The Owl House ran for three seasons on Disney Channel, during which time the relationship between human teenager Luz Noceda (Sarah-Nicole Robles) and child-like demon King (Alex Hirsch) was always central. However, how a certain piece of Boiling Isles lore connects to their dynamic is never explicitly clarified in the show. The Owl House follows Luz as she stumbles into a magical otherworld and settles into the Owl House, where she trains as a witch under the tutelage of chaotic witch Eda Clawthorne (Wendie Malick).
When they all meet, Eda already has King, a somewhat mysterious creature who believes he was once the king of all demons, in her care. However, King is objectively still a kid, and he and Luz develop a best friend/sibling relationship, while Eda comes to view them as her surrogate kids. However, while Luz was largely a fully-fledged witch and King was revealed to...

The Owl House was a triumph among Disney fans new and old, drawing upon the style of previous hit animated TV shows while offering something new, with many standout episodes. The adventures of human Luz Noceda (Sarah-Nicole Robles), her witch mentor Eda the Owl Lady (Wendie Malick), and demon best friend King (Alex Hirsch) exhibit plenty of hilariously absurd humor, all the while gradually assembling a profound story of self-acceptance and standing up for what's right. Creator Dana Terrace's kooky and smart world-building shows no bounds, while the supporting cast provides the show with strong friendship and romance subplots.
The Owl House was prematurely canceled after season 3, wrapping things up with a shorter final season, which nonetheless did justice to Luz and everyone else's character arcs and the vibrant setting. This is also a TV show that makes the case for filler episodes, and the one-off adventures of The Owl House...

Luz's witchy adventure in the Boiling aisles came to an end in The Owl House Season 3. Despite a satisfying series finale that reunited the core characters of Luz, Eda, and King, fans have wanted more and have been persistent with their demands. However, it was pretty much clear that Disney was done with the series from the moment it was announced that the third and final season would feature a painfully short 3 episodes, compared to the 40 episodes that made up Seasons 1 and 2. Regardless, fans did not relent in pushing their luck, pressing home their demands. As such, this latest update from series creator, Dana Terrace, will be a hard pill for fans to swallow.

To the outside observer it may seem like every single year is called “one of the best years for horror ever,” but I’m going to let you in on a little secret: It’s never a bad year for horror. The entertainment industry damn near runs on scary movies, which are cheap to produce and able to take artistic risks that bigger budget genre films — the ones that have to sell tickets to everybody just to break in — are too timid to even consider. You can always find great horror movies. The trick is knowing where to look.
And that right there is the trick, because smaller movies don’t have huge advertising budgets, and they don’t drive traffic so publications can’t always allocate the resources to cover them. Great horror movies fall through the cracks all the time. Heck, even major theatrical releases don’t get...

The following contains major spoilers from Snowpiercer Season 4, Episode 8, "By Weeping Cross," which debuted Sunday, Sept. 8 on AMC.
Snowpiercer Season 4 grinds to a frustrating halt with Episode 8, "By Weeping Cross," which is more about planning for things to happen than anything actually happening. The AMC series wastes most of the excitement it generated with Melanie Cavill's return by devoting a whole hour to preparations for the war between New Eden and Nima Rousseau's army. Presumably that's because the writers want to deliver a bang-up series finale worthy of the possible end of the world, but it doesn't stop this episode from being slow.
"By Weeping Cross" quickly resolves the cliffhangers from Episode 7, with the exception of anything having to do with Melanie. Instead, it splits its narrative between Nima and an unknowing Alex Cavill bringing Snowpiercer toward New Eden, while the citizens brace themselves for their last stand against the soldiers.

Following the box office success of Immaculate and especially Longlegs, Neon is back on the big screen with their latest horror offering Cuckoo, which has been earing rave reviews from critics and horror fans alike. It’s undoubtedly a far less mainstream horror movie than Longlegs, however, and it was only released in 1,503 theaters nationwide over the weekend.
How did Cuckoo fare in its opening weekend at the box office? It’s no Longlegs but Neon is surely smiling at the indie horror movie’s $3,012,500 opening weekend this morning. Interesting to note, Cuckoo is currently sitting in the #9 spot on the domestic box office charts, with Longlegs making another $2 million over the weekend and finding itself in the #10 spot.
Cuckoo is the latest horror movie from writer/director Tilman Singer (Luz). The film’s reported production budget was a mere $7 million. Hunter Schafer (“Euphoria”) stars.

