The Flash, which ran for 9 seasons, was one of the most successful shows in the Arrowverse and had a cast that many fans found very charming. Grant Gustin remains a popular choice as the Scarlet Speedster, and Candice Patton’s portrayal of Iris West is still praised by fans.
However, despite the strong cast, the show faced some controversies. For fans familiar with the comics, it’s known that Iris West is originally portrayed as white, but this was changed for the show, leading to backlash from some viewers.
Raceswapping has become more common in recent years as studios try to include more diversity in their casts, and it’s not just in superhero media. Some changes, like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, were mostly accepted, while others, like Candice Patton’s Iris West, faced strong backlash.

‘The Flash’ which ran for 9 seasons was one of the most successful ‘Arrowverse’ shows and according to many fans, it had the most charming cast. Grant Gustin is still one of the most notable actors to portray the Scarlet Speedster and Candice Patton’s portrayal of Iris West is still considered extraordinary among the fans.
However, despite the charming cast, the show wasn’t without its controversies. If you are an avid reader of ‘The Flash’ you are likely aware that Iris West is actually white in the comics. This is something that was changed for the show and it caused quite the backlash among certain fans.

From one Juliet to another, Rachel Zegler is speaking up about the horrible treatment of West End star Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.
As the Golden Globe winner makes her Broadway debut in the Sam Gold-directed Romeo + Juliet revival, opening Thursday at Circle in the Square Theatre for a 16-week engagement, Zegler called out the racist abuse the other “Juliet” received in a different production and the lack of protection she was provided.
After they were connected by her Snow White co-star Dujonna Gift, Zegler noted she texted her support to Amewudah-Rivers. “She responded and vocalized her thanks for people who stood up for her in the time where everybody was tearing her down,” she told Teen Vogue.
“I think she was failed by the people around her,” added Zegler. “You need to protect people when you make a vow to cast them in...

The Batman guy and the Spider-Man guy are teaming up.
Tom Holland is in talks to star in Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to his Best Picture winner “Oppenheimer,” Deadline reports.
Holland will reportedly join Matt Damon in the ensemble of the as-yet-untitled, shrouded-in-secrecy picture that’s rumored to be in the espionage genre. This will be Holland and Nolan’s first time working together. The film is expected to start filming in early 2025 and is scheduled to be released on July 17, 2026. Universal is the studio behind it.
The film will be Nolan’s second for Universal, after leaving his longtime studio home, Warner Bros., during Warners’ pandemic experiment of sending its theatrical movies to Max. His last film, “Oppenheimer,” won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. Matt Damon also starred in “Oppenheimer” as Gen. Tom Holland is in talks to join the cast of Christopher Nolan’s next film.
Should the deal go through, the “Spider-Man” actor would star alongside Matt Damon in the otherwise top-secret film. Nolan is writing and directing the movie, which Universal Pictures is releasing in theaters on July 17, 2026.
Universal had no comment about Holland’s casting.
The upcoming feature, which does not have a title, is expected to start shooting in early 2025, though Holland’s casting could prove challenging to production timelines. The actor, best known for playing Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be busy with “Spider-Man 4” and potentially the next “Avengers” sequel over the next year and change, as first noted by the Hollywood Reporter. In between stints as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, Holland appeared in the West End adaptation of “Romeo & Juliet” alongside Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.

Exclusive: Jamie Lloyd, director of the Broadway-bound Sunset Boulevard musical led by an incandescent Nicole Scherzinger center stage as Norma Desmond, is making a move into the world of movies and reveals to Deadline that his London-based Jamie Lloyd Company “will set up a separate film division and work with new partners from the film world.”
Lloyd met with us as he prepared to fly to New York this weekend to oversee rehearsals for Sunset Boulevard which begin on Monday.
He was also concerned about a fire that ripped through the roof of the west wing of the landmark Somerset House, a might 18th century palace that stretches from the Embankment to the Aldwych, where the Jamie Lloyd Company keeps a small suite of production offices. The fire was contained although it’s not yet known how much smoke and water damage the Jlc offices sustained.

