There have been several dozen films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going strong and releasing multiple films almost every year since its beginning in 2008. The McU's overwhelming volume has inspired several conversations by pundits and critics, wherein they ponder the series as one of the longest-running in cinema history. It is, of course, by no means the longest. Indeed, a close study of cinema history will immediately reveal film franchises that handily outstrip it.
One might immediately think of Godzilla, for instance, a film series that has been chugging along pretty steadily since its debut in 1954. To date, there have been 38 feature films (in both Japan and America) in the "Godzilla" franchise. Some deep-cut kiddie-entertainment enthusiasts may be able to recall that there are already 43 animated movies to star Mattel's Barbie, and that's not even counting Greta Gerwig's live-action blockbuster. Those 43 movies were made between 2001 and the present.

A few months ago, rumors began circulating that Marvel Studios was developing a Midnight Sons project, reportedly connected to the upcoming Blade reboot. While the studio has yet to make an official announcement, a steady stream of updates has kept the project in the spotlight.
Previously, reports suggested that Logan writer Michael Green had been hired to pen the script. However, this was never officially confirmed by Marvel or other reliable sources.
Now industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that Michael Green is no longer a part of the project. Green is currently busy executively producing the ‘Blade Runner 2009’ series for Amazon Prime Video.
Marvel Studios recently announced that three rumored projects—Nova, Terror Inc., and Strange Academy—are no longer in active development. However, the studio has not confirmed nor denied the same for Midnight Sons.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had its major ups and downs over the course of more than a decade in theaters. Although the critical responses to recent films have seemed faulty, the world can't ignore just how major of a box office draw it has been. Its characters, from Iron Man to Loki, have all become iconic heroes and villains in pop culture. With the story so well-known and the characters so popular, fans might be surprised to learn that some of their favorite characters were meant to be killed off sooner than they were.
Whether in early versions of scripts or alternate cuts of movies, the story has the opportunity to change vastly before it officially debuts. As of now, with 35 films and 13 television shows, there were many different ideas and possibilities for when the audience's favorite characters could've bitten the dust. Although many of these characters have not...

Yesterday, we learned that Marvel Studios has “paused” the development of three shows they were planning for the Disney+ streaming service: Nova, which seemed to be relatively far along in the development process, with Edward Allen Bernero in the showrunner position and casting rumors swirling; Strange Academy, which was expected to star Benedict Wong as his Sorcerer Supreme character Wong, running a school in New Orleans to educate young individuals with magical abilities; and Terror, Inc., which I don’t think anyone had heard rumors about before, a show that would have centered on an antihero called Terror, “who possesses the ability to incorporate the body parts of others into his own form, gaining their memories and abilities.” During the latest episode of their podcast The Hot Mic, industry scooper Jeff Sneider and critic John Rocha discussed the news that these projects had been paused – and Sneider took the opportunity...

Marvel Studios has a lot of characters, teams, and stories to turn into interesting Disney Plus TV shows and big-budget movies. We’ve seen creators take characters like the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy and turn them into household names. It’s one of the reasons why projects such as Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror Inc. were reportedly planned to be future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
Unfortunately, it sounds like all three of those projects have been placed on hold. Deadline reports that "these projects were never officially greenlit, and may still come to fruition at some point" but that Marvel "has simply shifted its priorities at the moment.”
The post also added that the decision is reflective of the studio's more recent approach of not greenlighting any projects until a pilot is produced (the studio originally announced a Disney Plus project just as it would with a...

We got the disappointing news that Marvel Studios has decided to hit pause on three prospective Disney+ shows earlier today, and based on these new details, Nova, Terror Inc. and Strange Academy may have been a little further into development than we've previously been led to believe.
According to Deadline, none of the above projects had actually been given the green light, and "may still come to fruition at some point." Marvel is said to have "shifted its priorities," and Daniel Richtman believes this change in direction involves holding off "until they see a pilot they’re satisfied with. They also want to focus on grounded, and cheaper shows."
The reliable scooper has also shared what he's heard about all three projects, and it makes for very interesting reading.

Earlier today news broke that Marvel Studios is hitting pause on three shows that were apparently in development, Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. The reasons cited are general shifts in development strategy.
This shift in direction is part of a larger change in how Marvel approaches television. Unlike the past, where series development was handled like movie productions—with a list of announced projects almost guaranteed to be made—Marvel now follows a more traditional TV development process. This new model means the studio is working on many more ideas than will actually make it to the screen.
This change comes after Marvel’s leadership decided to rethink how it develops shows, especially as they rework the Daredevil: Born Again series. The idea is to be more cautious, focusing on a smaller number of projects to avoid over-saturating the market with superhero content.
Now industry insider, Daniel Richtman shared...

Marvel Television has put development on hold for three upcoming TV series: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. While these shows were never officially confirmed, we covered them extensively in the past via various inside scoops and leaks. Sources have revealed that they’re currently not moving forward. However, there’s still a possibility they could be picked up later.
The ‘Nova’ news is especially shocking taking into account how Winderbaum praised the direction of the show just a few weeks ago while confirming that the show has existed early development stage and is shaping up nicely.

