Jon Miyahara, known for his role as Brett on the NBC comedy “Superstore,” has passed away at the age of 83. He appeared regularly throughout all six seasons of the show, playing a quiet but memorable member of the Cloud 9 team. The cause of his death has not been made public.
The news was shared by fellow cast member Colton Dunn, who played Garrett on the show. Dunn posted on Instagram, “John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John.”

Jon Miyahara, the beloved actor behind Superstore’s most unshakeable employee, has died. He was 83. Miyahara, who portrayed the stoic and mostly silent Brett Kobashigawa on NBC’s hit workplace comedy from 2015 to 2021, was remembered by castmate Colton Dunn in an Instagram post shared earlier this week. Dunn confirmed the news but did not reveal a cause of death or specific date. “Jon was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look,” Dunn wrote. “He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. Jon Miyahara, who recurred as the stoic, mostly silent Cloud 9 employee Brett Kobashigawa on all six seasons of NBC’s 2015-2021 workplace comedy Superstore, has died. He was 83.
His death was confirmed on Instagram by Superstore cast mate Colton Dunn. Neither a cause of death nor specific date of death was cited.
Dunn wrote that Miyahara “was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them.”
Appearing in all but eight of the series’ 113 episodes, Miyahara rarely spoke, his character most often providing silent, deadpan stares as punctuation to comic or outlandish scenes. His only memorable line of dialogue – “Oh, shit” – coming when a tornado tore through the store.

Jonah and his fellow retail employees better work on their resumes — because it sure sounds like they’ll be out of a job soon.
NBC has released a pair of synopses for Superstore‘s one-hour series finale (airing Thursday, March 25) which, coupled with a “surprise visit” the previous week, would suggest that Cloud 9 — or, at the very least, the Ozark Highlands store — is on the verge of closure.

No one loves a great scene more than the person who first dreamed it up -- the writer. We're asking iconic shows' creators and writers to tell Et all about getting to see their most cherished moment on their series make it from script to screen.
For Superstore creator and executive producer Justin Spitzer, it’s a standout moment at the end of season two, when a tornado hits the St. Louis-based Cloud 9 big-box store. The scene, an unexpected turn in the latter of episode’s storyline, is not only ambitious in size and scale -- the show destroys the store, after all -- but also what it does for the many characters, including Amy (America Ferrera) and Jonah (Ben Feldman), who finally kiss after two season of building flirtation and chemistry; devout Christian Glenn (Mark McKinney) praying to multiple gods; Dina (Lauren Ash) and Garrett (Colton Dunn) realizing there may be more to their relationship...

Whether you’re looking for practical acting advice or for an evening of improvised entertainment, Eric Stonestreet’s ongoing shows at iO West Theater fit the bill. On Oct. 10, Nov. 14, and Dec. 12, the “Modern Family” funny man will be joined by Michael Bunin and Dana Powell—his former improv teammates at the Los Angeles comedy venue—for a show that combines career-oriented questions from the audience and long-form riffs on Stonestreet’s responses. “It’s a fun and nurturing environment,” Stonestreet told Backstage. “You’re in the hands of experienced people who have all done and felt the way you’re feeling.” The evening’s format allows for both thoughtful and honest responses to real actorly questions, and the impeccable comic stylings of three pros onstage. “We’ve played together before,” said Stonestreet of Bunin, a longtime commercial and guest star, and Powell, who co-stars on “Modern Family” as Stonestreet’s sister.

An impressive total of 10.1 million people watched Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl premiere last night. I was one of them. And an extraordinarily large number of people enjoyed the show. I was not one of them.
Admittedly, I was predisposed to not liking it. Though I enjoyed blonde Deschanel in Elf, I have disliked mostly everything brunette Deschanel has done in recent years. That is, besides The Happening, because it’s impossible to dislike a movie that awesomely awful. So while my love for The Happening led me to laugh at the sight of Deschanel falling over a plant in...

Well, send me straight to Crowley’s, PopWatchers, because I need a drink. Why? Because not only am I lamenting my decision to tape the VMAs over the My Boys season finale Sunday (curse you, ever-addictive time-slot competitor Mad Men!), but now my grief has been amplified upon finding out it was a series finale I missed. Yep, TBS has decided to cancel its charming laugher My Boys.