As far as the three young women sitting in row E at London’s Bush Theatre were concerned, the name of the character Tosin Cole was playing in Benedict Lombe’s “spicy” love story Shifters, wasn’t Dre — short for Dream — but “Dreamboat.”
It’s a double whammy of love, well, sort of, for Cole, who also stars in Rapman’s game-changing Netflix drama Supacell, playing a love-struck south London courier who discovers he has developed superpowers.

The controversial adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet starring Tom Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers has finally premiered and the first reactions are coming in. Jamie Lloyd adapted this version and the director is known for his very modernized remakes of stage classics, and that fact has already caused some controversy in the theater circles. But, pairing Lloyd with Holland made the tickets sell, especially since this was Holland’s first return to the stage after Billy Elliot: The Musical, in which he appeared very early in his career. Even before the premiere, the show has been heavily discussed by fans due to the hate given to Juliet’s actress Francesca Amewudah-Rivers due to her skin color.
But, based on the early reviews that we have for you, it seems that Francesca Amewudah-Rivers completely outshined Holland, whose performance was described as disappointing, while Ameduwah-Rivers managed to stand out and...

There’s been a lot of heat around London’s new Romeo & Juliet, understandably so given its pairing of director Jamie Lloyd (Betrayal, A Doll’s House), known for his radical remodeling of classics, usually around A-list actors, with young global superstar Tom Holland. The latter is returning to the stage for the first time since Billy Elliot: The Musical at the very start of his career, his name causing tickets to sell out in just two hours.
It’s ironic, then, that one thing this production itself lacks is heat — romantic, dramatic, tragic heat. There is much to commend, but it suffers from a single, strategic mistake on the director’s part, to mute the action, quite literally, since much of it is played in whispers and mumbles; even miked, at times the actors are barely audible. The result is that this tale of violent family rivalry and courageous...

Tom Holland has given some of the best performances of his lifetime in star-studded projects like those from Marvel including the Avengers and the Spider-Man film series, and has even garnered a massive fan following. However, his latest project isn’t gaining the best of reviews from anyone, including not only critics but a considerable majority of his fandom as well.

The project that has been getting all this hate is his latest play Romeo and Juliet with Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, and one of the biggest reasons behind this backlash is only understandable: the glumness and lack of energy in the drama. However, even through such tough times, Holland has his biggest supporter and the love of his life still right by his side: Zendaya.

Not sure that I would equate Tom Holland and Zendaya with the same level of triple-a star firepower as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, but the last time I witnessed sheer frenzied pandemonium outside the Duke of York’s Theatre was when Taylor went to see Burton read excerpts from Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood in February 1982.
It was bonkers, with onlookers five deep on both sides of the street waiting for a glimpse of the superstar much-married Hollywood lovers.
Four decades on, I found myself at the same theatre that has stood on the site in St. Martin’s Lane since 1892.
This time it was the occasion of the official opening night for Jamie Lloyd’s stark, modern-dress production of Shakespeare’s The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, to give its full title, starring Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as the tragic star-crossed lovers.

Tom Rothman, the Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman and CEO, wined and dined a select few at a splendidly swish soirée Friday at Mamo Michelangelo in Antibes, hosted by Charles Finch as part of his annual Filmmakers Dinner honoring 100 years of Columbia Pictures, and there was something he said about why movies matter that has stuck with me.
Hours earlier, Rothman had introduced a gloriously restored print of Charles Vidor’s 1946 movie Gilda, starring Rita Hayworth as the eponymous nightclub temptress and Glenn Ford as the hardboiled gambler from her past.
They hate each other, but as we all know, that’s often a prelude on the road to love both in real and reel life.

That sweet and innocent-looking friendly neighborhood Spider-Man guy from Marvel, who rampaged about spilling spoilers during interviews out of excitement, seems to be gone now. In fact, he feels completely different after witnessing him with his on-stage love interest for the play, Francesca Amewudah-Rivers.

He added, “Yes, we’ve got to be representative, but I do think we have to be careful.

