The premiere episode of Tim Allen's new ABC sitcom, Shifting Gears, broke viewership records despite its lackluster reviews. The show now stands as the most-watched ABC streaming premiere to date, beating out The Conners' 2018 debut. The series was created by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, known for The Simpsons. According to ABC, the series drew close to 17 million views over the first seven days through the network, Hulu, and Disney+. The Wrap reports:
"The Tim Allen and Kat Dennings-led comedy series brought in a total of 16.95 million viewers, a 173% increase over the show’s initial live-plus-same day viewing of 6.2 million, according to Nielsen. Among adults aged 18 to 49, the show earned an 0.87 rating."

The Santa Clauses executive producer Jason Winer recently explained why he feels confident the fan-favorite Disney+ series will be back for a third season.
Speaking with Behind the Lens, Winer revealed that The Santa Clauses has been "a giant for Disney+" over its first two seasons, leading him to think, "while it's never a certainty, it feels like we got a good shot" at a third season. The executive producer added that if The Santa Clauses was renewed, the series would continue to bring back characters and cast members from the original film trilogy: "So, we literally bend over backwards to connect our series to the original movies, and create Easter eggs for the fans, and we have so many cameos though, and so many roles, frankly, that we would love to make, and hopefully we get to do a Season 3, and we can scratch all those itches for the fans.

Casey Wilson describes working with Tim Allen on The Santa Clauses as the worst experience she's ever had with a co-star. Allen was rude, never made eye contact, and everyone on set was walking on eggshells around him. Wilson shares an anecdote where Allen dropped his Santa cape on the floor and left, while his stand-in was much nicer to work with.
The Santa Clauses star Casey Wilson has revealed what star Tim Allen is like behind-the-scenes...and it doesn’t sound too good. Speaking on a recent episode of her Bitch Sesh podcast, Wilson, who plays an older version of Sara from the original movie, described working with Allen on the Disney+ series as “truly single worst experience I’ve ever had with a co-star ever.” See what else Wilson had to say about working alongside Allen below...

The Santa-verse is getting bigger. Season two of The Santa Clauses may have surpassed expectations with a season of inventive new story arcs. In the new season of the Tim Allen-led Disney+ comedy, we’ve already seen an expansion of the mythology behind our favorite gift-giving fella, and the addition of several new characters is a hoot. That includes Magnus Antas or Mad Santa, played to hilarious ends by Eric Stonestreet (known for Modern Family).
But for Allen, one of the greatest joys of continuing the story of Scott Calvin a.k.a. Santa Claus is working alongside his daughter Elizabeth Allen-Dick, who plays Calvin’s daughter Sandra on the hit show. With several episodes left to air before season two bows out, father and daughter took time to speak with MovieWeb about working together and the biggest appeal this season. Dive in.

A Santa-in-waiting and a Santa with a dark side are among the biggest additions in the upcoming season of The Santa Clauses, dropping November 8 on Disney+. The hit show starring Tim Allen is an engaging, comedic extension of the actor’s successful The Santa Clause films, creating a more deeply layered and textured Santa universe. The buzz is building on the season ahead after season two's trailer revealed Santa’s son Cal was enduring Santa training and a “mad” Santa is on the loose. The actor who plays that role will no doubt become a fan favorite.
In addition to Allen, season two brings back the cast that helped make the show a hit — Elizabeth Mitchell (Mrs. Santa), Elizabeth Allen-Dick (Sandra Clause), Devin Bright (Noel), Austin Kane (Cal), and Matilda Lawler (Betty). Look for Modern Family favorite Eric Stonestreet to figure prominently this season. Jack Burditt is the series’ executive producer and showrunner.

It's kind of baffling that "The Santa Clause" is one of those franchises that's still going on today. It feels like something we should be talking about in hushed whispers. Like, "Hey, remember that Disney movie where Tim Allen commits manslaughter against Santa Claus and then undergoes a Cronenbergian physical transformation into Jolly Old St. Nick after inadvertently entering a contractual agreement to take his place? The '90s were wild, man." To be fair, I'm sure even Allen had no idea he would still be playing the cynical toy marketing director turned fabled gift-giver Scott Calvin almost 30 years after starring in the original "Santa Clause".
Yet, here we are in 2023, with season 2 of the Disney+ sequel series "The Santa Clauses" right around the corner. Season 1, much like the feature-length "Santa Clause" sequels before it, was far from a critical darling, but it absolutely has its supporters and brought in...

Scott Calvin's reign on The Santa Clauses may not be ending as planned.
Disney+ made a shocking announcement this week:
The Santa Clauses will return for Season 2!
“This franchise has had a lasting impact for so many families, truly becoming part of their annual holiday traditions,” Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said in a statement.
“Bringing it back as a series has been a true gift, and I’m grateful to our producing partners at 20th Television and, of course, Tim Allen and team, that we have yet another reason to celebrate this holiday season.”
The news is somewhat surprising. Before the series was even picked up, reports stated it would be a limited series revival that would seemingly bring Tim Allen's alter ego full circle.
Now, it sounds like there will be plenty of Scott and his family on the agenda because we're getting a full-fledged second season.

Warning! Spoilers about The Santa Clauses episode 3 ahead.
Disney’s The Santa Clauses episode 3 sees The Santa Clause sequel introduce the Befana, whom Scott describes as a witch – here are the Christmas witch and the legend behind the character explained. Scott’s (Tim Allen) realization that the best he could do for his family would be leaving his post as Santa in The Santa Clauses episode 2 makes his daughter Sandra (Elizabeth Allen-Dick) look for help and support in the Wobbly Woods. Indeed, besides animals and her family, there’s someone else Sandra trusts enough to confide in, someone Scott/Santa refers to as the Christmas Witch in The Santa Clauses episode 3, but who prefers to be called by her original name, Befana (Laura San Giacomo).
Disney’s The Santa Clauses accurately depicts the Befana, which is, to this day, still a Christmas staple for those who celebrate the holiday in Italy.
