Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe has lassoed another offshoot — The Madison — into development.

The show won’t follow the Dutton family as Season 5B of the flagship series awaits its premiere and farewell of sorts to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and other characters, though Costner will not return. Deadline exclusively confirmed an offshoot of Yellowstone with Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser.

What is The Madison about?

The Madison will follow the McIntosh family, a New York City family living in the Madison River valley of central Montana.

Who will be in The Madison?

Kevin Zegers is the latest addition to the next installment in the Yellowstone universe. He will play Cade, new neighbor of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Stacy Clyburn. Cade is responsible for looking after their property until they arrive.

Fans of ‘Yellowstone’ will officially be saying their goodbyes to the show with the second part of season 5. While there were reports a season 6 was being discussed, the talks seem to have been dropped in favor of the modern-day spinoff ‘The Madison.’

Before ‘The Madison,’ reports had stated that series creator Taylor Sheridan was working on a new script, which will be led by Matthew McConaughey. Sadly, this seems not to be the case anymore and I’m yet to fully come to terms with that.

Happily, we’ve been promised a lot of great things when it comes to ‘The Madison,’ so much so we can’t help but wait patiently for it to drop.

Patrick J. Adams is undoubtedly most known for playing Mike Ross in Suits, but the Yellowstone spinoff The Madison could surpass the actor's previous gig as his new character will do something viewers never got to see Mike do. Adams starred as Mike in the USA Network legal drama for seven seasons before leaving after the season 7 finale. The actor returned to reprise his role in a handful of episodes in season 9, the final season, in 2019. Since then, Adams has had a few supporting roles, but The Madison feels like his big return to TV.

Suits experienced a resurgence in 2023 after being added to Netflix, and its success resulted in NBCUniversal ordering a spinoff, Suits: LA, starring Stephen Amell. Original Suits cast members aren't expected to appear but never say never.

Prior to the first episode of Suits, Adams' Mike aspired to be a lawyer but was expelled from college.

The Yellowstone universe is expanding with a spinoff starring Michelle Pfeiffer (The Madison), an upcoming TV show that will be a breath of fresh air in the franchise. Taylor Sheridan launched this neo-Western universe when he co-created the original series with John Linson in 2018. Ever since its premiere, Yellowstone's popularity has been continually rising. As a result, Paramount has ordered various spinoffs that will keep the franchise alive long after the parent show ends (which might not be as soon as previously thought because reports claim that Yellowstone season 6 is in the works without Kevin Costner).

The Madison will reportedly start filming in late August 2024 in New York, Texas, and Montana.

As of the writing of this article, two Yellowstone spinoffs have aired 1883 and 1923 while three are reportedly on the way. However, there has been a pattern with the already-aired spinoffs that The Madison is set to break when it debuts.

Yellowstone fans are still in flux regarding the fate of the show. The massive Paramount TV hit has had some major upheaval with star Kevin Costner departing after problems with creator Taylor Sheridan. This has led to the upcoming second half of Season 5 being the last for the show.

There had been plans for a continuation with most of the cast and Matthew McConaughey as the new star, but that's still up in the air. However, the network is going ahead with The Madison, a new drama set in the same universe as Yellowstone. 

The show focuses on "a heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana." It sounds like a classic cultural clash between the posh New Yorkers and the residents of the state.

Paramount has now cast Suits star Patrick J. Adams, as well as Elle Chapman and Beau Garrett, in the Yellowstone spinoff, The Madison. It’s officially official: Confirming TVLine’s exclusive scoop from earlier this month, Paramount announced Tuesday that Suits vet Patrick J. Adams and Good Doctor alum Beau Garrett are joining the previously cast Michelle Pfeiffer in the forthcoming Yellowstone sequel series The Madison. Originally titled 2024, the offshoot had been eyed for Paramount Network, but it’s unclear if that is still the plan.
