Thunder wasn’t considered a box office hit upon its release (making $157 million globally with a production budget of $60 million), and the film received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics. But having revived and modernized 1986’s Top Gun with 2022’s blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, the actor believes he can work similar magic with his racing drama (which, like the original Top Gun, was a Paramount film produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Tony Scott). A Thunder revival has been floated before — Paramount once pitched a reboot of the title as a TV show for Paramount+, an idea that Cruise nixed.

Marvel Studios would benefit from using the original concept for the first Thor movie in the MCU in the as-yet-unconfirmed Thor 5. Chris Hemsworth's Thor is currently the only MCU hero to have been gifted four solo movies, but not all of these installments have been well-received. While Thor: Ragnarok received huge acclaim, each of Thor's other live-action adventures have received criticism for various reasons. For 2011's Thor and its 2013 sequel, The Dark World, the serious, stoic tones of the hero were criticized, but this was almost even more prevalent.

Many of the beloved characters that populate the God of Thunder's solo film franchise were present in the movie, which saw a successful theatrical release on July 8, 2022. Of course, star Chris Hemsworth reprised his role as the titular god, making him an actor with one of the longest-continuous portrayals of a superhero. Additionally, Natalie Portman returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise her role as scientist Jane Foster, Thor's primary love interest.

Thor: Love and Thunder didn't only rock figuratively. Korg was amid the myriad of characters who made their way back onto the silver screen via the MCU. Audiences first met the delightfully simple-minded rock monster when he was first introduced to Marvel fans in Thor: Ragnarok. Korg was an unwilling combatant in the Grandmaster's (Jeff Goldblum) Contest of Champions.

Since his introduction, Korg has proven a valuable ally to Thor.

Hemsworth - who has played Marvel Studios' Thor for more a decade at this point - looked to be pondering superhero retirement after the less-than-stellar reception to 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder.