According to Zack Snyder, one of the most significant Dceu storylines seems to have originated from none other than Oscar-winning star Leonardo DiCaprio. The 49-year-old actor was once considered for the role of Lex Luthor, Superman’s greatest enemy. In an exclusive interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director disclosed that he had a meeting with the Titanic star to discuss the role in his 2016 superhero flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
However, Jesse Eisenberg ultimately won the role. Snyder also recalled that DiCaprio came up with the plan to pit Henry Cavill’s Superman against the Justice League. Sadly, the Dceu timeline came to an end in 2023 (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), capping ten years of superhero films that started with Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013).

It has been known for a while that the new West End production of William Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, will be returning to the Duke of York’s Theatre from May 11 through August 3, with Jamie Lloyd directing. But, more importantly for some fans, it has been confirmed that Spider-Man star Tom Holland will be playing Romeo in the play, with Bad Education star Francesca Amewudah-Rivers co-starring as Juliet. And while all of this seems fine and dandy to us, some people are dissatisfied with the fact that Juliet will be played by a black actress and have taken to the Internet to express their anger in the most deplorable way.

Rachel Zegler and Kit Connor will make their Broadway debuts in a new production of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet this fall.
The production will feature music by Grammy Award winner Jack Antonoff, who is also making his Broadway debut, movement by Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge! The Musical) and direction by Sam Gold. Exact dates and a theater have yet to be announced, but tickets are set to go on sale in May.
While few details have been released about this version of the Shakespeare classic, the production is using the tagline “The Youth Are Fucked” and promises an angrier take on the tale.
“With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting,” said Gold, who is helming this season’s An Enemy of the People.

Exclusive: Jamie Lloyd, director of the history-making reimagining of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard, reveals that his star Nicole Scherzinger initially “refused to consider” accepting his offer to play Norma Desmond in the show adapted from Billy Wilder’s 1950 classic.
“Nicole was not flattered,” he gasped, speaking to Breaking Baz backstage at the London theatre awards, held at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday night.
Lloyd says that the show’s “obviously associated with Glenn Close’s iconic performance and therefore people think about Norma Desmond being a much older woman.”
Mmm, that’s unlikely to amuse Glenn Close.
He tells me that Scherzinger, a one-time member of The Pussycat Dolls, called Norma Desmond a “has been” and stormed at Lloyd that she “still looks good under the bright lights.”
Lloyd encouraged her to study Don Black and Christopher Hampton’s book and lyrics and to listen to Lloyd Weber’s music.

Daniel Mays remembers Michael Douglas and Timothy Van Patten, the respectively star and director of new Apple TV drama Franklin, bursting into song whenever he appeared on set.
It came about because during the Franklin shoot in Paris, director Nicholas Hytner asked Mays to star at London’s Bridge Theatre as good old reliable Nathan Detroit in an immersive production of the classic Broadway fable Guys & Dolls by Frank Loesser, Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling.
Upon hearing this news, Douglas insisted, ”You’re doing it, Danny — no question about it.”
The adaption of Damon Runyon’s tales was Van Patten’s father’s favorite musical, “so then within the hour, more like a whole bloody second, every time I came on set, they kept playing ‘The Oldest Established [Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York], and Michael and Noah Jupe would join in.”
Even the French crew got in the swing of it.

Tom Holland’s above-the-title appearance in Romeo & Juliet will transfer to Broadway, according to an insider quoted in the UK press.
The Spider-man star’s return to London’s West End stage (where he starred in Billy Elliot The Musical as a boy) has seen tickets for the show at the Duke of York’s Theatre all sell out in under two hours.
Now, the UK’s Mirror newspaper reports that the Jamie Lloyd Company production will be transferring to New York once it finishes in London in August, following a 12-week run.
The Mirror quotes a source saying:
“Romeo & Juliet will head to Broadway after its London run, with details to be announced in due course. While director Jamie Lloyd has made a name for his minimalist adaptations of classic texts, the headline grabber for what is essentially yet another production of Romeo & Juliet is undoubtedly its leading man.
