkler caused Stallone to walk away from the Creed franchise for its third installment. Michael B Jordan had no trouble carrying the film alongside returning stars Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad and new cast members Jonathan Majors and Mila Davis-Kent. Shockingly, the film didn't even give an update as to where Rocky was. While Stallone's Rocky helped transition into the Creed franchise, inviting in fans of the original Rocky franchise, Creed 3 went on just fine without him.
Unfortunately, this did create some plot holes around why Rocky didn't train Adonis for his fight against Dame when he'd trained him for his previous fights and why Rocky didn't attend Maryanne Creed's funeral. Luckily, Rocky's absence did have some benefits for the film.

A Rocky TV show from Sylvester Stallone is reportedly a possibility. An unknown talent at the time, Stallone first starred as the titular small-time club fighter from Philadelphia who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the title in 1976's Rocky, a film which he also wrote. Over the years, Stallone starred in five Rocky sequels, writing all of them and directing some. Today, the Rocky franchise lives on in the form of Creed, with Stallone returning as Rocky for the first two spinoff films. Though Stallone didn't return for Creed 3, he remained on board as a producer.
Now, as Amazon Studios plans to flesh out the boxing franchise, a Rocky TV show from Stallone is reportedly a possibility, per Deadline. The studio recently signed a first-look deal with Stallone and his production company, Balboa Productions, for both film and TV projects. The trade's sources say that "expanding the Rocky brand...

But when her division opponents no longer present a challenge, Amara's drive will have her following in her father's footsteps, going underground.

Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) begins “Creed III” as the retired heavyweight boxing champion of the world, while wife Bianca (Tessa Thompson) is a high-powered music producer. A power couple like that in Los Angeles would have a home that reflects their success, but this particular house also needed to be a showcase of accessibility for their deaf daughter Amara (Mila Davis-Kent). This led production designer Jahmin Assa to imagine a home for the Creeds that was extremely modern in style and materials.
“I started talking to people about what you would do if you had all the resources at your disposal to provide for a deaf family member, and learned that everything [being] visible is a lot better than having things that can sneak up upon you,” Assa told IndieWire. “So a lot of glass, a lot of wider hallways. Authentic Deaf representation in film continues to be an uphill battle. But there's something positive to celebrate this month: the highly-anticipated "Creed III," directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan, has lived up to the hype - and not least because it has shed light on the Deaf community through the character of Amara Creed, played by Deaf actress Mila Davis-Kent.
Although the film industry continues to move forward with representation (see: "Coda" star Troy Kotsur becoming the first Deaf actor to win an Oscar last year), Deaf actors are still frequently overlooked for Deaf or hard of hearing (Hoh) roles. This film - which is a sequel to 2018's "Creed II" and follows Adonis "Donnie" Creed (played by Jordan), who reconnects with his childhood friend Damian (Jonathan Majors) - did the work to bring accurate and positive representation of Deaf individuals to the entire "Rocky" franchise.

After Creed III walloped its way to a $100 million opening weekend last week, it’s no surprise that Michael B. Jordan, plans are in place for Jordan to build a bigger ‘_Creed-verse’, with spin-offs of its own and sequels galore bound for Amazon.
It’s very early days, so we’re nowhere near the walk-out to the ring yet (it’s more like the bit in the training montage where Rocky’s trudging through the train depot in the murky morning light than the bit where he’s bounding around at the top of the Philly Museum of Art steps), so details are unconfirmed at the minute. But, the word is that the Creed-verse could be expanded with a TV series spin-off, as well as an anime series which connects to the Creed movies. A third mooted show could focus on Creed’s daughter Amara, played by first-timer Mila Davis-Kent.

Director-actor Michael B. Jordan’s Creed III is a box office champ.
If early estimates hold, the movie is on course to open to a better-than-expected $51.1 million domestically in a win for MGM and Michael B. Jordan, who directed Creed III in his feature debut. Jordan also returns in the role of Adonis Creed, a character first introduced in Ryan Coogler’s 2016 sleeper hit Creed, which revived the legendary Rocky film franchise.