No season five for Pj and the guys. As expected, TBS has cancelled My Boys after four seasons on the air.
My Boys revolves around Chicago sports writer Pj Franklin (Jordana Spiro) and her close group of male friends. Castmembers include Jamie Kaler, Jim Gaffigan, Kellee Stewart, Kyle Howard, Michael Bunin, and Reid Scott.
It's been suspected for awhile that TBS wasn't going to bring the show back for a fifth season but the cable channel wouldn't confirm it. Speculation was that TBS execs feared that, by admitting the show was ending without a true series finale, not as many viewers would tune in. As it is, an average of only 784,000 people tuned in to see the last two installments.
That decision ultimately cost Spiro and Howard jobs on new NBC shows, Love Bites and Perfect Couples. They were...

Tonight, TBS kicks off the fourth season of the My Boys sitcom. Will it be back for a fifth season? Some of the actors expect it be cancelled but TBS doesn't agree -- not yet anyway.
My Boys revolves around sportswriter Jane "Pj" Franklin (Jordana Spiro) who has several close friends that are mostly guys. They include her brother Andy (Jim Gaffigan), competing sportswriter Bobby (Kyle Howard), DJ Brendan Dorff (Reid Scott), commitment-challenged Mike (Jamie Kaler), socially inept Kenny (Michael Bunin), and Stephanie Layne (Kellee Stewart), a fellow female writer.
The show began in November 2006. It was successful enough to be renewed for seasons two, three, and four but TBS only ordered nine installments each time. Anticipating a cancellation this time around, several in the cast have found other work, or at least they've tried to.

Four years ago, TV audiences were introduced to Betsy Thomas’ My Boys, a new TBS sitcom set in Chicago about a female sportswriter and her merry band of brewski-loving (male) best pals. And, even back then, we knew we were watching something different. The series, filled with its awkward silences and an endless supply of baseball metaphors, was certainly off-beat — so much so that it felt off-putting to some reviewers, like EW’s former TV critic Gillian Flynn, who placed the show on her Worst of TV list back in 2006. Fast-forward two years later, and Flynn was apologizing to the...

Being "one of the guys" can be hard work -- all that ping-pong playing, beer drinking, Espn watching ... it's tiring even just typing that.
But Jordana Spiro easily traverses Guy Land in her fourth season as the star of TBS' comedy, 'My Boys.' Her character, sportswriter Pj, goes toe to toe (and beer for beer) with boyfriend Bobby (Kyle Howard) and a cadre of male friends (Michael Bunin, Jamie Kaler, Reid Scott). For some female companionship, she's got Bff Stephanie -- who recently started dating one of those guys, Kenny (Bunin).
Spiro talked to TV Squad recently about the changes to the group in season 4 (premieres Sun., July 25 at 10Pm Et), getting her ping-pong on, the sport she obsessed over this year and Conan O'Brien's move to TBS.

Chicago – The writing on “My Boys” can still be overly self-aware of its perceived cleverness but the ensemble has developed to such an extent that they’ve reached level of talent that can overcome the occasional weak punchline or false character moment. These talented actors have finally gelled into the fine-tuned comedy ensemble that they always threatened to be and you couldn’t ask for better drinking buddies on a Sunday night this summer.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
Part of the problem with the first few seasons of “My Boys” was that it wasn’t a true ensemble show. It felt like Jordana Spiro’s vehicle and the rest of the cast were merely playing off her lead. If you just saw the first two episodes of the fourth season, you’d have no idea that this was “her show.” Everyone is finally on the same level, turning the series into a...

I didn’t know what to expect when I walked into Molly Malone’s. I do know that I am excited for the upcoming season of My Boys as it returns to TBS on March 31st. On top of it being a great and funny show, the cast is composed of some talented, cool people. I was lucky enough to meet most of them before last season and looked forward to another chat. Molly Malone’s back room, where musicians usually perform, had a series of small tables set up with Connect Four, Operation, Monopoly and Jenga. More 'Boys' in TBS lineup next season
TBS is looking to bring its comedy series My Boys, which had its season finale Monday night, back for a second season.
The cable network confirmed Monday that it is in talks for another season of the series from Sony Pictures Television, Pariah and Two Out Rally Prods. SPT declined comment.
My Boys debuted Nov. 28 as TBS' first original scripted comedy. In December, the network ordered nine additional episodes of the show, bringing the total number to 22. Those episodes debuted July 30, with back-to-back installments averaging 1.6 million total viewers, off only slightly from November's back-to-back series premiere (1.7 million) but up 4% in the adults 18-34 demo.
My Boys, starring Jordana Spiro as a twentysomething sportswriter who spends a lot of time with her male friends, is executive produced by writer-creator Betsy Thomas, Jamie Tarses and Gavin Polone. Jim Gaffigan, Kyle Howard, Reid Scott, Michael Bunin, Jamie Kaler and Kellee Stewart round out the cast.
