There have been a lot of movies and TV shows based on the works of author Stephen King, but there are also still a good number of King stories that have slipped through the cracks and never received an adaptation. For example, the short story The Monkey has been around for over forty years, but it’s only just now getting the big screen treatment, with Neon planning to give a film based on The Monkey a theatrical release on February 21, 2025. With that date just a few months away, we figured this would be a good time for us to put together a list of Everything We Know About The Monkey.

King’s short story was first published in 1980, in the pages of the adult magazine Gallery, giving subscribers something to read amidst the pictures of nude women. The story was later revised and included in King’s 1985 short story collection Skeleton Crew.

Peacock has chosen not to continue its horror-thriller series Teacup for a second season, ending the adaptation of Robert McCammon’s book Stinger. The series started in October 2024 and had a famous cast, including Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman.

Set in rural Georgia, Teacup is about strangers coming together because of an unknown danger. The show got a 70% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes and mostly good reviews, but it didn’t do well on Nielsen’s streaming charts. Peacock usually keeps its viewing numbers secret and does not share specific details.

The series had a talented artistic team. Ian McCulloch was the writer and executive director, and E.L. Katz, who directed The Haunting of Bly Manor and Channel Zero, directed the first two episodes. Kevin Tancharoen directed the final episode. Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett served as executive producers. The show was produced by James Wan’s Atomic Monster production company.

Horror series are one of the hardest to bring to the screen in any meaningful and long-lasting way, and this has been proven again as the Ian McCulloch and James Wan produced Teacup has been canceled by Peacock after a single season. Despite gaining a lot of positive reviews and a growing dedicated fanbase, the viewing figures were apparently not up to scratch for Peacock – which was possibly telling considering the show never graced the Top 10 of the streaming charts.

Premiering in October 2024, Teacup was one of two new horror shows released by the streaming service alongside Hysteria!. No word yet on the future of Hysteria!, but we now know that Teacup will end with its eight-episode run.

Inspired by the novel Stinger written by Robert McCammon, Teacup follows a group of people trapped on a rural farm in Georgia. By the end of the first episode, a mysterious man wearing a gas mask shows up and paints a line around the farm, one that acts as a boundary trapping everyone inside. We quickly learn why. It’s been an agonizing five-year wait for Leigh Whannell’s follow-up to his near-universally acclaimed The Invisible Man.

The Elisabeth Moss-led sci-fi thriller was the last hit movie before Covid forever altered the entertainment industry and world alike, having grossed nearly $140 million against a $7 million budget. Whannell’s victory lap may have been cut short as the U.S. population retreated inside during his film’s third week of release, but between The Invisible Man and his 2018 cult gem Upgrade, the Australian native officially reinvented himself as a must-see genre specialist, shedding his long-established identity as “one of the Saw guys” and “one half of Wan/Whannell.”

As the pandemic became more and more prolonged, Whannell and his co-writer/wife Corbett Tuck decided to channel their collectively challenging experience into Wolf Man, which is now another modern reimagining of a classic Universal monster à la The Invisible Man.

With the first five episodes of Teacup out now on Peacock, there is excitement swirling about the new Ian McCulloch series produced by horror icon James Wan. The 8-episode miniseries starring Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman is based on the 1988 novel Stinger by Robert McCammon. This monster novel weaves together science fiction, horror, and small-town drama to great effect. While Teacup marks a tonal departure from McCulloch's writing and producing on Yellowstone, his teaming up with Wan is the kind of cross-genre collaboration horror fans didn't know they needed. With the support of Wan's production company, Atomic Monster, McCulloch's first time as showrunner is definitely delivering on gore, fulfilling the original book's mysterious, thrilling story.

Horror movies oftentimes have amazing sequels, from The Bride of Frankenstein to Evil Dead II. Some of the best horror films are a part of franchises. In terms of horror franchises, there is no shortage of those at all. Because of how prevalent horror franchises, like Halloween and Saw are, some standalone movies fall through the cracks, especially the more modern ones.

Modern standalone movies are sometimes hard to come by and even harder to make an impact. Even films that seem like they could be standalone stories are getting sequels, like Smile and It Follows. However, there are some who know when the story is finished without the need for a follow-up. The best kind of standalone horror movies are those that either wrap up the story completely or intentionally leave doors open for the purpose of ambiguity.

In The Legend of Korra, viewers encounter a series that is full of entertaining characters and narratives. However, even a diverse cast with unique circumstances isn't enough to protect Korra from well-deserved criticism; it is still not without its share of contentious storylines. Not that Atla never had poor stories, but LoK really struggles at certain points.

Despite Korra's acclaim, certain aspects of the narrative have sparked debate among fans. From Korra's romantic entanglements to the sudden and random reappearance of airbenders, The Legend of Korra's most questionable storylines continue to perplex fans. Salem's Lot (2024) writer-director Gary Dauberman reveals the original runtime for his version of the Stephen King novel adaptation. The latest remake takes a retro approach to Salem's Lot, staying faithful to King's novel. The official runtime released for Max is only one hour and 55 minutes, but according to the director, he initially had a way longer runtime.

Dauberman told Den of Geek that he had to "weed out" a lot of "great stuff" due to audiences' limited attention span. The upcoming Peacock series, Teacup, has just received horror icon Stephen Kings seal of approval. King took to social media to give his take on the fast-approaching series.

This Halloween season, Teacup will be arriving on Peacock. So far, early reviews for the horror show have been positive, including some high praise from King on X. The series will consist of eight episodes and initially premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 22nd, 2024. Teacup will officially premiere on October 10th, 2024.

Shared on Instagram, the set photos show franchise vets Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as they reprise paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren for the last time. This comes after over a decade since Wilson and Farmiga portrayed the famous couple in the first installment, which centered around haunting experiences of the Perron family. In addition to leading the main franchise, Wilson and Farmiga have also made brief appearances in other Conjuring spinoffs, including Annabelle Comes Home and The Nun II. Set on an isolated ranch in rural Georgia, the story takes inspiration from the book Stinger, and follows a disparate group of people who must come together to face a mysterious threat. Produced in part by James Wan, Teacup recently received high praise from someone who knows a thing or two about adaptations, that being Stephen King, who compared it to a couple of other fan-favorite series, which bodes well for McCammons translation.

The project has now landed a writer, Deadline reports today.
