Image
American Idol season 21 third place finalist Colin Stough wasn't crowned champion, and although there are reasons for this, there's also a case to be made that he should've won. Colin was eliminated on finale night after his impressive performances of "Stupid Boy" by Keith Urban and "Either Way" by Chris Stapleton. Later in the episode, Iam Tongi was named the American Idol season 21 winner, while Megan Danielle was the runner-up.

Throughout American Idol season 21, Colin put his own country spin on songs such as "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn, "It's Been Awhile" by Staind, "Hand in My Pocket" by Alanis Morissette, "Real Gone" from Cars, and "Nobody Knows" from Pete's Dragon. For someone with no prior experience performing, he took the competition by storm, getting better and better with every performance. There are many reasons why Colin deserved to win American Idol season 21, and why he didn't.

“We’re Working On It”: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry & Luke Bryan Reveal American Idol Season 22 Plans
Image
American Idol season 22 is already in the works, and current judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan are considering making a return to the show for a seventh time. The American Idol season 21 finale culminated with Iam Tongi being crowned the winner. Megan Danielle was the runner-up, while Colin Stough placed third. The judges discovered these three incredible talents along with many more during the Idol season 21 auditions. Other season stand-outs included Wé Ani and Zachariah Smith, who were Top 5 finalists.

In an interview with Et, Katy, Luke, and Lionel revealed their plans for their possible American Idol season 22 returns. Katy and Luke didn't give a lot of information about whether they've decided to come back to the show or not. After the finale ended, when asked if she was returning, Katy answered, "I don't know. I think we're gonna talk about it tonight at dinner." Luke was also cryptic in his response,...

Why Iam Tongi Is One Of American Idol’s Greatest Winners
Image
American Idol has crowned its season 21 winner, Iam Tongi, and it's time to talk about why he may be one of the show's strongest victors ever. Iam is an 18-year-old high school student. Originally from Kahuku, Hawaii, Iam relocated to Seattle, Washington. The move was motivated by being, "priced out of paradise," according to Iam, as per the show.

Iam became American Idol's most viral contestant when his audition clip was shared everywhere. Mourning the recent loss of his father, Iam sang a cover of James Blunt's "Monsters." The performance brought the judges to tears, and made Iam an early favorite to win the season. Iam performed an emotional rendition of the song at the finale, alongside James Blunt, and went on to win the competition, beating out country/Christian crooner Megan Danielle.

‘American Idol’: Will another country singer upset the presumed front-runner like Laine Hardy in Season 17?
Image
Could an upset be brewing on Season 21 of “American Idol”? All year fans have been forecasting Iam Tongi would take home the top prize, but he may not be the sure bet we’ve assumed. This season closely resembles a similar lineup up finalists from Season 17 when 18-year old country crooner Laine Hardy took down fan favorite Alejandro Aranda, who, like Iam, had become a viral sensation since his first audition.

This time around it’s 18-year old Mississippi native Colin Stough who has progressively grown his fanbase each week, delivering honky-tonk renditions of some of music’s most popular tunes. Like Laine, he was barely a blip on viewers’ radar in early rounds, but as judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie have pointed out, his star continues to rise.

Which American Idol Alums Are Returning To Perform & Mentor?
Image
American Idol season 21 is welcoming back some more extraordinary alums and a music superstar to inspire the newest contestants. So far this season, several former finalists returned to mentor the singers during the first round of Hollywood Week. Instead of the usual genre challenge, the contestants get to choose one of the three areas they wish to work on: confidence, songwriting, or stage presence.

American Idol season 2 and 7 runners-up Clay Aiken and David Archuleta helped to build the contestants' confidence. Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips and season 16 finalist Catie Turner worked with the singers on their songwriting. American Idol season 6 winner Jordin Sparks and season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini gave them advice about stage presence. Season 20 winner Noah Thompson was also there to offer his guidance. In addition to these returning finalists, singers Allen Stone and Noah Cyrus offered their expertise during the Top 26 Hawaii round. Now a few more American alums...

How Many Episodes American Idol Has Left
Image
American Idol season 21 is heading toward its finale, with less than a month to go before the new champion is crowned, and there are just six episodes left in the season. AI season 21 began with the auditions, during which the judges decided which contestants deserved tickets to Hollywood. After Hollywood Week, at Disney's Aulani Resort & Spa in Hawaii, the Top 26 contestants performed for America's votes for the first time. Singers Allen Stone and Noah Cyrus served as mentors for that round.

American Idol season 21 featured last year's winner Noah Thompson and runner-up HunterGirl performing on the April 23 episode. Motown legend Smokey Robinson also sang on that show. In addition, Hollywood Week round one brought back several alums as mentors, as the contestants chose one of three categories to work on. Clay Aiken and David Archuleta helped to build the contestants' confidence, while Phillip Phillips and Catie Turner worked with the singers on their songwriting.

4 Reasons Why American Idol Should Do Away With Platinum Tickets
Image
American Idol introduced platinum tickets to honor season 20, but the coveted prizes seem to be causing more problems than they're worth. The American Idol judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, give one talented recipient in each audition city the platinum ticket to indicate that they see a lot of potential in the contestant. It also gives each winner the privilege of skipping the first round of Hollywood Week. In season 20, they also had the advantage of choosing their duet partners during the second round. However, in season 21, everyone chose their own partners.

During American Idol season 20, HunterGirl, Jay Copeland, and Kenedi Anderson were given the platinum tickets. Kenedi withdrew from the competition for undisclosed reasons before the semifinals, while Jay placed in the Top 7. HunterGirl was the runner-up to winner Noah Thompson. In American Idol season 21, Tyson Venegas, Kaylin Hedges, and Cam Amen received platinum tickets, but the...

American Idol Should Show More Of Hollywood Week & Less Auditions
Image
American Idol season 21 is finished with its audition and Hollywood Week rounds, but the show should revise the amount of airtime devoted to each of them in the future. American Idol devoted six episodes to the auditions, which aired from February 19 through March 26. During Hollywood Week Part 1, seven alumni mentors returned to the show to coach the contestants in one of three categories: confidence (Clay Aiken and David Archuleta), stage presence (Justin Guarini and Jordin Sparks), or songwriting (Phillip Phillips and Catie Turner). Noah Thompson also appeared to help the contestants. All of this aired in just one episode.

American Idol season 21 then aired one episode that featured the duets challenge. The next two episodes included footage from the Showstoppers round, as each contestant learned their fate from judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan in the Final Judgment. The Top 26 will then perform from Disney's Aulani Resort in Hawaii over two nights,...