While many people feel that Marvel movies need to get back on a cohesive track, their television division has faced their own issues. Back in 2023, it was revealed that Daredevil: Born Again was going to be completely retooled after Kevin Feige and Marvel execs were not satisfied with the direction the anticipated show was heading in. The major overhaul echoed the infamous reshoots that the recent Captain America: Brave New World had gone through. As audiences wait with crossed fingers that Daredevil: Born Again comes out unscathed by the retooling, Deadline now reports that Marvel Television has paused the development of three planned shows: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc.
According to Deadline’s sources, these shows were never officially given the greenlight. However, even with Marvel pausing the development, they have left the door open to possibly revisit them in the future. The company has simply decided to reshift their focus onto other projects.

Marvel Television has paused development on Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc., adjusting its production lineup as the studio focuses on its next phase. These projects had been in development but were never officially approved for production. The shift follows the release of Captain America: Brave New World and ongoing preparations for Avengers: Doomsday.
The Nova series had been moving forward with writers and a showrunner attached, though casting had not begun. The character’s connection to the Nova Corps, introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, made it a project of interest, but no further expansion will take place at this time.
Strange Academy was planned as a series featuring Wong (Benedict Wong) training young sorcerers. Wong has appeared in multiple Marvel projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. With the series no longer proceeding, no details have been shared about the character’s next appearance.

Marvel Television has reportedly paused its development of three projects: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. The three shows may still be made in the future.
Deadline reports that Marvel's decision to pull back on the three series is due to a shift in the studio's model for producing television series. Sources stressed that Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc. were "never officially greenlit," so they may still come to fruition down the road- but the studio has "shifted its priorities at the moment." The change in Marvel's production efforts began a few years ago, when senior leadership began revamping the Daredevil: Born Again series and its development process.

Marvel Television boss Brand Winderbaum warned that the studio is now "developing more than we make" and Deadline brings word today that Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. have all been shelved.
According to the trade, none of these projects were ever officially greenlit and "may still come to fruition at some point." It's said that, for the time being, "[Marvel Studios] has simply shifted its priorities."
Part of the reason work on these shows has been paused is the new approach Marvel is taking to developing TV shows. Originally, they were handled like movies; a "Head Writer" was appointed to pen the series, with a director (or directors) then coming in to helm the action.
That approach didn't quite work and neither did attempts to do the usual reshoots once production wrapped. It was too pricey and led to a dip in quality; Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was...

Marvel has seen mixed results when it comes to its TV offerings in the MCU on Disney+. Although Loki was a hit with critics and audiences alike, other shows like Secret Invasion failed to stick the landing. Daredevil: Born Again already seems it could be a major win for the streaming service, but the studio is taking more measures to limit potential risks. A new report claims that Marvel Studios has decided to stop development on some of its most long-awaited projects, including the Nova series.
Deadline reports that Marvel has decided to indefinitely shelve three upcoming television projects — Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. While sources tell the trade outlet that the shows were not actually greenlit (and could still happen), they also hear that the major change in the upcoming slate comes as a result of a change in philosophy when it comes to the TV side of the MCU.

Exclusive: Marvel Television has paused development on three projects: Nova, Strange Academy and Terror, Inc.
Sources stressed to Deadline that these projects were never officially greenlit, and may still come to fruition at some point. The studio has simply shifted its priorities at the moment.
We’re told the decision is also reflective of a new model for producing television that’s emerged at Marvel in recent years. Originally, Marvel approached series development in much the same way it handled features: a slate was announced, and what was teased was more or less what got made. A couple of years ago, senior leadership decided to retool the development process, as they were also revamping their new Daredevil series, Born Again.

Hong Kong International Film Festival Society’s (Hkiff) Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf) has unveiled a slate of 25 in-development projects for its 23rd edition, with renowned auteur Kore-eda Hirokazu among the heavyweight filmmakers backing emerging talent.
Among the highlights is “Yellow,” directed by newcomer Yamaura Miyoh and produced by Kore-eda. The film follows a man living in self-punishment after a fatal car accident who finds redemption through his relationship with his deceased friend’s young son.
The selection showcases several established filmmakers nurturing new voices. Sylvie Pialat and Nai An are backing Hu Wei’s “49 Days,” about a divorced Chinese couple reuniting in Paris to arrange their son’s funeral. Aditya Vikram Sengupta is producing Niladri Mukherjee’s debut “Republic of Mahalaxmi Apartment,” which examines India’s majority rule issues through the story of a single mother who becomes her housing estate’s public enemy after flagging a malfunctioning elevator.

Strange Academy is a newer Marvel Comics concept as the team didn't debut until 2020. Created by writer Scottie Young and artist Humberto Ramos, the series plays out in Doctor Strange's corner of the Marvel Universe.
It began with the Sorcerer Supreme establishing a school to train young sorcerers and magic users in the arts of the mystic arts. The school is located in New Orleans, with Doctor Voodoo, Zelma Stanton, Scarlet Witch, and Man-Thing among those who have served on the faculty.
The students, meanwhile, include mostly new characters, though some of them have ties to much bigger names. For example, there's Doyle Dormammu, the "son" of Dormammu, Enchantress' son, Alvi Brorson, and a Frost Giant called Guslaug.
We've known for a while that Marvel Studios is working on a Strange Academy TV series and scooper @MyTimeToShineH has just shared a big update.

