The first live coast-to-coast episode of “American Idol” Season 22 aired on Sunday, April 21 on ABC, with the Top 14 contestants performing in front of host Ryan Seacrest, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and guest mentor Gene Simmons. American Idol has crowned its season 21 winner, Iam Tongi, and it's time to talk about why he may be one of the show's strongest victors ever. Iam is an 18-year-old high school student. Originally from Kahuku, Hawaii, Iam relocated to Seattle, Washington. The move was motivated by being, "priced out of paradise," according to Iam, as per the show.

Iam became American Idol's most viral contestant when his audition clip was shared everywhere. Mourning the recent loss of his father, Iam sang a cover of James Blunt's "Monsters." The performance brought the judges to tears, and made Iam an early favorite to win the season. During Colin's American Idol season 21 audition, Luke said that he was what American Idol was about, and Katy gushed that he had the magic in him. Luke said that the performance was, "raw, real, humble." The judges invited Colin's mom into the audition room, and awarded him with his golden ticket to Hollywood, after they all voted "yes." Colin has since made it to the American Idol Top 3, and will now compete with Megan Danielle and Iam Tongi for the win.

Could an upset be brewing on Season 21 of “American Idol”? All year fans have been forecasting Iam Tongi would take home the top prize, but he may not be the sure bet we’ve assumed. This season closely resembles a similar lineup up finalists from Season 17 when 18-year old country crooner Laine Hardy took down fan favorite Alejandro Aranda, who, like Iam, had become a viral sensation since his first audition.

Country music superstar and former judge Keith Urban will return for the American Idol season 21 finale as a mentor and performer. Keith is a Grammy Award-winning singer who became a judge American Idol season 12 in 2013, along with Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj. Keith returned for seasons 13, 14, and 15, which was American Idol's final season on Fox. He was joined by Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. for those seasons.

In an Instagram post, American Idol announced that Keith will be a mentor and guest performer on the American Idol season 21 finale.