Luz is a unique treat for fans of possession horror films, with a minimalistic approach to storytelling and a focus on visuals and audio for terror. Director Tilman Singer's debut film is an abstract experience, blurring reality with demonic possession in a tense and unnerving narrative. Comparing Luz and Cuckoo, both explore themes of authority and rebellion through female protagonists, with a focus on psychological horror and experimental visuals.
With Cuckoo currently terrorizing audiences in theaters with its reality-bending approach to horror, many will approach the movie as their first experience with German filmmaker Tilman Singer. However, Singer has seen moderate success and earned a slight cult following for his debut film Luz, a brooding tale of demonic possession told around the integration of a young woman suspected of murder.

Deep in the forests of Germany, there is a resort, a quaint getaway nestled right at the bottom of the Bavarian Alps. Step out of your car, and you immediately feel like you’re stepping into a postcard; you half expect men in lederhosen, hoisting large steins of Pilsner, to greet you as walk toward the lobby. It’s so picturesque that you might not notice the strange noise emanating from within the woods right next to the guest houses. It’s faint, but very shrill. Something feels weird about that sound,...

Hey, sometimes you learn a thing or two at the movies. Cuckoo is a fitting title for the new, unapologetically outrageous horror thriller from Neon out this week, and let's not forget it's also the name of a particularly intriguing bird species one that carries a unique way of living that draws a pertinent parallel to the central plot at hand in this wild new feature film from German director Tilman Singer (Luz). Starring Hunter Schafer (Euphoria) and Dan Stevens (Legion), Cuckoo brings us overseas to Europe for a unique, secluded experience that studies the sometimes controversial sacrifices people make for the sake of starting a beautiful family of their own.

Two years have gone by since we heard that production had wrapped on Cuckoo, a new horror film from writer/director Tilman Singer that stars Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), Marton Csókás (Freelance), Greta Fernández (Santo), and Jan Bluthardt (Tatort). Now our chance to see the film is upon us, as it has reached theatres today, August 9th. JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols gave Cuckoo an 8/10 review you can read at This Link, we have interviews with the lead actors Here, and earlier this week we shared a clip that gave Schafer’s character a terrifying biking experience. A press release noted that Dan Stevens turns in a “brilliant and terrifying” performance in the film, and he has described his role as a “delicious antagonist role.” In the new clip embedded above, we get a 90 second sample of Stevens’ performance, and it is quite creepy.

Tilman Singer's "Luz" challenges classic possession narratives. Among recent films like "Evil Dead Rise" and "Immaculate," Luz interrogates the intersection of authority and rebellion in the possession subgenre. The film features a parasitic being that spreads itself among hosts.
Tilman Singer is poised to become a horror household name with his hotly anticipated sophomore film Cuckoo. Early reviews are raving about the movie, whose bizarre trailers have moviegoers wondering what it could have in store for them. There could be some clues in Singer's first film Luz, which just landed on Shudder. This edgy, experimental possession tale is guaranteed to blow viewers' minds, and it is finally emerging from the shadows at the perfect time to join the ranks of recent demonic delights.
2018's Luz put a fresh spin on an old subgenre, featuring queer teen girls who summon a spirit that stalks them into adulthood. Tilman's provocative take...

Cuckoo filmmaker Tilman Singer knows what he wants. That confidence was apparent when his film school thesis project, Luz, received distribution in 2018, kicking off the German writer-director’s promising future. The 70-minute supernatural horror film was made with the most modest of resources, but Singer’s talent was so evident that you couldn’t help but imagine what he’d be able to do with a healthy budget. It may have taken six years, but the answer is now here in the form of Cuckoo, which may or may not be connected to Luz. Hunter Schafer’s main character in Singer’s genre-bending horror film is named Gretchen Vanderkurt, while Luz’s Julia Riedler played a character named Nora Vanderkurt.
As of this moment, Singer is choosing to remain tight-lipped about the potential relationship between his first two features.
“I don’t want to answer that too concretely, but it’s a good last name.