Adonis Creed is back in the ring with Creed III, the latest sequel of the long-running franchise. Michael B. Jordan returns to star in the sequel, but he also took on directing duties as well. The film took in $5.5 million with Thursday night previews, putting it on track for a franchise-best opening of $40 million.
After dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has been thriving in both his career and family life. When a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian (Jonathan Majors), resurfaces after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian – a fighter who has nothing to lose. Boxing champ Adonis is living the good life with a wonderful wife, loving daughter, and more than he could have ever dreamed of. So, of course, he’s now about to face his greatest challenge – a friend he left behind – in the third entry of the Rocky spinoff, Creed III.
Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) has retired from boxing and spends his days with his wife, Bianca (Tessa Thompson), and his daughter, Amara (Mila Davis-Kent), in their mansion. He also runs a gym and is a promoter for boxing champ Felix Chavez (Jose Benavidez). Yes… life’s pretty much perfect for Creed.

[This story contains mild spoilers for Creed III.]
Tessa Thompson isn’t afraid to say no. Whether it’s now with Creed III or in the past, she will speak up if something doesn’t feel right to her on a character level.
In Ryan Coogler’s Rocky franchise spinoff and legacy sequel, Creed (2015), one of the most memorable scenes involves Thompson’s Bianca and Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis “Donnie” Creed going out for Philly cheesesteaks. During their first meal together, Bianca explains the meaning of the word “jawn” to the L.A.-minded Donnie, which is Philadelphia slang for any type of noun. But now, with Creed III’s time jump of seven years, the Creeds consider Los Angeles their home, and so they’ve become different people in some ways. Thus, Thompson made it clear that Bianca had to lose the colloquialism of her past.

Rocky Balboa is one of cinema’s most beloved heroes. After creating and portraying the character in 1976’s Best Picture winner, Sylvester Stallone went on to play the Italian Stallion seven more times, earning a second Oscar nomination for his supporting work in Creed (2015). Rocky is such an icon that a statue bearing his image is still a popular tourist destination in Philadelphia.
So it’s quite a feat that Stallone’s absence is never once noticeable in Creed III. Michael B. Jordan triumphantly makes the franchise his own and confirms that Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s nemesis-turned-friend Apollo Creed, is a compelling character in his own right. Creed III is also Jordan’s directorial debut, and he delivers an energetic and entertaining entry that breathes new visual life into a nearly 50-year-old series.

MGM’s “Creed III” kicked off its opening weekend with $5.45 million in Thursday box office previews, according to multiple media reports.

MGM is projecting $35 to $38 million, on par with “Creed II”s $35.5 million opening. The 2018 sequel brought $3.7 million from preview screenings that took place on a Tuesday night ahead of the extended Thanksgiving weekend in 2018.
“Creed III” must take in more than $115 domestically and $214 million worldwide to beat its predecessor, while the first installment in the franchise made $109 million in the U.S. and $173.5 million globally back in 2015.

MGM’s Creed III has delivered its first blow.
The latest installment in the Rocky spinoff series earned a strong $5.5 million in previews, including from Thursday night shows and sneak screenings earlier in the week.
Creed III is now pacing to open to $40 million domestically, easily enough to win this weekend’s match. In addition to returning as the title character Adonis Creed, Jordan also helmed the movie in his feature directorial debut.
The first Creed, directed by Ryan Coogler, powered its way to a $42.1 million domestic opening over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday in 2015, including $29 million for the three-day weekend, not adjusted for inflation. The Steven Caple Jr.-directed sequel opened over the Thanksgiving corridor in 2018, grossing $56 million for the five days and $35.5 million for the three.
Holdovers to watch include Marvel and Disney’s Quantumania and Universal’s high-profile genre pic Cocaine Bear.

Creed III sees the return of the titular boxer and, with Creed 4 confirmed by the franchise’s star Michael B. Jordan, should viewers expect the third installment to have a post-credits scene? Jordan makes his directorial debut with Creed III, working from a script by Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin. The actor-turned-director pulls double duty here, reprising his role as Adonis “Donnie” Creed as he gears up to fight Jonathan Majors’ Damian Anderson.
Creed III has received mostly positive reviews from critics, and the threequel currently ranks higher than Creed II on Rotten Tomatoes, with many praising the film’s fight scenes and maintaining a grounded story focused on the characters. Creed III sees the return of Tessa Thompson as Bianca and Phylicia Rashad as Adonis’ mother Mary-Anne, and introduces Mila Davis-Kent as Amara, Adonis and Bianca’s daughter, among others. For Creed III co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors, the on-screen rivalry between their characters has a way of translating off-screen, too — in a good way.
“His drive to be the best, I have that drive to be the best,” Majors told The Hollywood Reporter about his and Jordan’s work ethic. “And contrary to popular belief, those things can run parallel. That’s how you get a movie like Creed III.”
On Monday evening, the cast and crew of Creed III gathered at the Tcl Chinese Theater to celebrate the film’s premiere, which hits theaters on Friday.
From starring in the previous Creed films to now directing the third installment, Jordan’s journey with the franchise is a personal one. “This is a character I’ve played three times over the last nine years of my life — very transformative years, the last nine years of my career and personal life,...

