Hey! Millennials! Wanna hear something scary? Somehow, it's been 22 whole years since Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan first swapped bodies in Mark Waters' pop-punk driven noughties classic Freaky Friday, a fan-favourite remake of Disney's own 1976 Jodie Foster starrer. Wanna hear something exciting though? Two decades on and Jlc and Lohan are back back back for Freakier Friday, a full-on legacy sequel from The High Note and Late Night director Nisha Ganatra. And, as the title (which we called!) suggests, things are about to get a whole lot freakier for Tess and Anna Coleman second time around. Check out the trailer below and you'll see what we mean;
Pink Slip are back! Chad Michael Murray is back! And all the memories of Freaky Friday are coming back to us all at once — along with the sobering realisation that Lindsay Lohan is now just seven years younger than Jamie Lee...

Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel Legend of Korra have shown us time and time again that the Avatar’s life is often one rife with pain, suffering, and tragedy. While this might just be the nature of the world that the characters exist in, a theory suggests that the Avatar might actually be cursed for funding Raava and causing a disbalance between the worlds of man and spirit.
Avatar Wan – The First Avatar || Credit: Nickelodeon
Before Avatar Wan, the progenitor of the Avatar Cycle, there was no being that could master the four elements, much less be a medium between the spirits and races of men. However, Wan, in fusing with Raava, might have made himself into a necessary linchpin, one that was cursed by the spirits to face tragedy, after tragedy, after tragedy.

Longlegs established its director and writer, Osgood Perkins, as an exciting and influential voice within the horror genre while upending traditional Hollywood marketing models with a guerrilla promotional campaign featuring cipher codes and a creepy hotline. With the box-office success of Longlegs, there was a strong sense of anticipation for Perkins’ latest film, the comedy horror film The Monkey, which was acquired for distribution prior to the theatrical release of Longlegs.
Based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story of the same name, The Monkey stars Theo James as twin brothers whose lives are continually haunted by the enduring presence of a cursed toy monkey, which causes random horrific deaths around the brothers. The film was co-produced by James Wan, Hollywood’s foremost creator of horror franchises based on supernatural objects. The Legend of Korra is the beloved sequel to one of Nickelodeon's most popular animated series. Korra and Aang are different people but are equally passionate about their role as the Avatar. Despite being slightly older, Korra often displays less maturity than her younger predecessor. Korra frequently decides without fully weighing the consequences, which has allowed her to be easily manipulated. Although she is less spiritual than her Airbending ancestor initially, she makes one of the most significant changes to the Spirit World since her original iteration, Avatar Wan.
Directly after the Harmonic Convergence, Korra keeps the portals between the Physical and Spirit Worlds active. This decision might have had disastrous consequences for the mortal realm. While travel between the worlds is eventually discouraged, it is entirely possible. Both animated Avatar adaptions have established a variety of dominant and evil spirits who live within the Spirit Realm. Korra's spur-of-the-moment decision means Spirits like Koh,...

Avatar: The Last Airbender's newest sequel, Avatar: Seven Havens, is ramping up to be a game-changer in the Avatar franchise. Not only is the world now on the brink of ruin, but the Avatar is wanted by humans and spirits alike as "Humanity's Destroyer." The continuation is set up to change everything we know about the Avatar's role and even the Avatar Cycle itself with how The Legend of Korra ended things.
The Avatar is supposed to bring balance to the world, but whatever happened between Korra's life and the present series has fundamentally changed the Avatar's role. No longer is the Avatar a hero, but someone who brought catastrophe to the four kingdoms and even the spirit world. With the state of things, the next Avatar will have the hands full, especially with only Avatar Korra to guide them.

Horror fans will be happy to know that one of the most dependable franchises of the decade is now available to stream for free. Insidious and three of its four sequels have now been unleashed for your streaming pleasure. The free streaming platform Tubicontinues to kill it at bringing hidden gems and beloved classics to the masses. Browsing the Tubi catalog somehow feels like strolling the aisles of a video store, which, for the kids out there, was a building that had physical copies of movies you could rent and is now probably a vape store.
The first Insidious film, which was made by directing and writing super-team, James Wan and Leigh Whannell - who have collaborated on this franchise as well as the original Saw film - was a sleeper hit that, on a meager 1.5 million dollar budget, managed to earn 100 million worldwide at the box office.