Typical. You wait years for a movie about a teenage American nun who becomes mysteriously pregnant when she travels to an Italian nunnery and then two come along at once. When Disney Channel’s The Owl House first blasted into the Demon Realm in 2020, the animated series provided a delightful escape from reality for kid and adult viewers alike. Although the show ran for just three seasons, it amassed a fiercely loyal fanbase and garnered widespread acclaim for its blend of humor, horror, and heartfelt storytelling.
Created by Dana Terrace, the series centered on Luz Noceda (Sarah-Nicole Robles), a 14-year-old Dominican-American girl who finds a portal that leads to Boiling Isles, a magical realm in another dimension. Luz decides to stay and pursue her dream of becoming a witch, attending Hexside Academy and befriending a host of eccentric characters like her mentor Eda (Wendie Malick), skull-headed titan King (Alex Hirsch), and quirky house demon Hooty (also Hirsch).

Nearly two years have gone by since we heard that production had wrapped on Cuckoo, a new horror film from writer/director Tilman Singer that stars Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Dan Stevens (The Guest), Jessica Henwick (Love and Monsters), Marton Csókás (Freelance), Greta Fernández (Santo), and Jan Bluthardt (Tatort) – but we’re finally going to have the chance to see it very soon, as Neon will be giving Cuckoo a theatrical release on May 3rd. The film has been shrouded in secrecy this whole time, but during a new interview with Variety Schafer has revealed some new details… like the fact that Cuckoo sees her getting covered in blood and facing off with a bird-like monster!
First, here’s a refresher on the official synopsis: Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family.

The marketing thus far behind upcoming horror movie Cuckoo, from Neon and director Tilman Singer (Luz), has been refreshingly enigmatic so far, giving only the barest hints of its plot. New plot details have emerged in a recent Variety interview with star Hunter Schafer (“Euphoria”), and they sound absolutely bonkers.
Cuckoo is coming to theaters on May 3, 2024.

Over the years, the LGBTQ+ community has made significant strides in advocating for acceptance and understanding, challenging norms and promoting inclusivity.
Among the various identities within this community, pansexuality has gained increasing visibility, with celebrities leading the way in breaking down barriers and normalizing love beyond gender boundaries.
Pansexuality refers to an individual’s capacity to be attracted to others regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
We’re taking a look at some stars who have proudly come out as pansexual over the years…

“To me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board. And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place. I took pan to mean that not only can I be attracted to any of these people or types physically,...

Major stage and musical performers showed for Joe Biden’s reelection campaign Monday, with a Broadway for Biden fundraiser in which the president quipped about his age but also put the campaign in stark terms.
“I’m running because democracy is at stake, because [in] 2024 democracy is on the ballot once again,” Biden said at the event at New York’s Lunt-Fontanne Theater, per a pool report. “And let there be no question: Donald Trump and his Maga Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy. And I will always defend, protect and fight for our democracy.”
Biden also chided Trump for his refusal to criticize Vladimir Putin. “I will not side with dictators like Putin,” Biden said.
The event was announced last month, with appearances by Josh Groban, Ben Platt, Sara Bareilles, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr and Laura Benanti. Tickets were priced from $250 for rear mezzanine seats to $7,500 for orchestra center front.

A thick air of melancholy drifts through the start of Esmeralda Santiago's new novel, "Las Madres." The narrator notes that after protagonist Luz Peña Fuentes left her native Puerto Rico as a teenager, the accent mark over the ñ in Peña was left out in English. Without the tilde, her last name took on a different definition: Pena Fuentes can mean "Sorrow Fountains," or "Penalty Fountains" - even "Pity Fountains" or "Shame Fountains."
"Crossing an ocean made me sadder," Luz recalls to her daughter, Marysol Ríos Peña, decades later.
Marysol reminds her 57-year-old mother that Luz is who she believes she is, no matter what. "Your name and identity are different things," she adds.
Luz accepts this as truth and types her daughter's words into the Notes app on her phone. She wants to keep a record of their dialogue. Some memories can be fleeting, yes. But in Luz's case,...