The “Creed” series, like the “Rocky” franchise before it, has built an emotional language out of the way that the camera moves, the sound echoes, the editing balances perspective, and the score weaves in and out of the ring. But that’s not the reason director Michael B. Jordan, who stars as Adonis Creed, describes “Creed III” as quadrilingual.
“We have English. We have Spanish. We have Asl. And then we have the fighting language we explore [in the final fight],” Jordan told IndieWire during a recent interview. American Sign Language has always been baked into the DNA of the Creed films. Bianca Creed (Tessa Thompson) lives with progressive hearing loss and wears a hearing aid, and the question looming over “Creed II” was whether their daughter, Amara (Mila Davis-Kent), would be hard of hearing.
The third film embraces Amara’s loss of hearing, and the scenes between father and daughter — who is herself...

Can the Rocky franchise exist without Rocky? Creed (2015) and Creed II (2018), both critical and commercial successes, were inescapably tethered to nostalgia. Sure, they may have wrestled with the question of whether Michael B Jordan’s Adonis “Donnie” Creed could make a name for himself beyond the reputation of his father, Apollo (Carl Weathers), and his mentor, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). But Stallone was still there, holding his audience’s hands through this new venture.
Creed III, finally, has actually answered the question at hand. And it’s done so with a firm and enthusiastic “yes”. Stallone, though he’s stayed on as a producer under his Balboa Productions banner, has fully stepped aside. There is no Rocky here. Characters don’t spend the entire film asking where he’s gone, either. The sequel sees Jordan stepping up and taking full ownership of his character. It’s also the actor’s directorial debut.

There are boxing sequels and then there are boxing sequels. Longtime fans of the Rocky and Creed franchise should know exactly what we mean by both. Fortunately, Creed III is the latter, as well as one of the best entries in this long-in-the-chipped-tooth franchise. More interesting still, its success pivots on a fairly subversive idea: What if Rocky was the bad guy?
That summary might be an oversimplification of the motivations and backstory ascribed to Jonathan Majors’ Damian Anderson, but it’s also the point. In a series where the opponents are either likable yet oblivious blowhards, a la the original depiction of Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), or masochistic cartoon brutes, here is a rival that challenges our hero Adonis Creed, and yet who can also claim a Cinderella story just as sympathetic as the Italian Stallion. Perhaps even more so, since Dam was the childhood pal of Adonis before...

Michael B. Jordan steps into the ring once more with Creed 3. Set after the events of Creed 2, Adonis Creed is thriving as a famous boxer, husband, and father. His peace is interrupted when a blast from the past in the form of his old friend Damian "Dame" Anderson, once a boxing prodigy and now an ex-con, knocks on his door. Dame wants the chance to put his gloves back on and step into the ring after losing so much time.
Dame and Adonis' relationship is strained by lies and resentment, which culminate in a showdown between the two former friends that quickly becomes personal. Creed 3 is Jordan's directorial debut and the first in the Rocky or Creed franchises not to include Sylvester Stallone. Creed 3 features an impressive cast led by Jordan, Jonathan Majors, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu, and Mila Davis-Kent.

Michael B. Jordan not only stars in Creed III but also makes his directorial debut. During the Hollywood premiere at the Chinese Theatre, Jordan introduced the entire cast of the film and gave an emotional speech.
“This journey over the last three years has been incredible. Never thought I could do what y’all say I did,” he said. “I couldn’t have done that without the people that I just named in this incredible, incredible cast. It’s a team effort”
Jordan continued, “Every day I tried to show up and I wanted to impress them. I wanted to let them know that I wasn’t doing it just to do the job. And finding the truth within the Creed family was really, really important to us. So, thank you, guys, so much for having my back every step of the way, even when it’s difficult.”

Review: The year 2023 is shaping up to be a year of sequels. To be fair, that is every year as of late. Thankfully, some of these sequels are good. And Creed III is one of the best at continuing to tell a story that started back with Stallone’s masterwork, Rocky, in 1976. And similarly to Rocky II from 1979, Creed star Michael B. Jordan is also taking on directorial duties this time. And he succeeds. The new story is concise and inspiring and features excellent fighting sequences. The third film in the Creed-specific franchise also smartly includes Jonathan Majors as an old acquaintance of Adonis Creed.