The animated world of Avatar: The Last Airbenderand The Legend of Korra features the awesome power of the Avatar state as the ultimate expression of elemental bending and spiritual power. Avatar Aang and Avatar Korra were often seen going into the Avatar State either by instinct or on purpose, and the power of the Avatar State could usually save the day. Interestingly, however, the Avatar State was often as terrifying as it was heroic.
Each Avatar, from Wan to Korra, bore an immense responsibility to use the Avatar State wisely and not abuse it, and most of all, the Avatar is most vunerable while using the Avatar State's powers. It is often scary when Aang or Korra use the power of the Avatar State, since each of them almost ended the Avatar Cycle by accident while in that mode. In other cases, Aang and Korra were scary because of what...

Sometimes, when it comes to adapting Stephen King's novels for film or television, unmade is better.
There have been plenty of triumphs and many wipeouts, but the ones that sting the most tend to be the adaptations that bring a paucity of vision to his most expansive works. There have been two miniseries made out of King's post-apocalyptic masterpiece "The Stand," but they fell well short due to either budget constraints and/or simple timidity. If you're going to take on a book that's so celebrated and massive, why start from a place where you know you'll be cutting corners? It's encouraging to know that a major filmmaker like James Wan, who can secure a substantial budget due to his blockbuster success with franchises like "The Conjuring" and "The Fast and the Furious," wants to take a crack at "The Stand," but the material is so tainted at this...

The Legend of Korra made waves with its finale back in 2014 for keeping the Spirit Portal open. In doing so, Korra may have just doomed the world in more ways than one. With the upcoming release of Avatar: Seven Havens, the new series has confirmed the worst for the Avatar. The world is on the brink of ruin after a devastating cataclysm and, instead of being viewed as the world's savior, the Avatar is now humanity's destroyer.
It's safe to say Korra's actions in allowing spirits and humans to mingle freely may not have been the best choice after all. Especially for the Avatar's reputation. There's a reason Avatar Wan separated both worlds to prevent violence and keep the balance. Ultimately, Korra's choice tarnished not only her legacy, but that of the Avatar as the destroyer of humanity.

For some hardcore cinephiles, there's no greater pleasure than digging into the roots of some of their favorite filmmakers. It's often a highly illuminating experience to see the first cinematic efforts of directors who go on to bigger and better things. Whether it takes them a few features to build up to the height of their powers, or if they came storming out of the gate with originality and attitude to spare, there's usually some kind of overarching story of these filmmakers and their craft to be discovered when watching these early works.
If you can find them at all, that is. While most young filmmakers these days are used to growing up in a world where their baby pictures are still posted on their social media accounts, the analog days of yore meant old media could not only be lost, but become lost for good. That risk goes double...

The Avatar: The Last Airbenderfranchise features several influential and visionary characters who drastically reshaped the world around them, both positively and negatively. Some are historical men like Avatar Wan, who helped shape the Avatar Cycle, and villains like Fire Lord Sozin, who took the Fire Nation down a dark path via conquest and military-minded industrialization. Plenty of women also helped make history or inspire the people around them with their actions, words, or both.
Aang's and Korra's eras included noteworthy women who weren't content with the status quo and sought to change how the world works and impact the lives of those around them. Some of Avatar's most influential female characters did this by leading nations and changing official policy. Others became titans of industry or made influential decisions about the possibilities of how bending should -- or shouldn't --work.

There have been a lot of movies and TV shows based on the works of author Stephen King, but there are also still a good number of King stories that have slipped through the cracks and never received an adaptation. For example, the short story The Monkey has been around for over forty years, but it’s only just now getting the big screen treatment, with Neon planning to give a film based on The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. With that date just a few months away, we figured this would be a good time for us to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Monkey.
Story
King’s short story was first published in 1980, in the pages of the adult magazine Gallery, giving subscribers something to read amidst the pictures of nude women. The story was later revised and included in King’s 1985 short story collection Skeleton Crew.

