Updated: Donald Trump returned to the Oval Office to sign a series of pardons and executive orders, including his promise to delay implementation of a law restricting TikTok.

The order delays implementation of a law for 75 days, Trump said, as he said that he was determined to find a buyer and work out an arrangement in which the U.S. owns 50% of the platform.

Trump said that the order “gives him the right to sell it or close it,” although he said that he may need to get an approval from China. He insisted that “TikTok is worthless if I don’t approve it.”

The parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, has given no indication that it was willing to sell the social media platform since Congress passed the divest-or-be-banned law in an overwhelming bipartisan vote last week.

Update: Donald Trump defended his personal attacks on Kamala Harris, despite some suggestions from allies that he focus on issues of the economy and the border.

“I think I am entitled to personal attacks,” Trump told reporters at a press conference at his golf club in Bedminster, NJ. “I don’t have a lot of respect for her.”

Trump noted that Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, have been engaged in their own personal attacks, calling him and Jd Vance “weird.”

The press conference appeared to be a Trump campaign effort to get the candidate to do a bit of a reset. For the first 50 minutes or so, Trump read from notes, hammering Harris on the economy as well as the border and crime. Behind him were props of household goods, designed to emphasize the rise in prices during the Biden administration.

But Trump often meandered into different subjects.

The three major news networks all carried Donald Trump’s remarks reacting to the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision Monday that states cannot deny him access to the ballot.

In doing do, Trump was given a platform to blast prosecutors and judges in other cases, and to make unfounded claims that President Joe Biden has been engaging in a “weaponization” of the Justice Department.

“President Biden, number one, stop weaponization. Fight your fight yourself. Don’t use prosecutors and judges to go after your opponent so you can win an election,” Trump said in his remarks from Mar-a-Lago.

Trump used the occasion to also argue that he should be immune from prosecution in the January 6th federal conspiracy case, something the Supreme Court will consider next month. But he also suggested that Biden orchestrated his legal woes, even at the state level.

In a speech on Tuesday night by Donald Trump in Texas, CNN decided to interrupt their live coverage to cite multiple false statements Trump made that needed to be corrected.

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins pointed out Trump’s misrepresentation of his own actions on border security while he was in office, and highlighted the need for accuracy. In conversation with CNN’s fact-checker Daniel Dale, Collins highlighted several lies in Trump’s speech.

One such falsehood was Trump’s claim that people from jails and mental institutions were being released and transported across the border. Collins noted that despite the lack of evidence provided by the Trump campaign, he continues to repeat this falsehood. Dale also debunked Trump’s assertion that many border crossers speak unknown languages and stated the claim to be a fabrication with no basis in reality.

Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany took an obtuse approach Wednesday to covering Donald Trump’s win in the New Hampshire primary — and the lies he told in his victory speech — focusing instead on how other news networks covered the comments.

McEnany, in the opening segment of her “Outnumbered” news talk show, attempted to shame MSNBC and CNN for not similarly covering President Joe Biden’s speeches.

“The media, they had a rather interesting decision to double down on not showing President Trump’s victory speech in full,” McEnany said before greeting her viewers and introducing fellow “Outnumbered” panelists Emily Compagno and Harris Faulkner. They were also joined by guests: former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon and Democratic campaign strategist Kevin Walling.

Update: CNN cut away from Donald Trump’s post-arraignment at Mar-a-Lago shortly before it ended, with anchor Anderson Cooper calling it a “reprise of every grievance” by the former president.

Fox News carried the 25-minute speech, while MSNBC skipped it, with Rachel Maddow telling viewers that it was a rehash of his grievances of the past.

Trump’s speech was a bit of a test for the networks in how they will handle his presidential campaign, after criticism over the way that Trump’s rallies were given extensive, unfiltered airtime in the 2016 cycle compared to his GOP rivals. His speech tonight had the added justification of coming on the day of his unprecedented arrest and arraignment, but Maddow told viewers, “We don’t consider it newsworthy and there is a cost to us as a news organization of knowingly broadcasting untrue things.”

Daniel Dale, Independent Entertainment’s former head of acquisitions and development, passed away last month at the age of 42.

Dale first joined Independent in 2005 in a junior role before being quickly promoted to work on all of the company’s development projects as well as acquisitions for the international side of the business.

President Joe Biden is set to deliver his second State of the Union speech before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday: “The president will underscore the progress we have made during one of the most challenging times…in history.”

Donald Trump did draw the media spotlight for his presidential announcement speech on Tuesday, but the networks varied in how they approached the event, carrying parts of it and cutting away at others.

The coverage perhaps offers a glimpse of how Trump will be covered as he embarks on his third presidential bid — certainly a top story, but not the only one.

Trump promoted the speech as “one of the most important ones in the history of our country,” but the networks alternated their focus on other stories throughout the day. That included the missile hit on Poland that, just minutes before Trump took the stage, put the focus on his nemesis, President Joe Biden.

CNN carried the speech from Mar-a-Lago for more than 20 minutes before cutting away when Trump made the official announcement. Anderson Cooper then went to a fact check with Daniel Dale, a fixture during the 2020 election cycle.

CNN’s new morning show CNN This Morning launched Tuesday with a news-heavy three hours that nevertheless played up an essential element of rival shows: conversation and chemistry.