With "Creed," Ryan Coogler took the "Rocky" mythos and created something that felt both comfortably familiar and refreshingly new. I'm from Philadelphia, and I can distinctly remember seeing "Creed" opening weekend with a Philly crowd. Near the end of the film, there's a moment where a knocked-down Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) gets back on his feet as Bill Conti's familiar "Rocky" theme music kicks in. At that moment, the audience — myself included — lost their damn minds, cheering, clapping, slamming their fists down on the armrests of the seats. It felt electric, and it only made the entire film more endearing.
Now here we are with "Creed III," the third entry in what has become a new franchise. One look at the "Rocky" series can tell you this is potentially dangerous ground. While the first "Rocky" is a gritty, down-to-earth drama about a palooka about to take his big shot,...

Halfway through his first professional fight — a title fight, no less — “Diamond” Dame Anderson (Jonathan Majors) uses a break between rounds to get rid of a tooth that his fierce competitor, Felix Chavez (Jose Benavidez), has knocked loose during their bruising battle. If that sounds painful, it looks even worse, but the former Golden Gloves champ simply spits it out, gets back in the ring, and wins big. He will not be deterred. Nothing will stop him. What could be scarier in a competitor than that?

There has never been a bad “Rocky” movie before, and thank goodness “Creed III” keeps the streak alive.
Even the films in the “Rocky” series with less-than-stellar reputations are interesting character pieces, valuable snapshots of their moments in history, which only become more enjoyable as time marches on. Time has marched directly into the “Creed” series, an equally impressive collection of underdog tales starring Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s greatest opponent, who forges a path for himself but — like Rocky before him — keeps walking into one epic tussle after another.
The raison d’être of the “Rocky” and “Creed” sequels is to take a character who had seemingly achieved all of their goals, knock them back down again, and see if they can crawl back up. Frankly, the series is more valuable for all these efforts. Taken as a whole, these films paint life as a perpetual,...
Even the films in the “Rocky” series with less-than-stellar reputations are interesting character pieces, valuable snapshots of their moments in history, which only become more enjoyable as time marches on. Adonis Creed, like Rocky Balboa before him, is a fighter who faces down his demons and finds his triumph-of-the-human-spirit mojo, all leading up to his inevitable delivery of that knockout punch. The first two “Creed” films, like the six “Rocky” films, were rah-rah crowd-pleasers, with the hero taking on an adversary who represents the forces of darkness. The boxing foes in these movies are a little like comic-book supervillains: Clubber Lang, Ivan Drago, Drago’s vengeful son, and so on. They’ve been catchy and, at times, memorable characters, but it’s part of their appeal that they’re two-dimensional raging-bull enemies you would hardly rank as layered human beings.
But “Creed III,” directed with impressive first-time flair by its star, Michael B. Jordan, is infused with a different flavor. Adonis, having settled into retirement in his sleek L.A. mansion, appears to be sitting on top of the world.

Adonis Creed is no longer an underdog, but Creed III needs us to believe he still is.
The latest installment of the popular Rocky follow-up series, helmed by Michael B. Jordan in his directorial debut, builds itself upon this shaky foundation.
If we take its claims at face value, Creed III is a rousing success, a slick, cool and inspiring narrative about boxing’s prince trying to defend his title and honor. Adonis (played by Jordan) has come a long way since his scrappy days in Ryan Coogler’s Creed, when chasing answers about his past and guidance for his future landed him in Philadelphia. In that film, the nearly forgotten son of Apollo finds in Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) a reluctant trainer and father figure. Creed imbued the franchise with new life without abandoning its sentimental core, a tricky balancing act that won over existing fans and courted a new generation of viewers.

At the London premiere of Creed III, which marks Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, the actor — who also stars in the film — wore an updated tuxedo by Prada that mixes together both refined and relaxed elements, including a modern buckle detail. Made in navy wool, it also features black satin lapels, paired with Prada’s black brushed leather derby shoes.
Jordan’s stylist Jason Bolden exclusively tells The Hollywood Reporter, “We wanted something that felt super proper with a modern edge, which is the DNA of Prada” and that the Italian luxury label has “always been one of Mbj’s favorite brands.”
As for the inspiration for Jordan’s look during the Creed III premiere tour, Bolden adds that a certain iconic film actor is their lodestar. “This is [Michael’s] directorial debut so we wanted to lean into the classic style of Sidney Poitier.”