Almost twelve years back, The Legend of Korra was released on Nickelodeon Television. It is a sequel to the beloved fantasy and action animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. Its release garnered a mixed bag of reviews and reactions.
While its predecessor was a massive hit, the sequel missed the mark in many aspects. But what it did to fans’ beloved Twinkle Toes was nothing short of treachery.

Of late, the series stands on neutral ground when it comes to its reviews. While it is a step away from its predecessor, its treatment of Aang’s character was nothing short of unsavory. It left an indelible mark in terms of its conception.

The killer AI-powered doll movie M3GAN (which gets its name from the fact that the doll is a Model 3 Generative Android) reached theatres back on January 6, 2023 – but months before the movie was even released, we were hearing that Universal Pictures was so pleased with it, sequel discussions were already underway. And less than two weeks after M3GAN made its way out into the world, Universal officially announced that we’ll be getting M3GAN 2.0 in 2025. The release date has changed a couple of times since then, moving from January 17 to May 16 to June 25, but the project has made its way through production and looks likely to stick with that June release date. In anticipation of the killer doll’s return, we have now put together a list of Everything We Know About M3GAN 2.0.

Though there may have once been plans for a follow-up to the film, Leigh Whannell seems to confirm the sequel to his underrated sci-fi action movie is no longer happening. The Australian filmmaker first rose to stardom thanks to 2004's Saw, a feature-length expansion of his and James Wan's horror short of the same name, with Whannell writing and co-starring in the film. Subsequent years saw Whannell and Wan's creative partnership continue with the first two Saw sequels, the first two Insidious movies and supernatural horror movie Dead Silence.
The past decade has seen Whannell expand his talents by stepping into the director's chair for a variety of movies, beginning with his feature debut on Insidious: Chapter 3. More recently, Whannell found widespread acclaim for his reboot of The Invisible Man, retooling and salvaging its original plans as part of Universal's scrapped Dark Universe franchise. Peacock has chosen not to continue its horror-thriller series Teacup for a second season, ending the adaptation of Robert McCammon’s book Stinger. The series started in October 2024 and had a famous cast, including Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman.
Set in rural Georgia, Teacup is about strangers coming together because of an unknown danger. The show got a 70% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes and mostly good reviews, but it didn’t do well on Nielsen’s streaming charts. Peacock usually keeps its viewing numbers secret and does not share specific details.
The series had a talented artistic team. Ian McCulloch was the writer and executive director, and E.L. Katz, who directed The Haunting of Bly Manor and Channel Zero, directed the first two episodes. Kevin Tancharoen directed the final episode. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett served as executive producers. The show was produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company.

Horror series are one of the hardest to bring to the screen in any meaningful and long-lasting way, and this has been proven again as the Ian McCulloch and James Wan produced Teacup has been canceled by Peacock after a single season. Despite gaining a lot of positive reviews and a growing dedicated fanbase, the viewing figures were apparently not up to scratch for Peacock – which was possibly telling considering the show never graced the Top 10 of the streaming charts.

Inspired by the novel Stinger written by Robert McCammon, Teacup follows a group of people trapped on a rural farm in Georgia. By the end of the first episode, a mysterious man wearing a gas mask shows up and paints a line around the farm, one that acts as a boundary trapping everyone inside. We quickly learn why. It’s been an agonizing five-year wait for Leigh Whannell’s follow-up to his near-universally acclaimed The Invisible Man.
The Elisabeth Moss-led sci-fi thriller was the last hit movie before Covid forever altered the entertainment industry and world alike, having grossed nearly $140 million against a $7 million budget. Whannell’s victory lap may have been cut short as the U.S. population retreated inside during his film’s third week of release, but between The Invisible Man and his 2018 cult gem Upgrade, the Australian native officially reinvented himself as a must-see genre specialist, shedding his long-established identity as “one of the Saw guys” and “one half of Wan/Whannell.”
As the pandemic became more and more prolonged, Whannell and his co-writer/wife Corbett Tuck decided to channel their collectively challenging experience into Wolf Man, which is now another modern reimagining of a classic Universal monster à la The Invisible Man.