As one of the most unique and beloved warriors of the Force from a galaxy far, far away, Ahsoka Tano has always been a highly unconventional Jedi, just like her former Master and mentor, Anakin Skywalker. And just like Anakin, Ahsoka was no stranger to romance. The Jedi Order demanded that all its members shall not know anger, hatred, nor love, as it could lead to the Dark Side. Yet despite the Jedi oath of detachment, Ahsoka never swore off love herself.
Ahsoka actually experienced and gave in to all those emotions. Anger when the Jedi Council hunted her down and imprisoned her when she was framed for a crime she didn't commit in The Clone Wars, hatred when she tried killing Darth Vader to avenge Anakin in Rebels and love a couple of times in her life. Not just a deep bond with her Master Anakin, but a romantic love.

The Owl House was an animated series that ran from 2020-2023, and while the fantasy world and great story was a draw, the characters are what made it so popular. From the happy-go-lucky lead protagonist Luz Noceda (Sarah Nicole-Robles) to her shifty but loyal mentor Eda Clawthorne (Wendie Malick), these characters fill out the magical world of Demonland, and Hooty, who is The Owl House himself.
The series first premiered on Disney+ and included two full-length seasons and a final third season that consists of three specials. The Owl House characters have been widely praised for their depictions of LGBTQ+ characters, as well as the humor that is appropriate for all ages. The series is one of the few animated shows made for all-age audiences that features queer characters and relationships and includes rare examples of transgender and asexual animated characters. Romance is a key aspect of most series, but up until recently, LGBTQ+ couples didn't often feature in TV shows. However, in recent years, queer couples have become more and more common, with great writing that portrays relatable and interesting relationships from this community.
From Carol and Susan in Friends, a relationship that slowly and steadily normalized the LGBTQ+ community in television, to more modern couples like David and Patrick in Schitt's Creek, fortunately, there are some great portrayals of queer couples in television. Hopefully, this will become more frequent as the years go by.

In 2020, Dana Terrace's The Owl House premiered on Disney+, and it became one of the best animated TV shows. The series follows 14-year-old Luz Noceda, who accidentally stumbles into the Demon Realm instead of going to a Reality Check summer camp. While there, she befriends Eda The Owl Lady and King. Luz decides to live with them in the titular Owl House to study magic, and antics quickly ensue.
The Owl House is very much a dramedy-horror tale, and it boasts plenty of expertly-written jokes, good dialogue, interesting character arcs, and high stakes to keep viewers of all ages interested. These elements are often channeled through great quotes and hilarious one-liners. Even though The Owl House released the series finale on April 2023, fans of the show love to remember some of its most iconic quotes.

The episode of Best Horror Movie You Never Saw covering The Nest was Written and Edited by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Kier Gomes, Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
While the early to mid-part of the ’80s was the time of the slasher, the later part of the decade decided to try a lot of new things. Luz Elena Mendoza Ramos of the alt-rock outfit Y La Bamba starts out talking about rain. “I feel like I’ve been going through my Saturn return for ten years,” they confide early in our conversation. “I’m in the eye of the storm.”
In some ways, it’s the perfect place to begin: Storms and rains are central to Lucha, Y La Bamba’s sumptuous seventh album. The disarmingly gentle opening track “Eight” invokes light summer showers. Shortly thereafter, “La Lluvi de Guadalajara” plays out like an interlude with ambient rainfall in the background.

Dana Terrace’s beloved Disney series The Owl House ended in April, flying off into the sunset with Luz, Eda, and King coming together to save the day. The show has become a beacon for Lgbtqia+ creators making a show that centers around queer and neurodivergence stories. Season 3 took a shorter turn than most hoped (just three episodes for Season 3?) but Terrace and her crew have worked within the confines of Disney’s “notes” before and still followed the Titan to conclude Luz’s journey.

The finale of The Owl House season 3 is set to release on April 8, meaning that the show must end every important storyline if not every storyline, it has been building up to. While this may be particularly challenging given the compressed nature of season 3, it’s still more than possible for the show to have a strong landing for its final episode. Admittedly, this means that The Owl House will likely have to prioritize its most important plot lines, following through on the most imperative threads and those that have been building for several years. Hopefully, the ones chosen will be able to give the series a memorable exit.
Throughout its three seasons, The Owl House tells the story of Luz Noceda (Sarah-Nicole Robles), a human girl who found her way to the Demon Realm and made her home on the Boiling Isles. She fell under the tutelage of Eda...