The 21st century has been wonderful for fans of Marvel live-action productions. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the Fox X-Men series, the MCU… you name it. Before that, the situation outside the comics was a mess. While DC was doing well, Marvel was struggling to get something decent going. In the ‘70s, a decision was made to focus on the small screen, so shows like The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spider-Man were made, but they weren't hits for the ages. The third production was even worse.
There were high hopes for Dr. Strange when it aired as a CBS movie on Sept. 6, 1978. The idea of the movie was conceived by writer, director, and producer Philip DeGuere, best known for his later work in Magnum P.I., Jag, and NCIS. According to Jessica Walter, who played the villain, Morgan Le Fay, DeGuere “wanted everything to be perfect.” Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

It has also made Marvel history by telling that saga's story across film and television, through the arrival of the various Disney Plus shows.
The Multiverse Saga has been setting the wheels in motion for Doctor Doom's arrival as he will pose a threat so great that it will be up to the disbanded Avengers to reunite to take him down. As we ponder if the rest of the world will ever see Wong Kar-wai’s 25-hour project Blossoms Shanghai following its premiere in China about a year ago, those in the country will get a chance to experience an expanded edition of his 2000 masterpiece In the Mood for Love very soon.
In celebration of the film’s 25th anniversary, a new 4K remastered edition of In the Mood for Love will arrive in China, fittingly, on Valentine’s Day. While it’s unclear if it will be the same recent (and controversially green-tinged) restoration that Janus Films released, this new edition will feature 9 minutes and 9 seconds of never-before-seen footage, local media reports. It’s not yet confirmed what the new footage will entail, but reports indicate it may include the sex scene between Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung that was deleted but revealed in promotional stills.

Avengers: Endgame had its share of memorable moments, but one sequence in particular will go down as one of the most iconic and enduring scenes in MCU history.
During the climactic battle, Thanos manages to defeat Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America - but Steve Rogers isn't about to stay down. As the Sentinel of Liberty dusts himself off and prepares to fight until his last breath, he hears Sam Wilson's familiar "on your left," and turns around to see Black Panther and the rest of the recently-revived heroes assembling through Doctor Strange and Wong's mystical portals.
The "Portals" sequence has had such a lasting impact that it might be difficult to imagine it playing out any other way, but co-director Joe Russo has now revealed that the original idea for the scene was quite different - and he had to fight for the version we saw in the finished film.

Marvel Studios has faced its fair share of challenges since the Multiverse Saga began. For starters, the studio has had to contend with a change of CEOs at Disney, a pandemic, and 2023's Hollywood strikes.
It's no wonder then that these last couple of Phases have felt a tad disjointed. New characters have been introduced in movies and TV shows only to be M.I.A. ever since. Meanwhile, sequels and threequels which once seemed a given have yet to materialise.
Today, insider Daniel Richtman brings word that neither Doctor Strange 3 nor Shang-Chi 2 will start shooting until 2026.
It's unclear whether Destin Daniel Cretton plans to move straight from Spider-Man 4 to the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel, though it's certainly possible. As for the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness follow-up, it's previously been reported that Sam Raimi will return to direct.

Marvel Studios produced two of its strongest live-action TV shows for Disney Plus last year. Echo started things on a much more mature note, showcasing what the Marvel Cinematic Universe could do with a TV-ma rating, while Agatha All Along earned the franchise the acclaim it once constantly received for harkening back to the Emmy-nominated days of WandaVision. It's a good indication of how the MCU has managed to stabilize its somewhat flawed approach to small screen stories over the past few years, and it bodes well for the next generation of shows from the franchise.
Things are continuing to look up for the franchise too, as the next Disney Plus series is none other than Daredevil: Born Again. The revival of the Daredevil Netflix series that has been nearly a decade in the making, the first trailer has been unveiled and it's clear that it's looking to channel its...

Beef Season 2 incorporates yet another star. The announcement was made one day after Beef was confirmed to return exclusively to Netflix for a second season with a whole new cast. The latest addition to the beefy cast is none other than Youn Yuh-jung, the Academy Award-winning Korean actor known for films like Minari and the Apple TV+ series Pachinko.
A few years ago, Youn won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in 2020's Minari, the semi-autobiographical drama by Lee Isaac Chung. She was the first Korean actress to win awards from several organizations, and she would probably have won more if it hadn't been for the eligibility inconsistencies that some of those organizations have. Per Deadline, the actor joins the stellar cast announced yesterday, which includes Oscar Isaac, Cailee Spaeny, Carey Mulligan, and Charles Melton.

Taking inspiration from the comic book of the same name, the plot of Avengers: Secret Wars is likely to see all the McU's most prominent heroes and villains together on a fabricated Battleworld at the behest of the all-powerful Beyonder. As such, the film has the opportunity to include some hotly-anticipated returns of long-dormant characters.