Jinx is one of the most popular champions in League of Legends, and her villain origin is fleshed out beautifully in Netflix's hit series Arcane. Both League of Legends players and newcomers to the series connect to Jinx and her sympathetic struggles throughout the video game-inspired series. Jinx might be a controversial character to love considering she makes some terrible decisions, but she's also very much a victim of circumstance, which inspires sympathy.
Originally called Powder, Jinx becomes a sympathetic antagonist after she accidentally kills her loved ones and is abandoned by her sister. Conflicted and traumatized over her past, Jinx is one of the most interesting characters in Arcane's universe and has a lot of great quotes throughout the series. She says what she wants and does what she wants, but is still conflicted about many moments in her past.

The Legend of Korra introduced fans to a wonderful cast of memorable and entertaining characters who did a fine job succeeding the cast of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender. Across the span of four seasons, the main characters all got ample screen time to develop who they are and what they can do, most of all Avatar Korra herself and her friends, including Mako, Bolin, and Asami Sato. Some side characters also got their due, but many others did not.
A variety of the supporting characters didn't get nearly enough screen time to get a complete story arc, reducing many of them to a shallow archetype or a mere plot device. In other cases, some Legend of Korra characters did have a personal arc, but didn't get enough time to fully flesh it out, making their arcs feel rushed. Such characters needed more screen time and/or should have...

James Wan has been an accomplished director in the horror genre for just shy of two decades. While he's directed other films outside the horror genre, most of his horror creations have become successful franchises. He began his career by co-creating and directing the movie Saw with Leigh Whannell. Wan eventually worked up to building The Conjuring Universe, which has grossed over 2 billion dollars.
While Wan has had mega success within the horror film scene, some of his films have had mixed reviews. Not all are winners, but there are some phenomenal horror films and lore within the movies that he's made. With over nine horror films directed, some precede others in greatness.

With the first five episodes of Teacup out now on Peacock, there is excitement swirling about the new Ian McCulloch series produced by horror icon James Wan. The 8-episode miniseries starring Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman is based on the 1988 novel Stinger by Robert McCammon. This monster novel weaves together science fiction, horror, and small-town drama to great effect. While Teacup marks a tonal departure from McCulloch's writing and producing on Yellowstone, his teaming up with Wan is the kind of cross-genre collaboration horror fans didn't know they needed. With the support of Wan's production company, Atomic Monster, McCulloch's first time as showrunner is definitely delivering on gore, fulfilling the original book's mysterious, thrilling story.

Horror movies oftentimes have amazing sequels, from The Bride of Frankenstein to Evil Dead II. Some of the best horror films are a part of franchises. In terms of horror franchises, there is no shortage of those at all. Because of how prevalent horror franchises, like Halloween and Saw are, some standalone movies fall through the cracks, especially the more modern ones.
Modern standalone movies are sometimes hard to come by and even harder to make an impact. Even films that seem like they could be standalone stories are getting sequels, like Smile and It Follows. However, there are some who know when the story is finished without the need for a follow-up. The best kind of standalone horror movies are those that either wrap up the story completely or intentionally leave doors open for the purpose of ambiguity.

In The Legend of Korra, viewers encounter a series that is full of entertaining characters and narratives. However, even a diverse cast with unique circumstances isn't enough to protect Korra from well-deserved criticism; it is still not without its share of contentious storylines. Not that Atla never had poor stories, but LoK really struggles at certain points.
Despite Korra's acclaim, certain aspects of the narrative have sparked debate among fans. From Korra's romantic entanglements to the sudden and random reappearance of airbenders, The Legend of Korra's most questionable storylines continue to perplex fans. A lot of this is due to the rushed production, but that excuse can only be used so many times.

Salem's Lot (2024) writer-director Gary Dauberman reveals the original runtime for his version of the Stephen King novel adaptation. The latest remake takes a retro approach to Salem's Lot, staying faithful to King's novel. The official runtime released for Max is only one hour and 55 minutes, but according to the director, he initially had a way longer runtime.
Dauberman told Den of Geek that he had to "weed out" a lot of "great stuff" due to audiences' limited attention span. In order to focus on the "core group of heroes," he had no choice but to cut many "great side stories and B-stories." The director revealed that the original runtime for his Salem's Lot remake was "about three hours", with the first draft of the script being "180-odd pages." He initially included Ben sneaking into the Marsten House and encountering Hubert's ghost, but later took it out of the film to...

Saw franchise star Tobin Bell can still remember how the twist ending of the original film revealed his character as Jigsaw. Two decades later, Bell reflected on the ending while giving credit to co-star Leigh Whannell for making it work.
Directed by James Wan, Saw was co-written by Wan and Whannell. Additionally, Whannell played Adam, one of the movie's two leads who gets locked in a dirty bathroom with Cary Elwes' Dr. Lawrence Gordon. For this year's Beyond Fest, a 20th anniversary screening of the film was attended by Bell, Whannell, and Elwes. While speaking to fans at the event, Bell shared the initial reaction he had to the twist ending upon first reading it while insisting that it was Whannell's reaction to the big reveal that helped make the scene so iconic.

The Legend of Korra continued many worldbuilding ideas and themes from the original Avatar: The Last Airbender while also challenging and twisting those ideas in a brave new era of rapid change and fresh ideas. It wasn't just the technology that saw a rapid boom even the long-standing Avatar Cycle itself took on a new meaning in Avatar Korra's time. This change was a rough and frightening one at the time, and even Korra herself didn't like it.
Over time, though, fans found some positive ways to view the most drastic changes in the Avatar Cycle, including the fact that Korra allowed it to be properly broken. At the time, everyone was horrified to see Unavaatu directly attack Raava the light spirit and sever Korra's connection with that same spirit, but not all was lost. Raava's near-destruction may have been a tragedy, but at least Korra and Raava were fighting the good fight,...

Set to release on October 10, Peacocks new horror series Teacup has a lot of buzz surrounding it, and rightfully so. Its the first time one of author Robert McCammons novels is being adapted for television, something his fans have been clamoring for since the 1980s. Stephen King shares his praise for the upcoming horror series Teacup, comparing it to Lost and the MGM+ series From. Debuting in just a matter of weeks, the Teacup trailer previewed the James Wan-produced show that teases a terrifying mystery. Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, the Wolf Man, the Invisible Man – Universal has brought them all back to the screen in the decades since their glory days in the 1930s and ’40s. But one classic Universal monster who hasn’t had a new movie since the 1950s is the Creature from the Black Lagoon, a.k.a. the Gill Man. The closest we’ve gotten is the unofficial version of the creature that was seen in the 1987 classic The Monster Squad… but last month, it was reported that genre regular James Wan and his production company Atomic Monster are developing “a grounded modernized retelling” of Creature from the Black Lagoon that will lean into “visceral horror while paying respect to the original classic.” Now, Deadline has learned that this Creature from the Black Lagoon reboot will be written by Sean Tretta.

She may be the next incarnation of the Avatar Cycle and Aang's successor, but she is a totally different person than Aang was in the Avatar cartoon, meaning Korra gives viewers a fresh look at the Avatar Cycle (and the entire Atla universe). Korra shares some basic traits with Aang, such as accessing the Avatar State and being the world's hero, but there are key differences, too.
Avatar Korra is many things in her cartoon: a powerful bender, a guide to spirits, a folk hero, an athlete, a lover, and an international diplomat. Fans already know a few obvious things about this character, such as her stylish Water Tribe vibe and her hotheaded nature. So, when viewers delve deeper into key aspects like...

The Amazon MGM Studios production now has James Wan attached to executive produce alongside showrunner/writer/EP Peter Ocko, TheWrap has learned. They will be joined by fellow EPs Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing for Atomic Monster.

Amazon Studios plans to reimagine the “RoboCop” franchise in a new television series. The company has hired key creative talent including showrunner Peter Ocko and executive producer James Wan. They will bring the classic sci-fi story about a part-man, part-machine police officer to a TV format.
Ocko will lead the series as showrunner, head writer, and executive producer. He has extensive experience writing for shows like “The Office,” “Black Sails,” and “Lodge 49.” This gives him a strong background to handle the action and social commentary in “RoboCop.” Horror director James Wan also joins as executive producer. Known for movies like “The Conjuring,” he will help create a compelling visual style.
The show will follow the original plot of a police officer who is rebuilt as a cyborg after traumatic injuries. A technology company partners with the police department to introduce this advanced robotic law enforcement officer against rising crime.
